    During the pandemic, some Swedish towns near the border were complaining to Norway about closing the borders, as it led to big losses in revenue.

  • @sundhaug92

    Norway and Sweden are Schengen-members, so the border is basically a sign, and a line in the road. There are customs-checkpoints, but if you're buying stuff for yourself you can normally just cross as is (but there are limits on how much alcohol and tobacco you can buy)

    • @Nubbe999
      @Nubbe999 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You can drive from Norway to Italy or Spain and never need to show your passport. There are a few border crossing stations, mostly in the areas where people from other countries outside the Schengen can come throw.

    This is a bit of a misunderstanding. The boarder between Norway and Sweden do NOT represent Swedish prices. They are specialized in buying in bulks and selling cheap. Prices in general ARE a bit lower in Sweden, but the differences these days are not really that big anymore.

    I used to work at a grocery store here in Sweden. It's very important to make sure that the customers are satisfied and the employees are usually very hardworking and nice people. Also Scandinavians love helping people out.

    Norway has a high tax on sugar, which makes especially things like candy and soda expensive compared to Sweden.
    Fanta (500 ml) has the equivalent of 18 cubes of sugar in Sweden, but "only" 10 in Norway and Denmark and 7 in England and Ireland, and 6 in Spain.

    so basically they went to nordby shoppingcenter, which is just by the border in eastern norway a few hours from oslo. sweden have lower prices on stuff like alcohol and meat so norwegians(especially from eastern norway) love to take a day trip to hoard as much stuff as possible. the candy store is mainly there for the kids so that at the end of the day, the kid can get a little goodie bag with whatever candy they want for a low price. there is a joke in scandinavia about how norwegians go to sweden, sweden go to denmark, and denmark go to germany for cheap alcohol lol

    I just went candy shopping in Sweden for the first time last month as I’m from the west coast and it is a long trip for me, but when I went it was to this exact store and I bought way too much because the bags are enormous and i realized later that the chocolate there sucks compared to Norwegian chocolate. But seeing that giant candy store was still an experience and i get why people living close to the border do it regularly. Also with alcohol and meat although I didn’t do that

    The reason norwegians buy candy in Sweden is that Norway has a suger tax while Sweden do not. So the price will be more expensive in Norway almost everytime because of added tax. This also goes for soda.

    I love going to Sweden to buy food and candy. I'm a vegetarian and the Sweds just have a lot more to choose from in processed food and the packs are bigger and cheaper. I also go to a candy store like this and buy candy, usually we also buy chocolate that are made in my home town, the shipped off to Sweden and for some strange reason is half the price there. It's crazy. We usually take the ferry at 10 am and is home by 8 pm the same night. We have stricter rules than Sweden on how much alcohol and tobacco we can bring back. Sweden is part of EU and can bring 8 trays of 24 cans of beer, Norwegians can take 6 cans.
    In Sweden candy prices is much lower than in Norway, that's why we buy the candy there as we could actually get the same here.
    We usually go every 3-6 months, but many go once a week or twice a month to buy food if they live near the boarder as it will be so much cheaper. The Norwegian goverment is not to happy with people buying cheap stuff there as they want people to buy everything at double prices in Norway. During the pandemic the boarder was closed and people had to buy their alcohol and food in Norway and that's why there was a line two blocks from the vinmonopolet and the government that knew we shopped in Sweden realized how much money they could have lost buy people going to Sweden. Now that the boarder is open people are going there again and the government is tring their best to make it hard to buy tobacco and alcohol by lowering the limits of how much you can take, but people don't listen as the prices is so much higher here even though it has become prizier in Sweden too it's still cheaper.

  • @GnosticAtheist
    @GnosticAtheist ปีที่แล้ว

    If was more about prices before, now its more because these grand stores have more variation. That said, they buy in mega-bulk, so even other Swedes go there to get cheaper deals, or so I have heard. Still, everything is usually cheaper, although you have to buy plenty to make it really worth it as gas prices are pretty premium atm.

    Certain things, like candy, meat, alcohol and tobacco are cheaper in Sweden, so that’s why we go there. And that is why the Swedish border towns set up these crazy big, specialised stores catering to us. Electronics, bikes, diapers and what not, can actually be cheaper in Norway I believe, so it’s not everything. But i knew people who would do Germany 2 times a month for about 15-20 years. The normal stuff was sweets, beer, vinyls, and booze, and even as a teen you could save 150 dollars per trip if you had the money. But i know guys that saved 700 dollars per trip by filling a van with shit. But the government don't like that, so they became very strict. But shopping abroad is like going to the cinema here. Its normal as fuck. I can be in Germany in 2 hours in a car, and in Sweden in 18 minutes by train. That's easy 😉

    Border shopping is actually quite a thing all over the world, I found of a few years ago, cause I had a Russian study friend who used to go to Mongolia! So her it is.. Norwegians go to Sweden, the Swedish to Germany, the Germans to Poland, Polish to Russia, Russians to Mongolia and the Mongolians go to China. 👍

    These guys so hyped they break every unwritten social behaviour rule. Laying on the candy eating it and putting it back, commenting someone elses «hoards» of meat. Wtf and STANDING IN THEIR CART ON THEIR FOOD?? WTF?? People only go on board with it cuz they never experienced or thought to experience something like thuis, so they dont know how to react, and also, janteloven and being nice. These guys should have gotten some stern talking to after this lol. Id b disgusted if i saw that irl

      The camera makes the people understand they are doing some kind of mission and will be more understanding. If it was just random people with no camera crew I dont think many would have played along.
      But the laying and touching candy that they werent gonna buy was disgusting and not okay...
