Who the Marauders were wasn't fully flashed out in the movie. The map was created by Harry's dad(James), Sirius, Remus and Peter. When the three found out that Remus was a werewolf they "elected" to become animagious in order to be there for Remus. In their animagious forms James could turn into a stag, Sirius could turn into a dog and Peter into a rat. Their nicknames are Mooney(Remus), Petfoot(Sirius), Wormtail(Peter) and Prongs(James).

I am INSANELY skeptical about the new HBO series, and I don't have a good feeling about it... But reading stuff like this really reminds me of how much those books deserve a full adaptation. The movies are good for what they are, but obviously there is so much condensing that needs to happen. We are now at a time where TV can have the scope and budget to handle a series like this... But I also don't know who the audience would be anymore....

Something that is never explained in the movies is the Divination teacher, Professor Trelawney, can actually tell the future. She just doesn't know when she's doing it. So everyone thinks she's just weird, but she does have the gift of foresight. Don't know why they never explain her predictions in the movies because they are actually a big part of the book's story.

One of my favorite book lines: When Harry hears the prophecy he goes to Dumbledore and tells him and Dumbledore says, "You know, I think Madam Trelawny may have just increased her number of prophecies to two. I may have to give her a raise." I believe though, she can SEE, but is terrible at interpretation. I mean a dog WAS in Harry's teacup and there WAS a dog watching Harry. It just wasn't a grim or a death omen.
For me that little scene with Lupin at the bridge was soo great! It was the first time he heard something nice about his parents and how they were.. the music and dialogue was amazing to me, very underrated moment

Sirius is my favorite. He comes from a very old pure blood wizarding family (you will learn about them in the future movies but it won’t explain this). He is technically rich and even on the run he still has ways of accessing that wealth. That’s why he was able to afford the fastest broom in the world. So no he didn’t steal it.😂 It was great for Harry to finally get a family member who spoils him after living with the dursleys. Great reaction!

Well, this, and the fact that in the books he received Firebolt in the middle of a school year, far before the whole "revealing the truth about Sirius" took place, and it was an important part of the plot (including Harry vs. Hermione fight about it) - it was simplified a lot in the movies...
In the books it is explained a little better; the first-aid for a Dementor attack is to get someone to scarf some chocolate. The endorphin rush from the chocolate will help them lift their spirits and get back to normal quicker!

Lupin was bit by a werewolf named Fenrir when he was a child. It was done in retaliation against his father who had said werewolves were soulless and deserving of death.
The shrieking shack was a place Dumbledore let lupin go to when he would transform into a werewolf through the path under the whomping Willow. Whomping willow would keep other students out. This was done so that Lupin could attend school and that's why it's called the shrieking shack because Lupin would be howling inside.
If you go back and watch the original punching scene you'll see future Hermione's hands on the wall in the background where she and Harry watch it happen again.
Sirius was assumed to be the killer because he was James' best friend and everyone thought he was the friend they trusted with their location but it was Peter.
A fully-formed Patronus takes the shape of an animal. His dad's was a stag, that's why he thought he saw his dad but they just share the same patronus.
And if you think about it, Ron's attempt at divination was correct. Harry suffered but then was happy about it at the end.
And in case you didn't notice the original Dumbledore, Richard Harris, passed away so Michael Gambon took up the role.
No, Sirius was ASSUMED because he was laughing and mumbling "It's all my fault, I did it." Of course he was talking about the fact HE persuaded James to use Peter because people wouldn't think of him, they would naturally assume James would use his best friend. Sirius was a decoy. He was feeling guilty, NOT guilty. It's part of the reason he survived Azkaban, he KNEW he was innocent.

It was said he was laughing when he was captured\arrested, and because of word-of-mouth and people thinking he was their betrayer, they said he was laughing maniacally, when in fact he was hysterical, the effect of disbelief that Peter beat him so thoroughly and the built up emotions of what happened. Remember the poster? Imagine that as one of the stages of his hysteria at the time.
There is A LOT of theories why he never received a trial. One I heard was that "Everyone knows the Most Noble And Ancient House Of Black are a Dark family, so would be immune to any method of forcing the truth from them". Another was Dumbledore wanted to control Harry, so instead of using his position to get him a fair trial, he LET him go to Azkban, the one I think was supposed to be cannon was that after Voldermort disappeared there was such an upheaval that the current Minister at the time-Millicent Bagnold-was struggling to keep order and control and made Sirius an patsy. But about that reason, OTHER Death Eaters got a 'trial' (a sham because all but the most insane pleaded they were under the control of Voldermort) so why was Sirius exempt? Again, patsy, they needed someone to hate as much as Voldermort. Hence the stories making him into a loyal follower-Stan on the Knight Bus claiming Sirius was Voldermorts' "right-hand man".
It's more than that - Shrieking Shack was built and whomping willow was planted for this particular purpose - to be a hiding place and a safe point to access it for Lupin.

