Back in 1990, a band I was in played with Poison Idea at a VFW somewhere outside of Harrisburg, Pa. As far as we could tell, Poison Idea were drinking and drugging from the moment they entered the building. It was one of those marathon type shows with at least 6 bands and by the time they went on I thought to myself, "no way are they going to be able to play". They loaded a ton of beer on stage with their gear; Pig had a 40oz and a case of Budweiser ponies on top of his amp (I remember that specifically!). They opened with Hangover Heart Attack and were incredible. Fast, tight, menacing and just great.

I'd actually met Jerry around 1990 before I saw PI play. He was enthusiastic, and supportive, and more or less sober, a lot like he comes across in this video, but younger and more upbeat. He was actually at the Monday night open-mic jam at Satyricon and was raving about my band, which consisted of me, Jody Bleyle (eventually of Hazel and Team Dresch), and a couple of other non-punk Reed College weirdos. At the time, I'd heard a couple of PI songs, which were obviously scorching, but the main thing I knew about the band was the cover of their current album, Ian MacKaye, but the guy I met was nothing like I'd expect.
When I actually saw PI at Satyricon a few months later, they were terrifying. They were like a machine of streamlined fucked-uppedness and chaos. An amazing band.

One of the best punk bands I've seen locally in the northeast of England UK, back a couple years ago👍🏻👍🏻
My friends band, Leather face toured in the 90s with poison idea😁

What's crazy is tipsy Dan and sober Jerry. I love both of these men for their own separate journeys and their still being relevant to my own life experience. 2 of my favorite humans.

Hey Dan! just discovered your channel recently when I came across the McPheeters interview (which was great!) Maybe you remember me? My
name is Ross, we met in the bay back in the mid-late 90's. I lived at the compound with Geoff, Mauz and a bunch of other freaks! I have a faint
memory of hanging out with you and Claudia from Hannover at La Vals pizza in Berk. Seems like a lifetime away! Keep em' coming brother!

@@Damon0mania I remember the roady trying to take the glass and shit off stage because Jerry was just cutting himself up with it. He was so out of it! I liked seeing shows at the Country Club, hot as fuck in the valley but Fenders was just as hot with that low roof.
