I did my first dry pour about a year and eight months ago because of your channel. Three feet by ten feet by 3 1/2 thick. It has held up exceptionally welll! Also, I discovered two of the coolest people on TH-cam when I found your channel. I TRULY appreciate your content! Ya'll have a great weekend! :)
I'm a big fan of dry pour, it is something that almost any one can do and get good results ( if can follow instructions). Jill and I have had great success with our dry pour projects and plan to do many more. Thanks for teaching a great technique.😊
About 45 years ago, we had a cabin on a lake. One winter, the water was lowered to allow property owners to address our shore line. We bought Quickrete and tie stacked the bags. We drove rebar through them every so many feet. We didn't wet them or anything, just waited For the water level to rise. Over time, the bags obviously disintegrated we sold that property about ten years ago. Many generations of my family jumped from that small sea wall over 35+ years. The wall was still there when we drove away from the place for the last time. ❤
I did a 10x17 3.5" dry pour slab for my shed base 2 years ago after watching your videos. Been solid as a rock, and I drilled and put concrete anchors for the bottom plate of the framing. No issues, no cracks. I also laid about 6 4x8 concrete reinforcement metal grids (not rebar) for extra strength. I would definitely do it again.
To be honest quite impressed. I remember watching when it was poured. I had my doubts but seeing more pours I can see it can work. Until the next video ❤
That's pretty darn awesome. After watching your first dry pour, we did one at my son's place. Wet Oregon weather and occasionally freezing and it never cracked or deteriorated and still looks great. Thanks you two Hootises. Love your videos.
I'll definitely be using dry pour for some projects. But after Tyler Ley covered it with testing, I decided a pad to work on my car was not one of those projects, the PSI strength is low enough I worry about the leg of a jack stand punching through. I'm absolutely not hating on dry pour, I just want that info about the PSI out there for safety, a jack stand puts a lot of force in a small area. One of the projects I'm planning to do dry pour is to install a thin slab, in multiple "pours", in my crawl space it's rough and a tight fit under there, and being able to use an automotive style creeper would be really nice, plus it will be kinda fun :D
My first dry-pour was much smaller than yours. I made pet burial markers for our cats that have already crossed over. They turned out nice, and helps me pause and remember them when I'm mowing the back yard.
Good morning, I love your videos. Have you ever done a dry poured pond? I'm curious to know how that would hold water over time. Have a great Cajun day!
I ran across one of your dry slab pours a couple of years ago and I've been watching ever since.. I've been really enjoying watching you guys build your house as well. You guys are a great team and have a beautiful family, God bless you and yours! I just wish you guys were our next door neighbors so we could hang out and I could sponge a lot of information from you guys. If you're ever in Arlington look us up I've got a great Mexican food restaurant I think you guys would like! You guys take care and have a Merry Christmas! Looking forward to your next video.
Hi! They turned out great! Lydia here, I would’ve done them one step at a time if we do it again. Just pour one wait a few days, then pour the next till you have all your steps! That’s just my opinion though!
Great video as always. I was definitely waiting to see how that dry pour turned out. Lydia, your in-video sponsor segment was seriously top notch. Well done!
I would like to see a 4 to 5 in thick dry pour slab 15x15. I have been thinking about this to set a shed down on it. I would also like to see how a 6in thick dry poor would turn out for a curved and straight driveway. I think I would use rebar for both for strength. The drive way I would like to lay it in 10x10 ft sections over time, say 2 years.
I remember seeing all the haters and hater videos after you did this first dry pour. Ahhhh the memories. People just cant handle when someone does something a little different... Great to see that it was everything you have always said it would be. Hope yall had a happy Thanksgiving!
I want to dry pour a floor under a shed 13x14 and a basement room 12x15, 2 diff floors. Shed not heated, basement heated. PA temps 0 to 100 yearly. Advice please. BTW you two are awesome! Thanks for all the info and know how. I'm currently adding TLC to my parents build of 1945 of which I have acquired and live in. God bless y'all!
I was told about your dry pour videos way back then since then I have followed your channel and loved every bit of your content. You have also mentioned in this video that you were looking for new content for dry pour material. I was thinking you could do a dry pour sonotube type of construction or some way of building a dry pour root cellar or a basement foundation. Its just a few thoughts of my own as I start clearing my property for my homestead in the Midwest which is next to your beloved wife's state of Illinois.
When there was just a little rebar inside of this pour it would not have been roken. I lately saw a wall made of concrete bags, just staged up with rebar penetrating the bags. In time the bags desovle and you see only concrete boulders as a wall. Looking very nice.
Hi! So in the past, we have filled holes in the road, cracks, pretty much you name it we have put concrete. Jim’s aunt has some bad potholes in her driveway, so we filled them in with concrete and just wet them down. Is it the prettiest thing, no. Is it functional.. 100%. So overall, we would say yes!
@CajunCountryLivin AWESOME! Thank you so much! Being a one gal band home owner all the upkeep is on inexperienced me. I genuinely appreciate your input, knowledge and help!
That was awesome 👍😎 I really got worried when Jim flipped the slab! It really came to close to his toes😮 Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving 😊 Till the next one... 🙏💗👍🤙
I have been involved with some tearout of concrete driveways done by so called professionals that were quite thin and cracked much worse than your dry pour! I have never done a dry pour but looking at the results of your work and the price. Compared to some of what I see here locally done by contractors I would rather go your route on the dry pour! Great content by the way!

My only comment on dry pouring is location, your ground is far more wet and you get more rain at times and heat not sure if in cold climates it would hold up with out reenforcement and a good base based the ground in colder climates shifts
It wasn't a dry pour, but we had a little 4'x4' slab outside the back door of our original home here. When we rebuilt the house, we moved that slab out to the outside of our gate to the pasture. Don't know about house foundations, wouldn't myself, but I don't honestly think that a wet pour that thick straight onto clay with grass scraped off and no reinforcement, would have fared any better. not trolling.... can someone explain the merits of dry-pour? concrete where I'm at is around $5 a bag. typically we mix with white-sand and gravel, both very inexpensive. mixing is easy with a few simple 5 gallon buckets and mixing attachment for my drill. I do 4" slabs, and I can't even imagine the cost involved with doing it all dry-cement. the sand and (esp gravel) are there for a reason to make it stronger - no? Rebar also is very inexpensive. Even if you just throw in a few #9 bars and tie them together. so, why the fuss about a dry pour? seems to me it has less strength, and costs far more dosh?
Use it to fill a hole?! What are ya'll thinking! Cut it up into little squares and sell um! I'd almost want to do a crush test on one of those little squares and compared to a wet pour square of the same size. Get scientific on us and all.
