I've hunted with a Stevens .410 bore 60 years. 26" F&F. Turkey, Pats, Woodcock and many many more species all over the world. I will never be without a .410 bore.
@@joshuagibson2520 Joshua, Yes I do load my own ammunition. I owned an ammunition company from 1985-99, selling due to health problems at that time. Have a good supply of components thank goodness. My wife and I expend 3000+ rounds a month practicing.
This gun, shooting #8.5tss 11/16oz loads outperforms a 20ga shooting #2 steel in every single aspect. Pellet count is higher, pellets penetrate deeper, pellets hit harder at further distances. But for ultimate bang for your buck, a o/u running actual brass cases can be pepped up to shoot tss at about 2100fps. Severely reducing leads.
TSS brings those little .410s up to their full potential. It's a game changer for that little cartridge.... of course the downside is it's so expensive.
A lot of folks turn their noses up at the .410 but not me....And I got me a real, honest to goodness snout! A Remington bolt action, box fed (three rounds in the removable box magazine and one up the tube) was the first shotgun I hunted with as a youth. I took only Lord knows how many squirrels, rabbits, and quail with that old gun. I wish I had it back as with #6 shot it did not tear the little fur bearing varmints up and #7 shot was great for the quail that I walked up or my bread eating, mixed breed hound Smokey pointed. He would also tree squirrels, run rabbits, and retrieve downed quail and doves. I will always miss that dog as he was the best friend I ever had and the best hunting dog I've ever hunted behind. Since bolt action, repeating .410s are a mite rare nowadays, I might just have to pick up a Mossberg similar to yours and do me some small game hunting for the stew pot like I did all does years ago. Excellent video as usual! Take care and keep up the great work here on TH-cam!

Great review on the little 410. I've been really happy with my Mossberg 930. It just runs. I've been eyeing off their new 940 turkey in 18 inch but it's spendy given there's nothing wrong with the ol 930.
I was quite amazed by how well a .410 3” with 000 performs at close range (7 yards or closer). The 000 pellets are in a straight line, one behind another, and upon firing-and the first pellet is struck by pellet #2 which struck by pellet #3 and down the line. In other words pellets 1 - 5 pound the one to it’s immediate front deeper into the target medium thereby causing much damage and very deep penetration in the target medium. Now that would be an interesting ballistic jell test.

I have some old boxes with the price tag still on them. My neighbor gave them to me, so I don't know when they were purchased. #6 shot and 1/5 oz slugs, Western Super X, 25 rounds for $4.45.
Really nice 410 especially for the price. Be great with modified or IM choke for doves. If you can find enough ammo for a dove shoot. Very accurate with slugs. Have fun with this one.

Buffalo off subject of video but wanted to share. I picked up a Taurus tracker 44 last week. I think we shared similar ideas on Taurus firearms in the past but seems they have gotten better in last few years . I hope mine shoots and holds up like the ones you reviewed. Cylinder gap is around 4 to 5 thousand.
Congrats on the pickup Larry! I hope it serves you will. The recent manufactured Taurus revolvers I have tested/acquired have surprised me with their build/performance. I truly hope that it is a sign of quality improvements for the brand. That's about "just right" on the gap.
Love the 410!! 🦬 I only have one, a Side lock Side by Side it weighs 5 1/2 pounds made by CZ USA, 26-inch barrels called a Ringneck. They stopped making this one. It's so much fun to use I have no need for another. 🙂
Love Mossberg and love the .410, just can't believe the price of .410 ammo. It's cheaper to shoot 12 gauge. You're right, Mossberg should throw in a few more chokes. Nice shooting and great review. Stay safe.
Nice review on that .410, brother. I've got the Mossberg 500 in .410, but its wood, and not the camo pattern. Love the shotgun, just hard to find .410 ammo lately, and what you do find is so expensive. Keep up the great videos!
It makes a good 25 yard and in duck gun (timber!), using Briley extended Invector chokes (LM/M/IM, whatever patterns best as usual). Winchester or Federal #6 steel at 1400 fps does the trick. Check out "hagerman wings farm .410 hunt" sometime for close, fast, and effective 410 on duck action, they use the Win load, OEM Rem Mod choke, 25y and in, no problem.

Thanks for checking in on me. The worst of the flooding occurred south of me so I am fine but so many people have lost everything. It's a sad situation.

Thanks Buffalo. Can you show us how to remove a stuck choke. A smith wanted to purchase a new barrel and then add the chokes for me, $300, I could purchase a new gun back then. God Bless and stay safe.
Wow it must have been really stuck if a gunsmith couldn't coax it out for ya. I have removed a few that were stuck before but not stuck to that degree.
It's still hard to find down here in N.E. KY too. That's why I cut the video short and done my shooting bits in 1 take....LOL I buy a box just about every time I see any out but that's not very often.
I would have no qualms about recommending this model 500 for .410 slugs and I do plan on doing further testing with the slugs in this shotgun. I also have a Viper G2 that shoots slugs well but it is a semi auto so expect to go through some testing to find what it will feed reliably, I also have a Henry Lever Action .410 that shoots well with slugs but it's limitation is 2 1/2" shells so there's that..... but this Mossberg would be hard to beat IMO.
