yeah this game slaps nascar 21 over the knees lmao. that comment on how it didn't need a patch notes list was the sickest badass burn ever! and that Fist of the north star reference was top tier!
My favorite was NASCAR Thunder 2004, but NASCAR Thunder 2002 will always have a special place in my heart for being my first NASCAR game. To this day, I can't hear Sweet Home Alabama without thinking about doing burnouts in the grass and going the wrong way at Daytona. Good times. About the cautions, I remember being glad 04 had quick cautions, but I was kind of disappointed you couldn't pick which lap to pit on under caution. Also, in 02, you can totally pass drivers by going down pit road and aborting your stop, especially at Martinsville.
One thing you didn’t cover. The crashing physics in this game are abysmal. It’s straight up impossible to spin the ai or get turned by them, or even slam much. If you try to do that, they just wiggle back and forth a little, then continue on racing.
Anyway, my first-ever NASCAR game was this one and why I became both a Gordon fan and why I fell in love with racing in the first place lol. Got this at Circuit City in Fall 2002 and months later got 2003 and then actually began watching the sport with the 2003 Daytona 500.
Nice to know I'm not the only one who gets a loud ps2 while playing this game, it sounding like it was gonna light on fire while playing this made me not play it a lot when i was younger Also I would like the 12 race career thing if we could do custom schedules tbh (maybe there is a way to mod it in idk)
I mean, Mike Dillon was still active in Busch in 2001, and with the whole Dale Earnhardt thing that far, I'm sure Richard Childress got some extra love all the way around
Great review, though I think you're selling this game a little short in terms of lack of content. Think about what Thunder Plates used for; Pole position, extra tracks, extra paint schemes, extra drivers, sponsors for create a car & videos. In 02 the game is so easy you don't need the give me pole award. As for the extra tracks, I don't think 02 has any. As for paint schemes it is a give me/everything is available. In terms of drivers there are three sets; the primary drivers (cup regulars & the King) that are standard, then you have the secondary drivers(Busch Series), that are unlocked with each championship in career mode 1-9 I think 16 new drivers/schemes total. Lastly there are Fantasy drivers, that you just got to put in the driver's name in the create a car to unlock them, there are 26 total. The most unique of them is you can race as the pace car. The only thing like that since this game was I think in 05 where you could race a UPS truck (DJ's we want to race the Truck promo). As for sponsors, another give me. Lastly are the videos two of them; one when you win a championship another when you get your 8th. All in all this goes to how easy this game is, and kind of showed the direction this series would go in.
KamikazeGames, I appreciate it so much that you made this review. I have a little secret I want to tell you (not much of a secret now is it). The day that I was born was when NASCAR Racing 2 for the Papyrus was released. BTW, are you excited for Phoenix this Sunday? I know I am.
Well, you'll have to try to convince him during a future live stream. I told him to do a review on this game about 4 months ago when he was playing NASCAR Thunder 2004 in a "100% full race on career mode" live stream because it was almost the 20th anniversary and since he already did a review NASCAR the Game 2011, it was the perfect time for an anniversary review. My advice, wait about 7 months and then ask him to do it. It'll be close to the 20 year anniversary of NASCAR Thunder 2003 and he'll probably do it then.
I still don’t understand why NASCAR Heat 2002 has Dale Sr. as an unlockable after passing beat the heat challenges meanwhile NASCAR Thunder 2002 doesn’t have him except the black number three at the beginning of the game and Dirt to Daytona doesn’t have him but I guess “she” didn’t want it to happen... but he’s an unlockable from Thunder 2003 through 07... how lovely EA...
I LOVE the 2002 season of EA Sports. NASCAR Thunder 2002 was Amazing. Madden NFL 2002 Had the best gameplay. NHL 2002 was so speedy and played so smooth. NBA Live 2002 Had the best physics Triple Play 2002 Ball Physics is on par with MLB the show. Tiger woods PGA Tour 2002 was so ZEN. Knockout Kings 2002 is better than Fight Night. F1 2001 is just as good as Nascar Thunder 2002.
NT2002 is still a marvel due to it being a brand new game engine. Wasn't perfect, but hell it felt advanced compared to anything else I played on console at that point with the NASCAR tag on it. Also 2003-2005 would whoop its ass later, but there is still something about wrecking backwards at Dover at Buster Auton that is satisfying as all hell to watch.
Are you talking about driving the wrong way and t-boning the other drivers. If so, I prefer Daytona or Talladega (but that's just me). In fact, if you play NASCAR 06 and play as the UPS truck, it's even more satisfying.
As a fan I love this game But Even NASCAR 08 on ps3 exists Its horrible not not as empty feeling as 2002 2002 makes me feel like im playing by myself There is no emotion
I should’ve just saved my money I have NASCAR 2003 Season and I have more fun in that even if I’m terrible. NASCAR 21 ignition is a dumpster fire right now.
"Happy birthday NASCAR Thunder 20 years old!" - Darrell Waltrip probably
yeah this game slaps nascar 21 over the knees lmao. that comment on how it didn't need a patch notes list was the sickest badass burn ever! and that Fist of the north star reference was top tier!
Honestly hope this game follows your NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup playthrough. We don't see many people play it.
I'm surprised Kamikaze hasn't heart your comment yet.
@@e93sports80 it's not exactly a wild idea for someone who has been pigeon-holed from the fanbase
I agree this is a lot better than NASCAR 21
OH didn't know you did this one!

