- The “shot” is to cinema what the “sentence” is to literature or the “scene” is to theater.
Thank You to @screenwritinginla for originally posting a version of this clip from a @sthlmfilmfest interview with @ethan_riedlinger
The shot you're using to promote Megalopolis is a fantastic sentence-a great use of cinematic language: how the wide lens reinforces the shapes of our characters, making of Adam an imposing figure who's ignoring, giving his back to Nathalie's character, while focusing on an object of, I suppose, his own creation. The city is wrapping them: it's bigger than them, almost makes it the true protagonist of the picture.
That shot tells a story of its own. Thanks for bringing great cinematic language back, Francis.
Thank you Francis for posting this. No matter what you make, never stop being fearless.
I feel lucky to be living in the same time as him
A very important concept, thanks for posting this!
It’s a simple concept, but one that we give too much for granted
Such an excellent quote, and I can't tell you how much joy it brings me to see you posting on here regularly Mr. Coppola. So glad Megalopolis just got North American distribution, cannot wait to watch it on a giant screen ☺
I'm french and France will also have the film be released (in autumn) !!! :)
Needed this.
In this era of over stimulation going back to the basis is vital.
your films have often been close to perfection.
I think "The Godfather", "The Godfather part II", "The Conversation", "Apocalypse Now", or "One from the heart" ARE perfection :)
Gracias maestro!!
Very inspiring sir
Show don't tell. That's what Hollywood is missing now.
Brazil Here 🇧🇷
Watch Apocalypse Now and you'll understand the critical importance of "the shot." It is a magnificent example of what you described.
i don't believe you
I heard that your nickname used to be The Scientist. Am I right?
