Thank you Billiam, I thought I was the last person on this planet who loves Scrappy Doo. He was not and still is not treated well and that makes me sad
Yes! Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated needs all the love. I just finished binging the series again and it's soooo good! And a lot darker than I remember with the darkest of it, in my opinion, being the Horrible Herd episode.
I LOVED Zombie Island. It had my favorite type of animation from that era, and every bit of cinematic production felt weighty and relatable. As Mr. Billiam said, it felt like a horror movie with a bit of comedy sprinkled over it. There was so much realism and gravity to it that I'd forget I was watching an animation at times. Thanks to the 2D animation, it still holds up well to modern standards, so much so, in fact, that I was craving the art style and smooth in-betweeners to the point where I actively sought out a source to watch it a few months ago--thank goodness Netflix has some deal with the CW! I only recently discovered the reason why I loved the Hex Girls tracks in their debut movie... Apparently, I've had a voice actor crush on Jennifer Hale long before I played her as SHEPARD in the only non-puzzle shooter I'll ever love. I hear her voice, I cheer. Simplest constant in the universe.
1:03 FINALLY someone else who loved Scrappy Doo! I loved him because he was just a kid, yet he was willing to fight the scary monster. He set an example that other kids could follow, about standing up in the face of danger. "Let me at em, LET ME AT EM!" And I 100% agree, that thing that was in the movie wasn't the real Scrappy Doo!
If you think about it Scrappy is just the basic premise of the show taken to eleven. The whole idea of the Scooby franchise is kids being foolhardy enough for face off against terrifying forces.
One thing that took me a while to like about Scrappy was how much he loved Scooby. Sure, maybe he was a bit hard headed but he really did love his uncle and that's something wholesome, dang it!
Even though I'm not fond of Scrappy, I can understand why people like him. The sad thing is, there are people who, as soon as they hear his name spoken in a positive context, leave a dislike and go about their day
Not gonna lie Scooby doo Cyber chase is what made me really want to become a game developer when I was a kid. I haven't made it there yet but I'm trying.
As a kid, Cyberchase was my favorite, mainly because it was the one my local blockbuster and library had. However, as an adult, the witchs ghost is my personal favorite, mainly for the villain. Tim is just great as always.
Did Zombie Island scare the absolute crap out of anyone else as a kid? Also I love how happy Billiam looks through this whole thing. He's so pumped to talk about Scooby Doo.
I was always scared when it would come on. Anyone else seen like every movie multiple times cause CN played those movies like everyday. Not just these 4 either I'm talking about all of them
I hate to say it but for me it was Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer(the jewish lady) and Eris form the Sinbad movie OH OH OOOH and also Chel from el Dorado
Zombie island is my favorite of the 4 movies. Everything about it is just good, and that song "is terror time again" is just awesome. Witch's ghost is a close second for sure though.
Ugh I remember doing that with the movies CN would rerun all the fucking time Some literally every weekend for a whole year It's been years for some of them but I dont think I can sit down to watch them without getting a headache
@@Natasha-mw2nt i as a child hated that movie and was the only scooby doo movie I only watched once because it scared me so much.I watched it again some months ago and I loved it now but it’s understandable why a 5 year old would get nightmare because some parts still creep me out today.

