There are so many really good pens out there. As you were demoing it, my thoughts were that the bladder fill, for me isn’t a “value add”. It seems a bit cumbersome and I doubt you could get it to hold much more than a standard international converter. I thought to myself, this is probably a $60-70 USD pen. I was a bit shocked to see it selling for $180USD. I suppose I’d like to try writing with it and see how well it writes, but given the amount of competition at that $150-$200 price point, I’d want a bit more wow. As usual, thanks for the great review.
I like the color of the pen and the peach ink. It made my day and coincidentally, I was working on heatmaps at work and used warm tones to distinguish different values!
As far as sac-based filling systems go, this has always been my favourite. Just the fact that nothing is directly touching the sac always made me feel a bit more comfortable compared to lever fillers and the like.
Hey DB!: First you showed this pen I was thinking "Petrified Forest!" Filling system is not too unlike the old Sheaffer Touchdown system. I didn't think I would like large pens until I got my Conklin All-American! Nice and chunky! I too got a matching ink for that pen, Diamine Pumpkin. Also have Diamine Blaze Orange as a backup! COOL!
Thank you for the review. Found Magna Carta a few months ago and got the Mag 800 with a #8 broad nib. The colors are stunning , prices are reasonable, and I like the oversized pens. They have a denim series I’d like to see reviewed. This this is my first pen from India.
I bought my Denima direct from Magna Carta. Price was ok and shipping was very fast. However, the nib slit was cut very off center. Reply from MC was buy another nib. Disappointing. I like their pens but with customer service like that, I’ll never buy another of their products.
Thanks for the great review. When this video was initially released I purchased the pen and ink that weekend. Nice writer but I've seen some discoloration of the material and am disappointed in the color change. Couldn't get Appleboom or Magna Carta to talk to me about it. So I've not purchased a Magna Carta's new flex 600. Saved some money.
i have several magna carta pens, and i find the finish, feel and flow terrific, not to mention good looks, that incorporate a balance between vintage and modern FPs, particularly for folks who like large pens. some of my magnas have schmidt nibs/converters on em and some, magna carta nibs. they have a very unique 'denima' pen, and some wooden ones that i love using. solid value for money, and the owner of the company, mr.hardik is a humble, forthcoming, cool individual. been buying pens from them since 4 years and its truly been a pleasure. arun kumar, bangalore
1. Thanks for the show; it's always interesting to see new stuff. 2. What do you think of the filling mechanism? Is it a gimmick/curiosity or has it some advantage?
Sac pens usually have more capacity than a converter, and the pneumatic system is usually more efficient than a lever/button at using the whole sac... tho not by much in Doodlebud's test here. Plus, no ink window.
No gimmick, its just a vintage filling system adapted to a modern made pen. I find its fun to use and its suits the pen well. I have endless converter pens (which all work fine), but its nice for something different and they did a decent job 👍
This is more a Chilton filler like the modern Wahl-Eversharp Decoband. Very similar, but the Touchdown has a hole in the side of the metal tube, so you don't need to have your finger plug the hole to draw up ink.
@@Calcprof Sheaffer made the most common version of that type of filler. And it's nothing like the basic vac filler Pineider is trying to call a Touchdown. 😁
Yes, this is how the Shaeffer Touchdown/Snorkel works. My snorkel is a fine pen, but the filling mechanism is just too much for not enough ink. If there were a way to convert it, I would.
Ooh 😍, that Omas 360 🔥❤ Do you know how long sacs like that will last, and is it something easily replaced, please? Can't wait to see what other goodies Appelboom sent you for review!👀 😱Messy messy with the Dutch Peach, there😉. Thank goodness the cap was on the second time around! 😰
I love regalia paper but I have found it seems to have a limit to how wet a pen can be before it feathers in kind of a weird way. My Santini Giant with a flexible cursive italic (it was inked with Pelikan Moonstone) had the weirdest reaction. It was feathering and pooled in a weird way. It’s hard to explain. I got the Magna Carta pen in their arco like material and it’s nice. I just with it used the section as an end stop to make it line up better.
Hey DB, what do you thunk of Itoya Profolio Oasis notebooks? I just got some and was really happy with them. Im looking to get some Muji to comepare but I am really happy with them so far. Even handled single point calligraphy better than Rhodia, so I'm pretty happy about that!
Hey you got a couple of stains on your fingers there. :) Like the color, love the ebonite feed. Filling system is unique. I have a pen with a compressor filling system. It's different I'll give it that.
Will you be reviewing the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande 2.0 Primary Manipulation? There is a Leonardo Momento Magico in Pink Salt, that also has a very similar resin. It is offered by Limited Pens Korea. Whoa, that filling system is not for me. Why would a pen company use a system that's so inefficient?
If one gets sent my way I'll be sure to review it. I have no issues with the filling system. Yes they can just do a cart/conv system but its fun to try other stuff. Works just fine and it gives character to the pen.
Thanks for sharing. Yeah it just needs a slight change to how the chamfer is done at the start of the thread and then its all good. Super comfy pen and the filling system makes it a little more fun
Looks like it's time to get out the jewelers headband magnifier and square off that first thread with a Swiss needle file. Otherwise it looks like a very attractive pen and I like the simplicity of the Chilton pneumatic filler.
Something is wrong with it for sure. Did you ever try to contact the people you bought it from? That would be the first thing I'd do. Sounds like an issue with regulating the air ink exchange. Might be as simple as ensuring the feed & nib is properly fit in the pen.

The regalia paper is my favorite now, I never got the hype of Tomoe River, the regalia does exactly what I want it to do and feels perfect to me. It feels like rhodia on steroids to me.
I just got my first pack to Tomoe and will be doing a video on it. Haven't opened it yet, I'll save that for the video. I want to see what all the fuss is about
@@Doodlebud I would also suggest trying out Cosmo Air as well. I feel like it shows shading the best, and Tomoe River shows sheening the best. It also feels very different to write on compared to the TR

Very similar filling to a Shaeffer Legacy.
I am guessing the air seal is not as good as on a Sheaffer Touchdown pen, so I wager pushing the plunger faster will get a better fill.
