24:58 maps are usually projected in the Mercator projection which was made for sailors to identify shapes of countries, but distorting their shape which is why the countries look very weird.

Dido the reason the maps are distorted is because, it’s very hard to put a 3D image (our earth) onto a 2D plain (map). So countries farther away from the equator are stretched to fit on the 2D map.
25:00 its because the earth is a 3d Ball, but Maps are 2d, something like that. If you cut a Ball in a Pantern, you See that it Cant Form a Rectangle. So to make a map like wie Used to See, we deform some countries. Second: the countries in the middle of a Ball are nearer to use, who Looks on it, that the countries that are in the north Or South, which Must be Farer away😅
For the true size of game, if you look at the world map, you can see how it is a sphere kinda shape bc of how the earth is round. This creates an illusion bc the higher something is, if you look at it from the centre of the earth bc it’s tilting on its axis then, Russia is north so it will look bigger.
The maps thing has to do with geometry. Since the earth is 3D and isn’t perfectly spherical it has a bulge. When you map the longitude and latitude lines onto a 2d coordinate plane, it distorts the curved lines into straight ones during the mapping.
I really find your videos tingly and great to sleep to. Sometimes nice to watch during the day to since I like the content of some of the videos too. Keep up the good work Dido

I would just like to point out that on the "True size of the world" Website, Usa looks huge when you compared it to russia because its a type of map that makes countries on the north look streched, so they appear large (i think). In reality, Usa is not that big compared to russia, its just streched as you move it north.
