Absolutely love your videos, Austin. My favourite part is the call and response. I never know what to do on my own, and being able to mimic you is not only training my ear to know where my fingers are going, but it's giving me the much needed ideas on how to play around with the scales. Love it.

Hey man! I love your content, and teaching style! I've been teaching myself fiddle since September. I can play a bunch of basic old time fiddle tunes, and know my basic major scales, but been having a hard time learning the bluegrass stuff. Your videos on the pentatonic, and blues scale are great! Had me jamming along right away, and I realized I already knew the basic pentatonic from playing around with Cumberland gap. Looking forward to more videos!

Thank you! Yes, much of what a bluegrasser needs to improvise is already embedded in the old time tunes

Great video, Austin. I'd love to see some bluegrassy minor pentatonic licks, meaning just like this except real licks you might use in your band. Also, where you place these licks in the context of a bg vocals song. thanks for all you're doing!!!

Thanks! This would be the starting point, followed by another video I plan to make which would be "extended range" minor pentatonic- meaning where these notes occur across a position. Once you have a good roadmap for these sounds, they can be mixed and matched to make your own licks! I like to use collections of notes as my springboard for improvising licks. That being said, there are also a few stock minor pentatonic licks that I use. If I were to make a video on licks I would want it to be more broadly useful for people- it would likely be how to transpose them/play them in different keys
