    • @greatescapefarms

      The wood is treated, so I've never had an issue with termites or ants. Pests and rodents will find a way in if they want to, so don't put things in there that attracts them.

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So far that hasn't been an issue. When I'm pulling it around there is enough of an upward lift that it is not raking. But, I've been pulling it around on solid ground. That may be a different story on mulch or something soft.

      - Why in the world would you want a "warm" greenhouse in the desert?! This design for sure retain moist, but also enhance inner temperature.
      In fact under full Sun light it will raise inner temperature a lot. Makes little sense for desert environment, even if nights in the desert can be quite cold.
      For whatever it's worth, my 2 cents would set you more into shade cloth/fleece cloth (reduce Sun exposure). Associated with heavy organic mulching (no plastics) for temperature regulation, moist retention and over time soil improvement.
      I believe it would provide better ROI, and easier to set. Since the cloth could be set either over the plants or in a pergola type structure. ;-)

      The thin plastic does not hold heat well at all. You can extend heat by putting water jugs in there and painting them black. This will act like a battery, charging in the heat of the day and discharging in the night. But they can only do so much.

    5,000 dollars worth of what product?

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are a commercial nursery operation and we take cuttings from plant, root them, and sell them. Here is the calculation on how we (as a commercial nursery) came up with $5,000 of product per 8’ long enclosure.
      8’ long, with two 2’ wide beds and a walkway in between. Plants have 2” x 2” of space. Equates to 96” length / 2” of plant space = 48 rows per bed times two beds = 96 rows total. Plants are 2” apart and beds are 24” wide yielding 12 plants per row. 12 plants per row x 96 total rows = 1152 total plants. Assuming 90% success in rooting, we yield about 1035 plants. At a wholesale price of $5 each, we yield $5,175 per 8’ long enclosure.

      If I did keep items in there, I'd use screen on the door, leave the window open, and also use a shade cloth of 50% or more shade so it did not get direct sun. I would just lay the shade cloth right on top of the glazing.

      You're fine. They don't treat lumber the dangerous way anymore, I built this greenhouse with treated lumber years ago after doing hours and hours of research on it. Not only that, but if your veggies aren't touching the lumber, there was never an issue, some people are just scared of everything.
