    I really wish more crafters/artists would make a video like this. Some of the easiest ways to help your technique is to find the most efficient way to use your tools. Great video.

    I watched this video like a year ago and dismissed it like "this would never work". A month ago I set up a home wheel for the first time and stuck the big sponge there on a whim. It totally works, thank you for that! Between this and Tim See's video on how to use water my cleanup is so much easier now.

    I’ve tried many times not to put my pin tool in the water but the ceramic gods convince me every time to put it in the water.

    Thank you so much for the sponge idea. Just genius. I am always thinking of ways to organize my tools during throwing. I am watching a lot of your videos now that alpha fired isn’t having classes due to the pandemic. I started with the wheel 3+ years ago after retirement from Social Work. I’m one of those oldies I hear you refer to. If I was younger I’d be going to college for this. Now I depend on you and very few others for instruction. There are many people who make videos but they can’t communicate well. Your explanations are easy to understand and I appreciate how you repeat yourself. (In a good way). You also keep me laughing. I hope to meet you one day. Thanks for all your videos.

    I too put my needle tool in either a sponge or a hunk of clay. I have a plywood table with a cutout for the wheel area that holds my clay and wire to cut it. Behind and to the side I have ikea peg boards and picture shelves that hold stamps, tools, rulers. Ribs are held on a 1x2 board attached to wall with little nails to hold each rib. On my other side is a long shelf unit that lets me put my wet pieces to dry. It has several shelves on it, so can hold a lot. My stool is on wheels. Have a TV across the room to watch. Love my space so far.

    As a Newbie, this is a very helpful video! Thank you! I’m going to completely rearrange my wheel set up tonight after work! I knew something wasn’t right, but didn’t know where to start. Now, I know exactly! Simple, but extremely helpful video.

    I use a small quarter sized piece of clay, rub it into a circle then stick it to wheel beside my water bucket (towards the middle). That way I can stand the pin tool up when I’m not using it and it’s right in front of me.

    I threw a bowl with dividers to hold my tools and mirror. The bowl is set in front of wheel so mirror will show the back of the pot when throwing. I use a 1 gallon paint can for my water bucket. The needle tool is stuck into styrofoam block glued a board clamped to front of wheel The board has a magnet and clothes pins to hold other tools. Affixed to the top of the board is a dual laser throwing gauge (a modern throwing stick, centering guide and lid calipers in one tool).

    I glued a wine cork to the wall at the side of me for my pin tool. It's more secure than using a sponge.

    You're gonna hate me, I've only had 2 pin tools in the 5 years I've been throwing. The 1st one broke. The pin fell out of the tool. HAHAHAHA Get it? Anyway, I like the sponge idea. I will give.it a try. I use another bucket for my throwing tools and they always seem to get muddy and messy. I also didn't know I'm supposed to be cleaning the pan after I'm finished throwing. I wait until it's about half full. Aren't we supposed to be dirty?

    No matter what even if the pin tool is in a sponge, I have to touch the pointy part, witch is the reason why when I hand sew I probably should use a thimble to save my pointer finger

    I tried putting my large sponge inside between my splash guard and my wheel. The problem was the wheel put A LOT of black stuff on the sponge and even in the bottom of the splash guard. Any idea what that could be?

    Awesome set up, so dumb question, do you order those big sponges online and if so link please?! I have been trying to order them on amazon and for some reason they come in and are so much dang smaller than I need them to be! Last one is like half the size of those! Help!

    • @EarthNationCeramics
      @EarthNationCeramics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't order then online. I got them from home depot ( I would go to lowe's tho) but they are called clean up sponges and can usually be found in the paint isle.

    • @JennaDanelle
      @JennaDanelle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EarthNationCeramics I was just at Lowes yesterday but I didn't go down the paint aisle, thanks! Will look there next time. We are still on self isolation because my kiddo is severe high risk so I only go to stores when 100% necessary. I was at Lowes for the first time since March, as we needed water and our delievery isn't for another week and a half, so thought since I was there I would get a couple new buckets and things...
