Dang I made a huge mistake a couple years ago. My neighbors where selling there 2008 matrix xr with 86000 miles to me for 1000 dollars!!! But I needed a car then and they were not going to sell if for a couple of months. I ended up buying a crap Saab and then spent a bunch of money trying to keep it running then I gave up. My brother bought the matrix and has had no issues. Now I want it.
Is a Pontiac vibe just as good? I don't want the "same" car as my brother.

When I last worked there in 2013, those cars had close to 300,000 miles in the original engines and transmissions. The only thing wrong with the one I had was the passenger side strut. These things are insanely reliable and indestructible! I was looking for one back in 2016 but found out they’re not made anymore. Toyota had a good thing going.

Hi Scotty!! A member of my family and I traveled to Vermont for a university event in 2009. We flew to Boston and had to rent a car to drive to central Vermont. We asked to rent an economy car with room in the back for our luggage. The rental company selected a 2009 white 2-door Toyota Matrix for us. We drove from Boston to Northfield, VT in comfort, impressed with the storage, handling, and everything about the car. I have wanted a Matrix ever since. So last year, I found a 2008 Matrix for a reasonable price and now it sits in my garage. It's grey, though. I'd rather have light blue or red. Maybe I will get that changed. Your video help me to feel great about selecting this Matrix. Keep up the informative videos!!!!

It sticks on turns like glue. 4 disc brakes..the rear seats go down, but so does the passenger seat, and not like a regular seat goes down it does all the way down for storing items or you can even use it as a table if you are sitting in the back seat (seriously).
I added a kenwood touchscreen, back up camera, and a microphone ...love the car !!!!

The matrix and vibes were both good cars. What they did handle well at all was a lack of maintenance. While that's not good for any type of car. It basically lead Toyota to put out a recall to desludge motors. So anything with a Toyota 4 cylinder was open for a sludge recall. Which basically was taking the head off the motor and cleaning it then reassembling. So my question for you is what would cause it from doing it again... The answer is nothing. They didn't fix the problem, they just cleaned it up to get it out of warranty.

I’m a girl in my 20s every time I’ve bought a car or tried to get one looked at I’ve been screwed over. Ive been avoiding buying a car the past 2 years and have gone without just because I knew I couldn’t afford to shell out thousands of dollars for another lemon. I’ve been watching your videos religiously and I now have enough confidence to buy a car without fear of being completely clueless. I’ve done as you suggested and bought a scanner so I can check for problems and have a list of things to check when I look at a car. Also I’m only looking at Toyota’s and Honda’s 😂. Thank you !

I have an ‘06 Matrix, base trim level. Bought it new and it still runs great at 180k miles. Rides like a Cadillac on a smooth road, lol, but hit bumps and potholes and the ride gets rough instantly. Didn’t cost me nothing the first 10 years but regular maintenance. I’ve had some bad luck, unfortunately, in the last 3 years with aftermarket suspension parts failing and having to be replaced prematurely. Plan to drive this for another 5 years at least, and then maybe keep it as an extra car for when family comes to visit.

Toyota actually saved 5 cents in the manufacturing process by programming them like that. Guess it piles up when you're making hundreds of thousands of cars. I use oil change intervals to keep track of mine. Now I'm up to 332,000 miles and I have a TRD supercharge kit too. Still drive it like a maniac from time to time on back roads and it loves to be driven fast.

I have a 2007 Matrix at 177k currently and was hoping to get it up to 250k. It's nice to know that these cars can get up to these high mileage numbers. Going to start saving for a new car since I don't want to pay interest on a car loan. Looks like I'll have some time to let it grow in the market.

I bought an '03 Vibe in '08 and it's still going strong in '22. The only major repairs in 14 yrs, new alternator and starter. I've also recently had the front suspension replaced because 10+ yrs on a dirt road takes it's toll. I love my Vibe!

HI Scotty, thanks a bunch for your shout out to the Matrix! I bought my 2005 Toyota Matrix new, and been driving it as my only car for 18 years! An excellent meeting of space, comfort, drivability, and gas efficiency (especially on the highway). And I agree those flat folding rear seats are the best. A really fabulous car!
I live in the PNW and my car is exposed to the elements. There's been a leak on the front passenger side where the bar meets the ceiling - I've trouble shot the sun roof and drains myself, and then taken it in to the shop - they removed panels and ran water through the sun roof-drains and could not find any problems. I then suspected the after-market yakima roof rack footing, so I recently removed it, cleaned everything, and silicone sealed it all and re-installed it. I experienced leaking once during a heavy rain afterwards, but not in during rains in the weeks since then - hoping it was residual water from somewhere. Also, maybe due to moisture - my sun roof and CD player no longer work, and you can't see the time on the dash clock. Do you have any thoughts, tips, or advice? I'd most appreciate it! Thanks again.

The dash clock on my '06 (purchased new) croaked, too. My sun roof does not leak at all, but I've probably opened it 3 times in 18 years. I never open it now, because I am afraid that the gasket may have deteriorated, and why invite problems? I am 76 years old, and this is by far the best car I have ever owned. I am keeping it until I croak.

Pontiac Vibe actually looked better than the Matrix. I saw a dark blue one in Costco last fall, beautiful and looked new, struck up a conversation with the owner, 2007 bought used from his Uncle, barely had 70k, installed Pioneer touch screen radio with back-up camera for an upgrade, his wife drives new fully loaded Subaru Forrester, the Vibe is his "baby"

I have a 2004 Toyota matrix xrs. It's the one that has the Toyota Celica GTS engine and 6-speed transmission. I paid $3, 000 for it and it has been the best investment in a car I've ever made. For that price, I've put over a hundred thousand miles on it nearly problem-free. I also drive the thing like it's a getaway car! 😂
