I just had my wife listen to this after this legend of a human laid to rest today. She had never heard of it and it is the earliest memory I have of my schooling.
NOSTALGIA!!! i finally found it!!! ive always imagined myself for years now as a kid listening to a ukulele song and reading a book but i could never remember the name, until i randomly looked up “1980s ukulele story childrens book” and stalked the photos until i saw a visual that sparked me and I DID!! 10/10 feeling. im a 2000s baby but its been 15+ years since experiencing this book!
Man when I was a kid I had the book and the cassette tape of this. I would listen to it all the time before bed. I love this guys voice. Really brings the characters and sounds to life
I remember hearing this story when I was younger. I loved James' voice as the narrator. After he died, I just wanted to hear it again. We miss you, James. 😢
I don’t have nightmares. But there was a time when after listening to the cassette while reading the story, I switched off the lights, and I saw a peculiar shadow on the wall, looking like Abiyoyo’s clawed hand! I was scared for a bit, then I hummed the song until I fell asleep. When I woke up, I found out it was only the lamppost light shining behind a tree branch.
This is the storytelling voice I heard during naptime back in Kindergarten, and it's been almost 30 years ago. It's great to hear it again after so long.
Im glad im not the only 1 who had nightmares about this. J.E.J has an awesome voice for storytelling but as a 4 year old, "one day the sun rose blood red over hill" 1:58 shook me to the core😂
They had us read this in preschool with headphones in and for the next 3 years I had nightmares about Giants. I love James Earl Jones but something about his delivery frightened 4 year old me to the CORE. Forever in my childhood, and forever in my nightmares
I remember seeing this on Reading Rainbow when I was a kid back in the 1980s...great story. They don't tell them like this anymore...James Earl Jones had such a great voice! He was awesome as the villain in Conan The Barbarian.(with Arnold Schwarzenegger)
Yeah I myself would listen to the cassette as a kid and look at the book in wonder as well. The illustrations of the giant appearing along with Janes earl Jones riveting voice...what a combo!
In this time period with such hate in the world is when we need Pete Seeger most. While I do believe most people are good the love and compassion Pete had for humanity was like no other and their will never be another like him.
@@KindergartenKiosk 1:16 I just noticed that I see a modern day guy in a blue suit with a red tie in the middle between the man on the left and a woman on the right.

So weird! I introduced this to my preschoolers yesterday and then heard of the news later 😢
“One day the sun rose blood red over the hills” that line haunted me for years when I was a kid after listening to this on cassette
the art for that part scared me too.
The music, the oil painting, the voice. It chilled me for sure.

I couldn't find this version for a while, but the narrarators voice is so distinct I knew exactly this was the one I listened to in preschool!
RIP James Earl Jones

Same. This is probably the first story I ever heard
because he is Mufasa..... James Earl Jones is a LEGEND
I remember hearing this story when I was younger. I loved James' voice as the narrator. After he died, I just wanted to hear it again. We miss you, James. 😢
Abiyoyo was basically like Attack on Titan when the Colossal Titan breaches wall
When Darth Vader reads to you Abiyoyo from the Force....
If you didn’t get nightmares when that shadow appeared over the sky, you are lying to yourself
Lol I never did

Now the nightmare is gas prices and disinformation 😔
That shadow scared the ever loving crap out of me when I saw it for the first time. I was probably four
Ahhh shiii you called us out🤣😂🤣🤣
I like 👍 abiyoyo by voice of mufasa from the lion 🦁 king 👑

maybe because you probably have Mufasa's death PTSD

Mufasa reading
Oh man, what happened to the good old days where these stories filled our minds with wonder. What happened to us...
We have become old...
I still remember this from my childhood
We did my friend
😢
R.I.P. James Earl Jones
I was in school listening to this and reading it during class I’m 23 and still remember this
Mufasa telling Simba a bedtime story.

That part always gave me goosebumps! Even now! It is a great combo, in addition with the music!
Are you talking about the pic of abiyoyo appearing over the horizon?
@@anthonylopreteiv9921 That pic is my fav. The giant coming over the hill in the horizon.
I FOUND IT IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR YEARRRSSS
Omg me too!! This was my favorite story as a kid, completely forgot about it until I just remembered it!
ABIYOYO Nightmare
I was just thinking of this and found it as well!!
I knew I watched it on Between the Lions, but I never remembered the name, had to wikipedia and google to finally find it, SCARED me as a kid
Brings memories 😊
1:57 I love how the narrator changed his voice. This is how storytelling should be

Agreed

@@izactheangel I have never noticed that before.
@@KindergartenKiosk that guy almost look like Donald Trump from my perspective. No political references intended.
I haven't read this story when I was in elementary school in 1997 or 1998 but I'm glad I remembered this story after all these years.
Where did you get the big book from?
Scholastic
ABIYOYO was my friend
Best version
Abiyoyo is the son of Grendel from the ancient epic Beowulf
@ Not funny
used to scare me tbh 😅😂😂
Mufasa?
Yes
Rip James Earl Jones
I don't get it, what's the moral of the story? Living things that eat must disappear.
Am I the only that had bad dreams about this?
Seriously is this for kids
It’s definitely scary