IMO, the movies actually start to get worse here. The first three were adapted fairly well, but the next ones (being longer books) suffered greatly. But I guess lack of screen time isn't necessarily a solid excuse, since they even managed to fail a lot of things in Part 7, despite splitting it into two movies.

Prisoner of Azkaban is by far fans’ favorite installment in the series, the newly stylized-dark theme is all thanks to the director Alfonso Cuarón.
You both should watch his other movies like Children of Men (2006) and Gravity (2013)

Something I haven’t seen explained is why Lupin and Snape come to the Shrieking Shack. In the books, Lupin is using the Marauders Map when Sirius drags Ron away. Lupin sees that and the name Peter Pettigrew on the map, so he immediately realizes that Pettigrew framed Sirius. Until that moment, Lupin believed Sirius had betrayed James and Lily.
Lupin then raced out of his office, leaving the map visible. Snape arrived shortly thereafter with a potion that he gave Lupin every month to stave off the effects of the full moon. Snape saw the map and the names in the Shrieking Shack, so he followed Lupin.
It’s silly that they didn’t explain that in the film. Two lines of dialogue would have shown that Sirius and Snape didn’t just turn up out of the blue.
That also could have explained why Lupin had not taken the anti-werewolf potion.
I agree they could had added that in so we can see how the hell snape and Lupin popped up and why he didn’t take the potion!
The time travel concept was very well realized in this film. They did a great job tying everything together and this basically kick starts the main story of Harry Potter , you will see why in the next movie but now all the main pawns have been introduced. Great reaction as usual, really enjoyed the edits as well 😅

It is in fact the books, that got it "right" in the first place. In Wizarding World time travel is very strict - you can not change anything in the past, everything you encounter actually already happened, that's what makes time travel in HP so smooth. The only situation where it changes is The Cursed Child, but it is in fact a fanfic, not J.K.Rowling's work - and it is the reason why many HP fans treats The Cursed Child as not part of the canon, as it does not follow this fundamental law in HP universe.
It is not mentioned in the film, but in the books Hermione was very concerned about Harry showing himself to "past Harry", because "we cannot be seen" - it is very important to not interact with yourself while time traveling, especially with past self unaware of time travel. Only after Harry assured her, that he was the only one, who saw the "second Harry", and thought it was his dad, Hermione was able to calm down.
The man gave Harry a piece of chocolate. The dementors take away your good feelings and memories and make you feel nothing but hopelessness, which is what depression does. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate contains an ingredient that doesn't exactly cure depression but it helps alleviate the symptoms, I think. J.K. Rowling said she was inspired to add the dementors to the story while she was suffering bouts of depression.
oh yes that’s definitely true since chocolate causes the release of endorphins and make you feel happy, idk why we didn’t put two and two together, we kept thinking he was trying to poison him or something lol

As for Lupin - no, he didn't had a crush on Lily. He was best friend with James and Sirius with Peter. He get along with girls easily so he was a friend for Lily who knew that he was a werewolf.
Sometimes people ship Lupin with Sirius, because its more likely than Lupin and Lily for sure.

The reason there is a different Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher every year is, the post was cursed by Tom Riddle, who wanted the job but was turned down by Professor Dumbledore because of his attraction to the dark arts and his prejudice against non-pureblood wizards, which he called "mudbloods"

i really love this movie it’s probably my favorite in the entire franchise, that being said i have just one major grievance with the writers of this film and that’s at the very beginning of the movie when Harry is PURPOSELY breaking wizarding law by using magic outside of school and than to make matters worse he immediately contradicts himself by being afraid of getting in trouble for ACCIDENTALLY using magic on his aunt…i’d love to know when all the actors sat down and read the script for this movie did any of em turn to the writers and let em know how stupid that opening plot was lmao
Yeah, that's a shame - Harry did not use magic on purpose in the muggle world in this book, just like in first and second - he did threaten Dudley of it, in the beginning of the second book (before Dobby uses wingardium leviosa in his home, when the Dursleys was made aware of him not being allowed to use magic in presence of a muggle, by howler sent to Harry after that incident), but never actually used it.
I couldn't wait to get home and watch y'alls reaction. I wasn't disappointed. 😊 The next movie is my favorite book. The story is about to get intense. I'm looking forward to y'all watching.

