- "Rock-A-Beatin' Boogie" is a 1952 song composed by Bill Haley and first recorded by The Esquire Boys in 1952. It was recorded by Bill Haley and the Comets on September 22, 1955 and was released in October of 1955 as a single in the U.S. on Decca, backed with "Burn That Candle". It reached #23 on Billboard, #24 on Cash Box, and #4 on the RU charts in January, 1956. The song was featured in the 1956 movie Rock Around the Clock (Wikipedia).
I was born in 60's my brothers and sister were born in the late 50's so I heard every kind of music there was including my own genres of late 70's and 80's rock. I stopped listening to radio rock when Grunge (glorified garage band music) came on the scene and the beginning of the death of rock sometime in the 90's. But when the mood strikes I love to hear this old Bill Haley stuff he was innovator and pioneer part of rock history! Rock is Dead and the rap pop hip hop is not what I want. I wish we could see the death of that stuff but that will be another 50 years ..
Being born in 1954, I started buying records in 1966. Back in the 1950s, my neighbor was the all American teenager. He and his friends would tune their car radios to the same station. So my musical memories go back as far as 1957 with The Diamonds “Little Darling” along with a very few other summertime hits.

Other comments: RABBB was a song (s) Bill Haley especially for Danny Cedrone (by chance, I'm friends with him/"Jr."). So, the first release was dating back to 1952! Kay Carol on vocals (Rainbow Records, 12/1952). The same song had been also re-released in 1954 on another label. It was the same than the first described here. (Guyden Records 705-A released 'round April 1954.)/ B/w Wayne C. Handy's St. Louie Bues. I'm quite sorry.

How can so many people be hoodwinked???? Still fabulous, but get it correct. I met Bill when he and The Comets came to Adelaide...a nicer bloke you couldn't meet. His band? The best that EVER was.

Bill Haley, the man who deserves most of the credit for giving us Rock 'n Roll, started with his Rock Around The Clock song for the movie Blackboard Jungle (1955?). If it hadn't been for Bill Haley, Elvis might never have made it to being the King. our great black singers may never have received the recognition they had earned and deserved, the Civil Rights legislation may have taken another million years or so, and our soldiers coming home from Korea had something fun to come home to...Rock 'n Roll. I lived it all, and that's how I see it!!!
You’ve got that right! Check out the CD “Rock Before Elvis” on Hoy Hoy which features real rock & roll with guts, mostly from the 1940s (1928-1952). Most of these artists are unknown because they couldn’t break the color barrier.
