Hello my friends. This is Patricia I met Linda and Jason (son) in TN. Our RV lot that we own in Punta Gorda Florida is a Airstream and Class A only 55+ gated community. We have lots of Airstreams People who love their Airstreams. One major problem we fine is the inside height. My husband is 6’4 and I’m 5’10”. Airstreams are made for short people under 5’9”. We could not fit in the showers without ducking our head. We felt very claustrophobic inside. Our park has a gutted airstream by our golf course that we use to serve food for tournaments. The new ones are very cute and adorable. I’m sure it will be a fun project. But 3 of you appear to be tall. Try out the shower and bathroom. And really focus on all 4 of you eating dinner and living in there. We have 45 ft Allegro Bus and we are “Most Timers”. We would not like to give up our space. But maybe a quick trip to Mexico or weekend thing the airstream would be accommodating. Good luck at the Airstream factory.
Hey Patricia So great to hear from you! That is such great wisdom! It would be tight for sure on the head space! We would not fulltime in it only the kids would at some point and we would all be in it for short trips etc. Hope we get to see you guys while we are in Florida. Will you guys be at the Tampa RV show?
@@TheShinpaughs hello we will be on a cruise during the Tampa show. We go to the Tampa Show every year but this time we will miss it. I will reach out to you when we are back in Punta Gorda Jan 1st. We can meet you for lunch or dinner in Ft Myers
I have owned a vintage Airstream. Before I tackled a resto-mod I would tour the Airstream factory in Jackson Center Ohio. They are a very different animal from other RVs.
In the past we have restored vintage trailers. But not a complete redo as that needs. It is a wonderful find. As you know by your experince this will be somewhat expensive to restore.
@TheShinpaughs WE sold a 30ft airstream perfect condition original for 5,000.00. Just a tip you didn't ask for. Check the floor in the very back underneath the trailer.
I have only watched you for the past several weeks, but you seem pretty happy in your current Prevost set-up, so would you really want to take on something that is an unknown? Unless your Prevost is a lemon, I don't think I would do it. I haven't seen an overwhelming excitement in the comments for the Airstream.
Thanks for the feedback. We are thrilled with out Prevost. This would be in addition to it for the kids to have some of their own space as they get older. They still want to travel with us:)
I can see it with bunks and perhaps a murphy bed for mom and dad and stays up when they aren't along . 31 ft is a good size even for 4 if you don't take all the large items that you use for full time . One good size bathroom and kitchen with good storage . Maybe 4 lazy boy type chairs instead of a long couch . I am excited to see what you choose !
Love that idea. We would do it mostly for the kids to have a place to stay as we continue to travel. But we would for sure have to have a place for Linda and I so we could take simple trips out and about.
this is awesome we have a Prevost and an Airstream... one is for glamping and one is for camping, we can take our airstream to place we can't go in the Marathon, such a blast!
@@TheShinpaughs the Marathon is used most by far but the Airstream allows us to have a different experience, a lot more state parks and more off the beaten path... but we enjoy them both, having the flexibility to do both is great
You won't save money building one out but the nice thing is you can design it to suit your needs and your family is knowledgeable about this sort of thing.
I can see you all turning it into something beautiful! I know it would be a great project and I have full confidence that you all would love turning it into something beautiful! This is my opinion for what it’s worth.😍
I wouldn't pay over $3,000 for it.. but I'm a DIY kind of person and my son does Custom Auto Interiors so I think he would be a good match with me.. so personally I would go for it❤❤❤❤😊😊
Thank you for the encouragement. One of the biggest problems is I am not a DIY guy. We would have to pay for everything to be done in order for it to be completed!
@@TheShinpaughs there are a lot of good capable people out there.. as long as they don't rob you blind for their services I think it would be a cool project I still say go for it.. I will be watching to see what you guys choose to do good luck
Additional comment. It may be just me, but unless someone is looking for a blank slate I’d rather buy an RV that’s still complete and not gutted. Maybe I liked the originality, or wanted to keep the original floor plan. Personally, I’d pay more money for a complete original than I would for an empty shell regardless of brand or class of RV. Just my opinion.
Buy him an old bus and convert it instead. The cool factor of an airstream wears off pretty quick when you start to realize how much cubic space you loose with them.
It would for sure be a big project. We are always looking for cool things to do as a family. This would for sure be cool but we are just not 100% sure we want to take it on. We are still discussing as a family!
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure? If you had a big garage or barn with tons of tools and the knowledge to use them then maybe. You could end up investing more money into this shell than if you bought a finished one from someone who needed to sell theirs quickly. Here is a good TH-cam video on why no one is refurbishing old Airstreams. th-cam.com/video/v2906lq_BNo/w-d-xo.html
This is a huge venture. I would recommend not doing it. But, if you are rich and looking for a project then go for it. This will cost you some serious money and time to complete.
I enjoy your channel!! One of the better channels on YT. I will share your channel as much as possible.
Thank you for the kind words, we really appreciate it!
Airstream trailers are so cool! Get it!!!
I agree they are so cool.

