Valerie, I just watched this episode with Kay. Let her know she inspired me to stitch the Red Brick House on 32 count over 1. I was excited when I looked through my grandmother’s books and discovered she had the McCall’s book with the pattern. I just started stitching it today. I’ve never stitched over 1. It’s definitely going to be my most treasured sampler when I finally finish it. Thank you for spending the time with Kay to share so many amazing samplers. ❤️❤️

You can hardly wrap your mind around all the beautiful samplers, it would take days to do them all justice. A sincere thank you to Kay for allowing us to come into her home again and to you too Valerie for taking us with you when you went to visit.

I want to thank Kay for showing us her fascinating and beautiful samplers. What a great idea to number them. I love when people fill their homes with their needlework and handmade items. If only I had known someone like her to inspire me when I was younger. Thank you so much for bringing her to floss tube.

Valerie, I just watched this episode. I was taken back to my younger years. My favorite aunt and uncle restored the exact same stone house in Maryland. I thought it was the mid-1700s but I could be wrong. Those were the times when it was difficult to photograph things because of special cameras, unlike the ever-present cell phone camera. Then life happened and they died. I thought they would always be around. I was a frequent visitor. I loved that house. The window sills were 15” thick. There was a winding stairway from the front up to the second floor. An old grandfather clock sat in the landing and startled me every time it chimed.
My aunt was an antiques afficionado. Her house was filled with pewter, pottery, fabrics, you name it. My uncle’s “hobby” was building furniture, fireplaces, you name it. He built all their furniture. He was a master craftsman. I was fortunate to have a few pieces he built especially for me. I loved those two.
When I first saw the shot of the side of the house, I was thrilled! That’s my aunt and uncle’s house! And inside it was just like theirs. Except for the cross stitch everywhere, there were furnishings as I remember. The beamed ceilings, the whitewashed walls, the wooden floors, oh, it brought back so many memories.
I really enjoyed this episode. I often talk about my aunt and uncle as if they were still here. My husband never met them, so I showed him what their home looked like. Thanks so much. While the stitching was beautiful and interesting, I just wanted to live in that house a little longer. Thanks for the video. :)

What a beautiful time spent her with Kay and her beautiful samplers! I believe the hazing on the inside of the glass is from the natural oils produced by Kay's hands. When any framed embroidery pieces aren't washed and blocked without gloves on prior to framing the risk for glass oil hazing is at risk.

Oh Valerie, thank you so much for doing videos! I so enjoyed our time with Kay! What a wonderful, lovely person she is and so very talented. I’m happy she said that she makes mistakes because some believe you never should. It didn’t seem to bother her if she had a mistake, I’m grateful to here that. I so enjoyed every minute of this video and seeing her beautiful samplers and home again. Thank you both for taking the time to share with ALL of us... it made my day! Happy stitching till next time, Cindy

Simply amazing once again. I’m so grateful to you and your friends for doing this. We are so blessed in our community to have y’all. I can’t imagine you’re surprised to know I’ve decided to purchase a new chart from Essamplaire-Norwegian Sampler 1724. It’s going to make great friends with my current project-Sarah Braizear 1829. I sure hope there is a stitching room in heaven. I sure am going to need it 😂.
I’m so glad you have joined our FlossTube community, Valerie. It’s such a joy to stitch with you.

Thank you very much, Valerie and Kay, for the wonderful visit. So much beautiful eye candy.
Joanne Harvey (The Examplarery) is still reproducing samplers and teaching classes. Just last week I ordered one of her samplers, Frances Burwell, from Colonial Williamsburg. Among other samplers, Joanne has reproduced the Lora Standish sampler, the oldest American sampler. The original is in Plimoth, Massachusetts.

