An amazing teacher who should be a model for many piano pedagogues. The clarity, passion, insights and grace with which you share your teaching are inspiring. Thank you for offering your gifts and hard work so generously, Dr. Zhang. 谢谢您,张老师!
I am so touched by your comment! It felt great when you know your work is being appreciated. Thank you for letting me know, your words truly meant a lot to me!!
You are the clearest, most passionate and inspiring teacher I’ve ever seen. I will continue to refer to this lesson for your excellent technical and artistic suggestions as I work on this piece. I love your playing, and am grateful to have found you. Thank you, from the depths of my musical soul. ❤
Fantastic. Wow. Thank you Ms. Zhang for this excellent analysis with learning suggestions. I am just starting this piece and I feel well supported by your teaching. New sub!
Dr. Zhang thanks for the very inspiring tutorial! Very encouraged to attempt this wonderful piece. Constantly referring back for your very helpful advice.
Excellent! Really well done. Just sent this to one of my students who is working on this beautiful Impromptu. Great practice ideas to help supplement what and how we have already worked!
Hi Dr Zhang. I just started studying this piece and your video fell just at the right time. I truly appreciate your tips. I will come back as soon as I have some progress. All the best and keep up your excellent work.
You are GOOD Tingting. I wish I could study with you. Im currently re-learning this work, along with all of Op. 90 for some concerts. Keep up the inspiring work!
Personally I think sometimes the RH can be a bit softer, let the LH speak, and be shaped more. The trio could flow a bit more, have less rubato, and have some more dynamic. Other than that great tutorial!
I found your channel today and you are amazing, and of course I have now subscribed! You remind me so much of the last teacher I had during my years of study. I wanted to play this Impromptu when I was in high school, but the second teacher that I was with at that time with would not teach it to me as she said it was too difficult for me!! Thanks to the teacher I had for the first 3 years of my piano study, I was gifted with very good sight reading and an already relaxed and flexible technique. I anyway just worked at it myself and because my scales and arpeggios were good, I was able to play it. Later when I started my musical studies after school, I asked my teacher if I could learn it as an additional repertoire piece. Your tutorial here is wonderful and thank you for your amazing and performance and technical tips. I am actually teaching it to an adult student at the moment, so your practice tips are invaluable. Thank You!
Dr . Zhang, it's fantastic video and it really helps me a lot how to teach this piece. Especially, I am impressed about your analysis studies. Thanks 😊
@@tingtingzhang thanks! It is such an amazing piece, isn't it - once I've learned the first 4 'mini sections' contained within the 1st third of the piece - then it's just the magnificent middle part, then the first third is repeated! What a miraculous piece!
@@militaryandemergencyservic3286 Yes, the structure of the piece is incredibly simple, yet the artistic expressions are so profound! That's the magic of all his Impromptus!
Hi Dr. Zhang, it is a pleasantly surprise to stumble upon your videos here! Not sure if you still remember me…I studied with you when I was in the high school attached to Shenyang Conservatory around 10 years ago…!Hope all is well!
Hello 雪籍!It's WONDERFUL to hear from one of my former students back in China!! Of course I remember you!! Even though it was a short period of time, I was very impressed by your intelligence, talent, and dedication to music. Are you living/studying in the US now? Please feel free to shoot me an email at tingtingzhangpiano@gmail.com. I'd love to hear more from you and I wish you the best of luck in pursuing your dreams!
Hi @Tingting Zhang, thank you for this lesson! I am afraid my level is not high enough, but I absolutely love this piece and I would really like to be able to play it. The problem is, I only had rather informal piano lessons from 8yo to 13yo and I was never taught scales, arpeggios or harmony at all... Then I didn't always had a piano and never had lessons again... So I am 36yo now and I started again by myself about 3 years ago. I can play it, but not well, with mistakes, and I seem to have reached a plateau in my progression, I don't know how to improve anymore. I need to find a good piano teacher, obviously, but in the meantime, what would you recommend me to do? I bought a scales book etc but I am not sure how to practice..
Hi Claire, thank you for your sincere message. I am touched by your enthusiasm for piano playing! I totally understand your struggles. The online tutorials are valuable, however, they only address the most common problems. They can't replace the one-on-one personal instruction you get from a private piano lesson. Therefore, my first suggestion for you is if you have the time and budget, try to work with a piano teacher who can guide you through the process of learning a piece and give you instant feedback when something is wrong. This way you will be able to make consistent progress and get the support you need to overcome any challenge. Secondly, if your short-term goal is to be able to play this impromptu, then in addition to practicing scales and arpeggios on daily basis, you should learn some Sonatinas by Clementi, such as Op.36. Those are great introductory pieces to the Classical style. They help to develop your technique and are much more fun than the scales. 😊 Another set of pieces I used a lot with my students is the Burgmuller 25 Progressive Pieces, Op.100. They are miniature Romantic pieces, very charming. The pieces mentioned above will serve as the stepping stones which prepare you both technically and musically for something more challenging like this impromptu. Feel free to email me at tingtingzhangpiano@gmail.com if you have further questions.