The reviews are back, yes!
You're welcome. Trust me, had I not told him to do a review on this game, this video would never be uploaded.
@@jonathandequatro9498 thanks!

You can move an AI driver out of the way by getting in the back of them in the corners, but the crashes are terrible. No one can't get airborne.

PS1 Thunder 2002 was my childhood
I like how I got an NTB tire shop ad after the you need tires you idiot part 🤣
Jeff Gordon who was on the Thunder 2002 cover won the championship that year
13:44 I remember cautious at Watkins Glen would take 3 minutes per lap. A single caution would take 10 minutes.
Nice hearing the Twisted Metal music.

ONWARD TO 2003!
I still love the intro for this game.
This was funny as fuck, I hope you get around to thunder 03.
I love this game, im already a 3 time on a row champion in my first 4 seasons.
You forgot that there are no yellow flags in career mode
I mean, Mike Dillon was still active in Busch in 2001, and with the whole Dale Earnhardt thing that far, I'm sure Richard Childress got some extra love all the way around
I think you missed the fact, that it was the first NASCAR console game that featured full 43 car grid.
I tried telling him that, but oh well.
I liked the non-skippable caution pacing. Guess i am weird.
14:50 glad I’m not the only one who hooks up an HDMI adapter to his PS2! 😌

Also, I like how at 7:12, you managed to get the song from the original Twisted Metal game that's heard in the ending.
and Nickelback and the No. 1 song of the YEAR
4:09 The editing is perfect kamikaze 😂
I love how your name is Joe Mama
I played this game when it was new and never again so I don't even remember half the things you talked about lmao
Damn you didn’t have to do that to nickelback💀💀
And Jurassic Park 3 came out in 2001
You doing thunder 03 next

Dale SR is in NT2002. Just go to create a car. You enter his name and everything else auto fills. There you go.😁
Are you going to do a a NASCAR Thunder 2003 Review for the 20th Anniversary?
I LOVE the 2002 season of EA Sports.
NASCAR Thunder 2002 was Amazing.
Madden NFL 2002 Had the best gameplay.

I used to play this game constantly and I didn't even Nascar.
The Gates of Heaven have opened lol
Nice ending
Sega also stopped making consoles in 2001.

Our lord and savior has returned.
Thunder 2002 is way better! 😄👍🏻
whats your record lap time on tiburon in N08 or 09 (ps2)? do you think a sub-10s lap time is possible in whelen?

@UCvvVVTBotoA6qjNfSlmktGg 🤝 That is so Damn right
Maybe you could review the Twisted Metal games.
I wouldn't actually play this game because you only do 12 races a season in career mode instead of a full length season.
To be fair, you actually unlock more drivers when winning championships in Career mode.

14:20 NT2004 Has 1/2 speed but not slomo per se if that counts.
hey KG, what do the WTC and Silverside Up have in common?
they both dropped on 9/11
🤷🤣
