I wish I can dance with you guys, but I don't live in CA =( Where I live, it's a SMALL Cambodian community. Not a lot of kids here want to dance. It's only me and my cousin and we learn by videos. We don't have anyone to teach us.

Christine Courtney I learn a lot by watching the videos haha. I learned a lot when I went to the Royal Ballet performance too. It motivated me to work harder. I told Poh Ok that I hope to stop by some time next year to learn a little bit from an actual teacher face to face lol.

Christine Courtney Most definitely. I had someone who was a dancer teach me some basic stuff like how to stretch and move my body, but she couldn't teach because she's really busy with work so I took what she taught me and other things I learned through TH-cam and progressed from there. I really want to learn the Apsara, but I don't have a 3rd person. It's just me and my cousin that dances. I try to get others to dance, but they're just never interested or motivated like we are. Sadly, a lot of the elders here aren't as supportive either. The guy at the temple asked for donations to get us crowns, but nobody pitched in. They basically see us as entertainment and not the fact that we're preserving something so dear to our culture. Since there's only two people dancing, we have to tweak some dances like Chun Por. We're both the "middle" girl lol. We just had a lady cut us long sleeve tops and the white tops with the gold trimmings. We borrow a lot of the outfits from the temple as well from a lady who originally bought it for girls to wear for ceremonies, but since girls stopped showing up, I basically took some for us to perform in. We work with what we have and we make the best of it. Hopefully we can grow bigger and expand our costumes. I really want to learn a dance drama too! I better end this before it turns into an essay haha. I hope to meet you guys soon and learn more! Keep in touch. I love learning from fellow dancers! =)

ThatxStaphyy my tip for you is to just keep learning . but Kore importantly is to learn how to just sit aside and watch and listen carefully. I have a very sharp eye so I see every little error even if I don't know something. Every little detail counts. Khmer dancing isn't easy. I'm not the best at it but I learn more each practice.