This is basically the same comment I made on Ryan Hollinger's video on these movies, but The Witch's Ghost is what introduced me to Wicca. I grew up under the impression that Wiccans are good people who commune with nature, which is pretty unusual for a kid from a Catholic family.
Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost were both amazing animated pictures. You could tell they really cared about the source material and wanted to do something fun and new with it. They succeeded. Didn't much care for Cyber Chase and Alien Invaders. They went a little too out there for my tastes but I can appreciate them for what they are.
I'M GOING TO LOOK UP WHAT THAT IS NOW! So many people have commented that, but for this first time ever, I refused to watch anyone else's content on the same subject before posting
My brother loved the Hex Girls. He still sings the songs, and was so excited when they returned for Mystery Inc. (Edit: please use this in your mailbox)
These movies were pretty much my childhood, though I've seen Alien Invaders the least of the three. It's clear that these four declined in quality because Warner Bros became more confident in the Scooby Doo brand after these movies revitalized the franchise.
Mailbag: my favorite was whenever "Danger Prone Daphne" struck. Like instead of turning on the lights inside the haunted house she'd turn on a buzz saw, lol
Zombie Island came out when I was 7. I've watched the next two, but I cannot tell you the amount of times I watched Zombie Island. It's one of the many things that turned me into a lifelong goth and horror fan.
Dude. I’m getting flashbacks to going to the video rental section of the grocery store with my sister and getting “Witch’s Ghost” over and over because I loved the Hex Girls. So rad to see someone talking about these again!!
I grew up on the original live action, the alien movie, and the Cyber chase, and I completely forgot about this part of my childhood. But looking back on this. This brought back so many happy memories in a hard time. It's nice to have this nostalgia come down and bring back alot of my childhood
Mailbag I love that part in the episode with the Black Knight where they said that shaggy was the best gymnast they had at school that actually explains how Shaggy was always able to be very athletic and fit and jump and flip and run all over the place and also had a high carb diet since he was constantly training for gymnastics go figure.
Mailbag: The scene from the KISS crossover where KISS and the gang fly through a rift in the universe on a guitar themed ship that's powered by music in an attempt to save Shaggy and Scooby from dimensional witch who's trying to take the detroit rock from them is pretty interesting.
@@TheLandBeyond_Productions yes, KISS were actually ancient fairy warriors and guardians of a super wand disguised as a guitar that Timmy uses to defeat the Darkness, because of course there's a Darkness. It's from their three part Wishology episode and it's great. I bought it off iTunes bout 10 years ago and i need to watch it again.
"You can ask anyone of any age, and they'll have their own image of the Scooby Gang." Unless you're like my wife, who had never heard of Scooby Doo in Japan.
Cyber Chase is definitely my all time favorite Scooby Doo movie. I remember watching it all the time as a kid. I love it. That's the one movie I always wanted to have on DVD and didn't for the longest time. Finally got it for Christmas one year. Don't even know where the DVD is anymore. I got the movie on Google play and iTunes now. I sometimes watch it on my computer. That movie is awesome.
As a kid I loved the "It's Terror Time Again" song. Of course kids this days don't know the frustration of having to wait for Cartoon Network to play the movie to hear the song. Now you can just hear it on TH-cam when ever you want.
Whenever someone says they hate Scrappy, or that Scrappy Doo was a bad character, my knee-jerk reaction is to look them in the eye and say "Ghoul School". The original cast worked in their normal format, but adding real monsters without the mystery approach meant their expertise would have been forsaken or overlooked. Inversely, Scooby and Shaggy are defined by their cowardice and thus would generally tend to flee at the first sign of something 'spooky'. Scrappy's confrontational demeanor and hero-worship of his uncle Scooby work to force Scooby into situations where he must overcome his fear in order to save someone he truly loves. Scrappy believes that Uncle Scoob can beat any threat, and thus will try to go head-to-head against the sharpest odds confident that Scooby will be there to protect him. And this is most clearly seen in "Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School".
Thank you for this Scooby Doo series, perfect for the spooky season. Some of the VHS/DVD solo movies are gems. Can't wait for your _Mystery Incorporated_ episode, one of my top favorite Scooby-Doo shows; I love the different direction/tone it had.
Cyber chase was great when I was a kid, it was my brother’s favourite film! It was obviously very popular given all the games on pretty much every console at the time.
Billiam I don’t hate Scrappy like most people, I really like him as a character. I feel that he needs a comeback that will help people change their opinions of him. Hopefully in the next Direct to Video film.
I always enjoyed the way Scrappy added a twist in the series formula. Him being a reckless little guy was a fun addition to the group’s dynamic. Plus I liked that he thought Scooby was a brave role model when Scooby is always terrified. I hated that the writers of the live action movie did that to Scrappy. Just cause they disliked him doesn’t mean every fan feels the same way.
I keep going back to your Scooby Doo videos whenever I feel like I need some good vibes and tbh they have really been keeping me sane these past few weeks between work, finals and the riots... 🙏🏻❤️
Re-watching these movies I noticed something interesting (and honestly, a little disheartening). Fred & Daphne seem to be the only ones who are given a relationship that works out well in the end! In Witch's Ghost (which remains my favorite of the Scooby quartet), Velma gets a love interest in Ben but he ends up as another addition to the "Tim Curry Bad Guy" list. I remember liking the idea of Velma getting to explore romance whilst remaining the superior mystery-solver, so I felt bad for her when Ben went evil, because you're right, they DID have cohesive interactions up until that point. But of course I couldn't be upset for long because I was quickly won over by Tim Curry being another fun and creepy villain :). Then in Alien Invaders, I was especially invested in Shaggy's and Scooby's blossoming relationships with Crystal and Amber, which I thought were BEYOND cute, especially since Amber is originally uninterested in Scooby but warms up to him later. As interesting as the twist was, I was really disappointed to learn Crystal and Amber were aliens and thus had to return to their own planet. It's hard enough for the duo to get girlfriends I imagine due to their over-the-top antics and crazy eating habits, so to see them succeed in finding girls who appreciated them for who they were, only to lose them shortly after, was really sad. Plus, the fact that Crystal and Amber were aliens seemed to say that no Earth girls would find Shaggy and Scooby desirable; they'd have to find alien girls to be appreciated, and that sucks. Same with Velma; only a man revealed to have been using her found her attractive. But Fred and Daphne? No no they're fine don't worry about it. So yeah, let it be known that Velma, Shaggy & Scooby all deserve to be just as happy as Fred and Daphne! (Which is probably part of the reason why Mystery Incorporated had Velma be attracted to Shaggy, because the writers knew that they deserved a long-overdue success in the love department).