In the books, the divination teacher is presented as a crazy fraud lady doesn't have foresight powers, but afterwards when you go back to look at all the various predictions she makes throughout the series, they all ended up to be true. She even predicted Dumbledore's death a few hours before it happened, down to the time and place, though she didn't specify Dumbledore's name. It was just a way for Rowling to put in some foreshadowing.
The actress that played his uncle’s sister was the lady from Matilda. Miss Honey’s Aunt Trunchbull.

Been so looking forward to you guys continuing to make it through the series. I love this movie, but my favorite is actually the finale. They really stuck the landing. All the movies are great, but I love how they progress and the themes mature with the actors. It was such a wonderful thing to experience growing up with the books as well (I read the first two books when I was 10 and then each book as it was subsequently released).

Also not explained until the end of Book 5, Harry has to always return to the Dursley’s house because the power Harry has was because his mother sacrificed herself for Harry. That love in is in his blood, which is the same blood that flows through his aunt (Harry’s mother’s sister, Petunia). It needs to be replenished every year in order for it to continue to be effective against people set out to hurt Harry.

Fun Fact No Spoilers: in the books Sirius was able to communicate with Crookshanks, Hermione's cat while in dog form. That's how he got Harry the broom. Crookshanks brought a note to the owl office (their post office) with the order in Harry's name, but paying for it from Sirius' account at the bank.
It's surprising that the Ministry wouldn't freeze all known assets belonging anyone sentenced to Azkaban. Then again, maybe they do and Sirius has a cache hidden somewhere. I dunno, I'm writing for the writer at this point.

If you haven’t done it when you finish you should do Lord of the Rings. They actually came out the same year but LotR was filmed all at once and it’s mostly all practical effects which makes it beautiful (they build cities for realism) and Rowling borrowed a ton from Lord of the Rings

I love the Marauders. And I'm very upset that many film fans don't even know that James, Sirius, Remus and Peter were the Marauders and the creators of the map. And there is no mention of this in the movie..

Sirius Black was actually the creator of the Marauder’s Map. He created it so he, James, and Peter could be with Lupin during the full moon. Why Lily never joined them is a mystery.

I might have misunderstood you but I think you got a little confused about Sirius Black's ability to change into an animal. Sirius Black is what you call an Animagus. A person that can magically change into an animal any time they feel like. Just like Professor McGonagall can change into a cat and back into human form at will, Sirius Black can change into a dog. There are no potions involved in the transformation. The only potion involved only happens when you first want to gain the ability to be able to do so. From my understanding it takes an enormous amount of time and work that partly includes holding a mandrake leaf in one's mouth for a month I think. If I recall right, the animal form that you take when you become an animagus depends on your personality. You can't really choose how you look like.
Professor Remus Lupin on the other hand is a werewolf and therefore has no control over his change that happens only when there is a full moon. He can partly control it by taking a special potion but it still takes a lot out of him. Hence why he was constantly missing classes every now and then.
When Harry Potter's father was a student at Hogwarts he and Sirius befriended Remus. Peter Pettigrew also joined the friendship. Because they knew about Remus' condition James, Sirius and Peter decided to become animagus so that they can be with Remus while he was in his werewolf form. Werewolves don't hurt what they think are other animals.
The four best friends called themselves The Murrarders and they were the ones who invented the magical map that the Weasley twins gave Harry. Plus the names on the map "Padfoot, Mooney, Wormtail and Prong" were their nicknames they gave each other in school. The nicknames referred to the shape they would take. Remus Lupin is Mooney because he is the werewolf. Sirius Black is Padfoot because his animagus form is a dog. Peter Pettigrew is Wormtail because he takes the shape of a rat. And James Potter (Harry's father) was Prongs because he took the form of a stag.

Professor McGonagall is registered, so the whole Ministry of Magic knows she can be a cat, even what her cat shape and fur looks like. But, being naughty kids, Harry's dad, Sirius and Peter never registered with the government. Which would make them illegal Animagus. Since nobody in the world knew he could turn into a black dog, this explains how Sirius was able to hide after escaping Azkaban. And why Peter was able to fake his death for 12 years (this one is particularly exceptional, just imagine pretending to be a rat for 12 years and letting a pack of kids manhandle you and keep you as a pet etc).
