The Unexpected Path: Practicing The Way | October 20, 2024: Community Offers Unity

Have you ever walked an unknown path and something unexpected happened? Beyond Jesus commanding the disciples to love God, love yourself and love others, Jesus commands them to go and make disciples. What does it mean to make a disciple? One of the ways to think about “making disciples” is knowing what Jesus taught and how he modeled discipleship with his practices, patterns, and philosophies that draw us closer to God while connecting with our neighbors. Matthew 28:20 gives us some clear instructions, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Discipleship takes practice! In a way, Jesus is offering his last will and testament. Jesus’ desire or command to his disciples was to be aligned with the Holy Spirit as a way to lead them into places where the culture was eroding and transformation was needed. By offering Christ to a battered and broken world, our salvation is revealed along the discipleship path.
Discipleship is a disciplined daily path of faith, righteousness, holiness and insight and hearing God’s invitation/call that leads to sharing our stories and life with others. In this sharing, our faith is strengthened and freedom is offered so that the kingdom of God is revealed! We are becoming disciples of Jesus Christ and for many it will be as third testaments to the world!
