  • Hello my lovers! One thing about me is that I love a good rom-com, and this movie has definitely been intriguing from the get-go. I won't reveal too much about my thoughts, except one thing: If I were Bea, I'd be sending my parents to a nursing home after the stunts they've pulled and the words they've said. #sorrynotsorry!
If you personally would've just taken a cab, rather than jumping off a cliff, give this video a like, respectfully comment your thoughts, and as always, SUBSCRIBE!!! Or don't. I can't make you.... Or can I?? :)

The people seem to like it. 87% audience score on rotten tomatoes, still in the top 10 movies in theatres after 9 weeks, and it's made $200 million worldwide.

Rae, I love your reaction video! I have seen “Anyone but You” several times-loving it more and more, and here are some cool things to notice in this romcom for this new era and so popular with Gen Z (and a super hit making over $200 million worldwide with just a $25 million budget):
    1. The director Will Gluck put in Easter eggs for “Easy A”: Ojai on Ben’s T-shirt that he puts on after Bea leaves his home, and many shots of oranges. Gluck previously directed “Easy A”, which was set in Ojai, California. And included numerous scenes with oranges. “Easy A” also features a Natasha Bedingfield song, “Pocket Full of Sunshine”, with “Unwritten” being the bop for “Anyone but You”. The director says that the use of “Unwritten” was not an intentional Easter egg though.
    2. Halle tells Bea at the beach that their mom-played by Rachel Griffiths-thinks of herself as Australian since arriving there. The actress is actually Australian (from Melbourne) in real life.
    3. There is an NPR Easter egg: the “Hidden Brain” psychology podcast playing on the airliner as Bea looks for an open lavatory.
    4. The scene where GaTa trains the border collie to attack the toy fox can be considered a “Chekhov’s Dog” device: it foreshadows Klonopin (named for a panic attack drug!) knocking over the wedding cake.
    5. At the climactic and romantic Sydney Opera House scene, there is a nice callback: Bea tells Ben, “Are you going to kiss me now?” At the beginning meet cute cafe scene, Bea says, “Are you going to ask me out now?”
    6. Glen Powell’s parents appear in the airliner cookie scene. His father is sleeping in the seat next to Ben. His mother is lying across the aisle. She raises her eye mask and gives a side eye glance at Bea, who is doing sex-like gymnastics above a sleeping Ben. She then puts her eye mask back on, to mind her own business. Glen’s parents regularly have cameos in his movies.
    7. When Dermot Mulroney says, “As they say in the home country, ‘abbondanza [abundance in Italian]’”, this is one of many references to the Shakespeare play “Much Ado about Nothing” on which the plot of this romcom is based. Mulroney plays Leo Messina in this movie, whose counterpart in the play is Leonato, the governor of Sicily.

The reason bea apologized for the cake is because her and ben were saying the words "fuck it up", which is the phrase the dog was trained with which is why it grabbed the toy (which is why the cake fell).
I know, it took me a while to get it too.

I watched this all the way through because of you. You're adorable (and beautiful). I gated this movie. Sydney Sweeney doesn't do it for me as an actress. And she can't sing one bit. And neither could ANYONE else. The producers tried to copy the formula of the classic "My Best Friend's Wedding" (also with Dermot Mulroney) and couldn't come close. The singing in that classic was fantastic and fit perfectly. Glen Powell was great in Maverick- but just ok here. Still, he was better than most everyone else. The acting was terrible. The only one I loved was Alexandra Shipp- she (like, I think you said, at one point) should've been the focus. But without the sister. As far as a much better recently released Rom-Com, try "Upgraded" (Amazon). Camila Mendes is a 1000x better actress than Sydney Sweeney (at least in this role-- I only watched 2 episodes of Euphoria and she was not memorable). Mendes can sing beautifully, as well. She doesn't sing in Upgraded but her singing voice is top-notch. If she had been cast as the lead in Anyone But You- the movie would've been great. Marisa Tomei is always great and she's also great in Upgraded.
