Thought I would never see him. Ted Kite was my uncle at 52.29 sec. He started as a fitter for a lorry company there. Got us lots of lodgers for his mums (my Grandmother) spare room. Was always bringing contraband down to us at Brambledown (damaged boxes) but seemed eager to burn the boxes for some reason. After he died his wife died shortly after of a broken heart. You could always tell when he had been shooting on our land because of his cigarette packets left everywhere (Kensitas ? Extra mild in the light blue pack). My Mother (his little sister) is now 86 and still hanging on despite being the only one left.

Great photos. I worked there for 4 years. Started off as messenger boy. Always seemed to be riding that bike against the wind!!! My dad was a Stevedore, Joe 91.

Thank you so much for making this video. Was great to see pictures of my Dad and Grandad. Graham and Ken Beart. I have great memories of fish while Dad unloaded a boat. I did work there once we unloaded a timber boat. Dad put me with an old hand to keep and eye on me. His name was Bill Colnut I think. Thanks again for the memories.

A wonderfully documented collection of photographs. Not many can have this much detail about their old work mates.

I used to go Sheerness Dock with groupage, firebricks, Plastic Baths and general freight for Jamaica from Glasgow in the mid 70's. Good Dock to get unloaded, nice people.
I remember seeing Moskvitch vans being towed round the dock, 5 at a time! Deck Cargo on Russian Timber Boats, they were rusty before getting landed!
    Enjoyed the Slide Show.

Sheerness was the place where I First saw and touched the sea. I was 6 years old. I can see from the photos that this was before diversity came to town.

Lovely memories from when I lived on the island. Knew / remembered about 30% of the dockers, from the 'social side of life'. Some damn good lads there. Great days.

Peel Ports should be sure for what they have done to the dockyard through total neglect.

Noticed David Lillo. He lived in Jefferson Road at the same time I did. Paul Lillo's brother.

Very interesting and well put together. Ignore the nasty ignorant comment made about 3 years ago. You'll always get one (think they call them trolls).

Here I am 5 years later. I am the same generation as these guys, maybe a tad younger. But I don't know any of them. Apart from two. Paul Lillo, and his younger brother David Lillo, the "giggling girl". They lived in Jefferson Road with us. It it because I went to the Tech, and these guys went to the Central? Is that "Educationalist" to say that? I suspect it is right though.