I guess depending on which iteration of Scooby-Doo you look at, in the older series (the movies) that focused more on Scooby-Doo, shaggy and scrappy. Shaggy was dating a rockabella chick when he was a race car driver and in the whats new Scooby-Doo, Velma had that love interest in Egypt and that archeologist guy when looking for a crystallized dinosaur. Not to mention she was interested in sam Winchester in that one crossover.
@@silentsnake31 True, I forgot about Omar, the Egyptian prince that Velma worked with in Where's My Mummy. They made for a cool duo; even more so when the twist was revealed. Don't think I saw the dinosaur one and I KNOW I didn't see the Reluctant Werewolf, I was more into Ghoul School, but yikes did Shaggy's girlfriend have an unfortunate name in that one. But yeah, point is that it often goes back and forth for Velma and Shaggy in the franchise, but with Fred & Daphne it's much more stabilized (for the most part).
Well uh about that shaggy and velma relationship Both were extremely unhappy and it ended with them realizing different things lol One thing that is reoccurring in some of the relationships for shaggy and scooby is that they realize they dont need that stuff by the end
I've got these movies on VHS, in relatively new condition. My favorite by far zombie island. The vibe given off in that movie as a kid really stuck with me! A movie you can watch anytime, any place!
Zombie Island and The Witche's Ghost are two of my favorite movies from my childhood. And just like you said they still hold up to this day. I recently watched them last October and they definitely got me into the Halloween spirit. Haven't watched the Alien one so I may check it out this October!
Scooby doo zombie island was one of my favorite things I watched growing up on cartoon network. This video was an awesome trip down nostalgia lane. Thanks Billiam 😊
Your comment about Americana finally put to words why I love the first 3 movies so much more than the rest that follow. The setting and the atmosphere truly are just as important if not more essential to the film than the mystery. I cannot imagine any of those films being in a more perfect setting. Ever since I saw the Witches Ghost I have wanted to go to New England during the fall to experience the leaves. It is atmospheric and nostalgic in a way that none of the other films have been able to grab me. Likely an unpopular opinion, but I get a similar vibe from Boo Brothers and while I recognize the lack of quality, I think it captures a similar atmosphere to me and it’s one reason why I can’t help but hold those 4 films as my favorites in the Scooby doo genre.
I really loved seeing Scooby-Doo in Supernatural, they nailed the animated versions of the Supernatural cast. I suggest any fan of either to go watch it!
Just recently I started binge-watching all the old episodes of Johnny Bravo, including the one from the first season where Scooby and the Gang did a crossover. And I realized they took certain things from that episode and put it in to That Scoobynatural special. Like how Johnny and Dean were both trying to get with Daphne who only had eyes for Fred, and how Velma had a thing for Sam like she did with Johnny. She always did have a thing for guys with broad shoulders. One thing I'm surprised about was their reaction when they saw that brutally murdered corpse for the first time. I don't know why but I was expecting more of a reaction from them like that "Scooby-Doo Murder Files" cutaway gag parody of them from Family Guy. "You're right, Scooby. We're dealing with one sick son of a bitch."
Lol, the music in cyber chase when they meet their younger selves is one of my favorite. I like how pop dancy it sounds, I can literally hear it in my head right now. Lowkey, I think it might have had an influence on my taste in dance/electronic taste in music as an adult😅
Though I have a lot of nostalgia for "Where are You" and "a Pup Named" I can't say that I enjoy them much nowadays. Now these first 3 movies and Mystery Inc. on the other hand...
Cyber Chase was also my favorite movie growing up, I found it way too scary, I believe it was because in Brazil things used to arrive later, so I watched it around 2004/5. It was a time where viruses and cyber menaces were largely discussed in media, and since I didn't own a computer, I didn't fully understand tech stuff and the movie seemed scarier than it actually was xD
Man I remember when my sister told me when I was little I always kept watching Scooby doo Alien movie so much to the point my family had to hide to VHS tape from me... that's how many times I've watched it!
I was 4 when Scooby Doo on Zombie Island came out, and my dad rented it from the grocery store as a new release. I woke up in the middle of the night because I was sick. Then my dad put on Zombie Island for me. Oh lord. I was horrified and had nightmares for weeks 😆. My family still teases me about it.
So someone brought this to my attention that cyberchase's monster is kind of y2k as a scooby monster. It's kinda brilliant because for a lot of people this was the most terrifying thing ever. I put it at number 2 on my list most of the time, but knowing this now it's my number 1.
Omg... someone else that hated that Scrappy was the villain in the live action. I remember especially being mad because they left the puppy in the desert to die, just because they found him annoying. I, a child was convinced that was not the gang or Scooby I grew up with.
Yeah I'm not on board with this sudden recent influx of people suddenly claiming that the first live-action Scooby movie was some kind of subversive classic. Just because everyone grew up and now they're cynical asshole adults who like the fact that the movie feels like it actually kinda hates the old cartoons. I'm sorry but if you're making a Scooby Doo movie for kids that can only be appreciated by cynical adults, you've failed at making a Scooby Doo movie for kids. "Oh, but it was written by James Gunn and he's awesome!"... okay, and it was also directed by Raja Gosnell, who sucks. And the crazy part is that a lot of these people seem to also say "the first live-action movie was great but the second one sucked"... the second one was the one that actually DID feel closer to being a real Scooby Doo movie.
One of my favorite memories of Scooby Doo from my childhood: Halloween '98, I went trick-or-treating with my cousin in his neighborhood, wearing a Scooby costume my parents bought me from a catalogue (one that was so comfortable I wore it as pajamas for a few years), and when I came home exhausted and proud of my haul, I got to watch the premiere of "Zombie Island" on TV. For the record, my parents HATE Scooby Doo.
My favourite series of the franchise is What's New Scooby Doo. I mean, have you *_HEARD_* that kickass theme song?! Other than that, there really is no beating the VHS movies in quality and childhood nostalgia.
The Warner needs to release a Hex Girls album. I can't find the music in decent quality.