Valerie! Thank you and Kay so much for this second video. You did a great job showing us the beauty of her work. I enjoyed delving further into her stitching habits, such an inspiration. I love the way she is so interested in the history and documents her own work. I have contacted Margriet (Essamplaire) and Marsha (Scarlet Letter) and told them all about your videos. I enjoyed seeing Kay's stash. I have over 100 Scarlet Letter patterns and over 50 Essamplaire patterns, so everything she showed I was familiar with...I think I smiled through the whole thing as I prepared Easter lunch. Your other video I have watched probably 50 times, this will be added for sure! Scarlet Letter website had been hacked this last week, but it should be accessible now. Thank you for the contact info for Kay. I think I need some Redware. Lol Happy Easter to you and your family and all good things to you also. P.S. The Ann Raynor sampler, the red house with the oversized people, Threads Thru Time, is an English sampler and when I stitched it and posted it on fb, the great(5?) Grand daughter of Ann Raynor contacted me and said that she had stitched it 5 or 6 times, enough for each gal in the family to have one.😁 Now that is dedication and perseverance. 😳

Hi Valerie, thank you to both you and Kaye for showing her beautiful samplers and gorgeous house. I just wanted to tell her about her Sarah Rogers Sampler in her bedroom. I don’t know if she’s aware of who Sarah Rogers was. She was the mother of Mary Balach of Providence, Rhode Island. Mary ran a very famous girl school and the samplers that her pupils stitched are absolutely stunning. Some of the samplers from that school have been reproduced. 2 from Scarlet Letter are Betsy Davis snd Betsy Manchester. The Essamplaire has one and it’s Sarah Munro. Sarah used to help her daughter by teaching the girls Needlework. Quite a few of the samplers that she’s stitched, I have as well. She has good taste 😄😄

I am off to try to source those Fiske Samplers from Old Sturbridge Village/The Scarlett Letter. I love OSV and try to go as often as I can! If you and Kay want to take a road trip, I'll take you, too!!! Please tell sweet Kay NOT to use tea or coffee on her sampler linen. The acid eats away at it. It's fine for small projects, but hers are heirlooms! I use walnut crystals that I had left over from my scrapbooking days, so they are acid-free.

Homesteading on the Homefront when I was a little girl and we would vacation in Maine, we would always stop in Sturbridge as the half-way point and spend the night. One time we delayed departure and toured around old Sturbridge Village, but I would love to return! Thanks for the offer - I might take you up on it one of these days!!!😁PS. Thanks for the idea about walnut crystals. I know I bought some ages ago (liquid in a bottle) and never tried it, but you have inspired me. I will tell Kay.

I'm interested in knowing the names of the two samplers you touched briefly on that hang below Lucy Redd, at about 39:57 on the video. I really love both of them and would like to search for the charts. Do you think Kay would be interested in cateloging her collection and displaying them on a pinterest board? That way everyone could enjoy them, and have all the pertinent information.

I am wondering if that haze on the inside of the glass is caused by a chemical reaction or off gassing from the hand dyed fabric and thread? Would a few small vent holes on the back help cut down on that haze? I want to thank you both for doing this video. So much history and education , so many works of the heart. Bless you all.

Happy Easter! Thank you for taking us back to Kay’s house. I love your fraktur piece too. If you find a source for the magazine I’d love one as well.

Thank you Kay and Valerie. Enjoyed seeing all your samplers. You may have said Kay, how long does it take you to finish a piece? Do you log how many hours or do you just keep the finished date on the back? Again thank you ladies for this tour of samplers, beautiful work.

How generous of Kay to let us into her home to see her beautiful work, and thank you for sharing! I did not catch the name of the sampler at the one hour and 12 minute mark. It was Sarah something, a simple, quaker in pale blues on natural linen. Could you share the name, and who made the reproduction chart? Thank you again!

Hello Kay and Valerie 👋 what a lovely video ❣️ it's called
    Off-Gassing / Out-Gassing I
    I think it's gass
check out outgassing or something called off gassing
when you asked what was that on the glass I remember reading about it when studying for my certification PPFA.
Back in the olden days we were told to take the work out of the frame after so many years to clean the glass. Off-Gassding/ Out-Gassing
But what do I really remember?
Ok thanks for sharing all the lovely pictures 😊👍 well done
I too have the Chase Sampler on my wall and a few IAM working on. Again thanks for sharing