That is our plan. We are still discussing if this meets our families goals or if its to big of a project.
Exciting for you all! I will be watching x
Stay tuned. If we decide to do it we will be sharing every step in the project!
In the past we have restored vintage trailers. But not a complete redo as that needs. It is a wonderful find. As you know by your experince this will be somewhat expensive to restore.
That is cool. Do you currently have an RV? As we do more homework we realize it could be very costly if we are not careful.

Thank you. We will take all the help we can get. I saw where they pull the body off the frame and have the frame redone. Quite a project for sure.

What is the bus in the shop for 2 weeks for? Is it regular maintenance or a problem to be fixed?
Just some routine maintenance and a few small things we needed the converter to take care of. We will be heading to Florida soon:)
Love and greets from Germany! So interesting to follow you! See you next year!
Welcome! Hope you enjoy our channel!

There is a place in North Carolina that refurbishes them. Even checks for leaks and the seams.
Thanks for the heads up. I have found several around the country that does that. The only limit is your checkbook:)
I would be nervous taking an airstream to Mexico as well. I wouldn't take mine there. I would love to see you guys build out that airstream
Thank you!!! I am not to afraid to take a rv down there. Just a bit leery to take our Prevost. It is on our list of places we really want to go!
You won't save money building one out but the nice thing is you can design it to suit your needs and your family is knowledgeable about this sort of thing.
We are figuring that our very quickly! We feel like it would need to be a love project not a business venture:)
I can see you all turning it into something beautiful! I know it would be a great project and I have full confidence that you all would love turning it into something beautiful! This is my opinion for what it’s worth.😍
Thank you❤️ If we decide to go down that path it will have our fingerprints all over it:)
What a fun family project.
It certainly could be. We are still discussing the opportunity.
I think there’s a place in Heber City, Utah that rehabs them!
I am familiar with that place. We love Heber City! We stay at Mt Valley RV Resort when we go there.
Like to see what you do on that trailer
I have a bigger vision than our budget if we decide to do it:)
We are looking for a Silver Eagle bus to restore if not done yet
Those are amazing!!! I have only seen a few around. What a classic motorhome. Good luck in your search!!!
This is so awesome!

We appreciate the feedback! We had no choice because we needed the bunks for our family. There are lots of great coaches out there for sure.
Well.... I would say, there must be an easier way to get what you want!
I tend to agree, but it is fun to think about the clean slate to build what we want.
Only if the roof can be raised at least 12 inches for you tall people. Good luck!
There is not a ton of head room for sure:)
Love you guys.enjoy you let us come along. Big job to takedown. God Bless
Thank you!!!! We are still in family discussion if we want to take it on our not.
To crazy for me 😱
It is a big project for sure!

They have a goal to have a Prevost to travel with us as they get older. But we were thinking this could be in an intro to that arena. We shall see:)
I love the one that you have now that one seems to be an awful lot of work and it's really not for all of you maybe just for two of you
It would for sure be a big project. We are always looking for cool things to do as a family. This would for sure be cool but we are just not 100% sure we want to take it on. We are still discussing as a family!

Great thoughts. We are realizing it could be a way more costly project than we first thought. We are also not able to do the work by ourselves!

It definitely wouldn’t be an easy project! Thanks for thefeedback.