And I 100% agree, that thing that was in the movie wasn't the real Scrappy Doo!
Plus Scooby occasionally played the responsible brave uncle for his nephew and it was adorable
Even though I'm not fond of Scrappy, I can understand why people like him. The sad thing is, there are people who, as soon as they hear his name spoken in a positive context, leave a dislike and go about their day
I cried n had a horrible nightmare as a child after watching Scrappy as the villain 🤌🏼💀🤷🏻
Not gonna lie Scooby doo Cyber chase is what made me really want to become a game developer when I was a kid.
I haven't made it there yet but I'm trying.
Congratulations I decided to become an actor so that I'd play Spider-man as a kid still trying
Keep trying! As long as you keep at it and do your best, there's no reason why you can't succeed!
wish you the best of luck
Cyber chase had a delicious vibe
The animation on the cotton candy is still in the back of my head
good luck with that :D
I remember cyber chase being one of my favorite movies of all time as a kid
When you realize Shaggy been clapping them Alien Cheeks😂
He is the cause of the raid
🤣
As a kid, Cyberchase was my favorite, mainly because it was the one my local blockbuster and library had. However, as an adult, the witchs ghost is my personal favorite, mainly for the villain. Tim is just great as always.
It’s weird because I thought you were talking about the PBS show
I liked Cyber Chase as a kid too, since it was the only one I owned for a while.
Billiam: this leads them to Louisiana, where they find their real monster. Also known as the locals
Me, who lives in Louisiana: yeah, p much
Did Zombie Island scare the absolute crap out of anyone else as a kid?
Also I love how happy Billiam looks through this whole thing. He's so pumped to talk about Scooby Doo.
Me, me!!
Was terrified. They weren't supposed to be real zombies. It shattered my worldview
Maybe? For some reason all I remember is Scooby and Shaggy eating I think crawfish in the van while everyone else were hanging out inside.
It scared the hell out of me and I didn't watch it again for a few years
I was always scared when it would come on.
Anyone else seen like every movie multiple times cause CN played those movies like everyday. Not just these 4 either I'm talking about all of them

A pup named scooby doo was the only scooby doo iteration I liked as a kid lol
Zombie island is my favorite of the 4 movies. Everything about it is just good, and that song "is terror time again" is just awesome.
Witch's ghost is a close second for sure though.
As a kid, I watched Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island every single week, at LEAST.
yeahh it was on cartoon network all the time in the UK
Ugh I remember doing that with the movies CN would rerun all the fucking time
Some literally every weekend for a whole year
It's been years for some of them but I dont think I can sit down to watch them without getting a headache
I’ll be real, that one movie gave me nightmares for a few months :/
@@Natasha-mw2nt i as a child hated that movie and was the only scooby doo movie I only watched once because it scared me so much.I watched it again some months ago and I loved it now but it’s understandable why a 5 year old would get nightmare because some parts still creep me out today.
Zombie Island was my childhood gateway to darker story-telling, love that movie.
I re-watched it again a year or two back and it STILL HELD UP
The Vampire Rock festival one set in Australia was also freaking amazing!!

Was I the only one who thought the Hex Girls were an actual band?
Same too
Seemed like a real missed opportunity there
Yeah
well the thing is that they are. the voices behind the hex girls are a real band, but I don't remember the name tho.
@@Destroy6168 Jane Weidlin from the Go-Gos was one of them - she was the voice of Dusk the drummer. Kimberly Books voiced Luna the keyboardist (she'd voice Cassidy Williams later in SDMI) and Thorn was voiced by veteran Jennifer Hale.

To be fair, the body does look to be going through putrefaction or early stages of advanced decay-but still super impressive.

I'll admit that Cyber Chase was my favorite as a kid as well. I even had the board game and really enjoyed it.

These movies were so well animated back then and aged better then I thought.
Definitely
thats cause they were animated in japan..
I really hope you get to review "A Pup Named Scooby Doo". That and "13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo" were my favorites.
But we’re all hoping for a mystery incorporated review

They used to air 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo leading up to Halloween. They really got you in the mood back then.

Mailbag: The scene from the KISS crossover where KISS and the gang fly through a rift in the universe on a guitar themed ship that's powered by music in an attempt to save Shaggy and Scooby from dimensional witch who's trying to take the detroit rock from them is pretty interesting.

Billiam, I trusted you. How am I supposed to watch any of your content in good faith now when I know you LIKE Scrappy-Doo?
"It's Terror Time again" was a cool jam
Review The Ghoul School special :p and maybe the Kiss crossover movie please
21 years later, I still have that song stuck in my head and I have no regrets.
Zombie Island and Witch’s Ghost are two of my earliest Scooby Doo memories, and I love those movies so much 😭💕
Huge nostalgic flashbacks. The Witch's Ghost was also my favorite out of the lineup. This is an absolutely awesome video, good job!!
It still haunts me that Scooby's canonical full name is Scoobert Doobert
Every year as kids my best friend and I would watch two movies
1. Any Scooby Doo movie
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Cyber chase was great when I was a kid, it was my brother’s favourite film! It was obviously very popular given all the games on pretty much every console at the time.
It's a cry for help, he's wearing a Shaggy get-up
Glad I'm not the only one who loved Scrappy as a kid and hated fact that he was villain in the 2002 movie , you've earned my respect Billiam. 😁
this post was made by Scrappy gang
@@billiam That makes three of us.
I liked Scrappy, he was the "let me at em" non-coward contrast we needed to round out the cast.
It's terror time again💀 I just know noticed the Shaggy shirt
You're not wrong, but it always bugs me how romantic relationships are used as a barometer of happiness and accomplishment.
Well uh about that shaggy and velma relationship
Both were extremely unhappy and it ended with them realizing different things lol
One thing that is reoccurring in some of the relationships for shaggy and scooby is that they realize they dont need that stuff by the end

“Scooby-Dooby-Doo Where are you? We got some work to do now”
Your comment about Americana finally put to words why I love the first 3 movies so much more than the rest that follow.
I thought it was too good to be true (when I first heard of it). But it was actually really good
Just recently I started binge-watching all the old episodes of Johnny Bravo, including the one from the first season where Scooby and the Gang did a crossover.
It was pretty solid
Lol, the music in cyber chase when they meet their younger selves is one of my favorite. I like how pop dancy it sounds, I can literally hear it in my head right now. Lowkey, I think it might have had an influence on my taste in dance/electronic taste in music as an adult😅
15:41 I just now noticed that the background artwork in these movies is gorgeous.
Scooby Doo on Zombie Island was hardcore. And that awesome song It's Terror Time Again is great even without the movie
I have a ton of memories with these, especially Cyber Chase, I remember the PS1 game being really hard too.
SAME. That game was a lot of fun. I kind of want to play it again
Thank God I wasn't the only one who thought that game was hard. 😅
I had the cyber chase book,I didn't know there was a game cool
I had the game and I was never able to beat it haha
That game was too damn hard . It was frustrating as a kid . Couldn’t get past the samurai level or was it castle level
