Thanks for posting this. I'd changed oil and filter but the same code kept on coming back. But now that I've re-set the service interval it's all good. Thanks again, much appreciated.
Great video. I have a 64 plate Trafic campervan 109,000miles, that I use as a daily driver as well so does a lot of short journeys unfortunately. Drives without fault for 7000-8000 miles and then I get a clicking from a relay and that’s my first warning that these lights are on there way. An oil change and forced regen by my chosen garage gets it sorted.
Should really avoid forced static reg gens unless absolutely necessary, can cause serious damage if done ever 7/8k just a word or warning. Always want to carry out regens on the move , you can do forced ones while on the move using the diagnostics
Good to see people being honest and giving the right help/advice well done sir 👍🏻👏 I work on a fleet of NV400 and navaras, ad blue system is shocking, had brand new vehicles with the light come on at 600 miles 💀😂
Hi Dan , i own a trafic 1600D I did a flush on my dpf and kept getting this code , it did keep coming back , garage said they had hlno idea why and i would need to have "advanced" diagnosis . You have saved me so much money , i reset the service , reset the code and bingo !!!!!! SUPERB!!!
Yeah this issue even trips the “so called” experts up lol. Appreciate the comment, didn’t think this video would do so well. You will probably enjoy my other videos 👍🏼
Very good explanation. I ve in garage a megane with same code a will follo your proceder as first rigeneration then will change oil motor (car has already run 12 thousand km) and in last will cancel service light so to cancel the errore oil diluition with diagnostic computer. Thanks.
Brilliant. My Vivaro 2.0 has this issue. Have been doing lots of local journeys. I will change the oil and get the garage to do a manual regen and reset service and dtc codes. Thanks, liked and subscribed.
Thanks Dan you advice was spot on mate thanks to you my van is running sweet now. Would never had a clue otherwise had i not seen this video keep up the good work m8
My traffic has had dpf sign coming up for about 2 years, code reads p253f oil degraded, tried regens, bought a code reader to wipe code, sometimes it stayed off for miles sometimes for months, tried dpf cleaners, etc last year I gave it an oil change and the code stopped, few weeks ago code came back so I've just oil changed it again, today, but dint know about resetting service until watching your video. So I just gone and done that too, even though service light wasn't on yet, said it still had 2000miles to go but my oil stinks. Hopefully it's cured now lol
Yes unfortunately these dilute the oil really quickly, especially when been used for urban use. Bar making the DPF disappear and getting it mapped out, there ain’t much that can be done
Hi friend, first of all thank you for your work. My vehicle is a 2019 model Dacia Sandero Stepway diesel. 1.5bluedci adblu. We cannot resolve the P253F fault. Engine oil and filter were changed, the error was cleared, the counter was reset, but the malfunction light is active 😔 We speak different languages, I understand you a little bit 😀. What could be another problem? I would be very happy if you could help me.
Great video. It sounds like what I'm experiencing on my 1.7d 2019 xtrail. Purchased the car 3 months ago, and it apparently had a full service. The oil service warning came on last week, yesterday the DPF full warning came on. Drove the car 100 miles yesterday assuming it would regen the DPF (dual carriageway journey at 70mph), however it hasn't and the engine management amber light came one. Am I correct to assume the DPF has cleaned off during the duel carriageway run? If I do an oil change, would this allow me to clear the faults? The car is running fine with no loss of power.
Yes the 1.6/1.7 are very similar units …. Think you could be having the same issues. No driving at 70mph won’t usually clear them sometimes….. regen consists of keeping the revs at around 2500/3000rpm usually in a manual 4th gear around 60/65mph, keep the revs steady no speeding up or slowing down (so choose quiet times) for 7+ miles continuously (use cruise control it helps) Made sure car up to temperature and plenty fuel in.
The DPF may not regen BECAUSE the metal tube, running from the upstream turbo sensor is blocked... clean it out then regen otherwise you could damage the DPF!
I have a Renault captur diesel and it had an oil change 6 months ago to clear some codes. I do a lot of local journies but I have been taking it out once a month as advised by garage and yourself to help reset it. Light came on but did go off after I did a long journey to see my family. Came back on again a day later and I checked oil and it is smoky bbq like you said. I’m just concerned that if I do need the oil change again, where does leave me with this car? Will I need to change the oil twice a year? Seems a bit bonkers to me. We got it 2nd hand with 13,000 miles on the clock and no record of oil changes in the log book. I’ve had it for just over a year and changed oil once and probably will need to do it again. Any advice appreciated
Unfortunately the honest truth…. Modern diesels simply do not work for local driving, it will be an ongoing issue, you will end off with very expensive DPF/EGR issues and possibly engine damage due to oil dilution. Sell it any buy petrol Toyota you will never look back 👍🏼
Hi, awesome video. I’ve done all of this. However still having the light coming on and the same error code as above. Alongside the fault code I’m having “implausible signal” it’s a Vauxhall Vivaro 1.6 ctdi 2018. It’s had a successful manual regen to. Any help would be gracious.
You have to be sure of making sure the service light resets correctly, as it’s very unclear when it’s shown as not requiring service (as in service required not showing active) Also need to reset oil dilution via special functions Thanks
Hi Dan, I’m only getting an oil deterioration error. Had a full service in the summer. Took it to the garage last week, cleared the error code for me but it came back on the next day. He said if it comes back on he’ll try clearing it through the computer and dashboard I think? 🤔 I’ve checked the oil, looks and smells fine. Could you advise on the next steps? Cheers
Tbh I have known these dilute the oil within a matter of months. If you have already tried, I would advise another oil change, reset the service (even though it’s displayed as ok) just do it again, then wipe the codes, should be fine after that
@@CarAddictGarageNE thanks mate. Had the oil and filter changed today and the mechanic said that the oil was very watery but didn’t know why. Did mention that it could be to do with the fuel injector 😬
@jakemccall6332 failed re gens that why, need to make sure you regularly regen the DPF and failed regens dumps diesel into the oil, hence you end off with oil dilution = bust engine
You mentioned nor being able to do this with a cheep odb2 code reader. Could I use the cheap one from euro parts to at least diagnosis the fault and clear it the first time for the regen?
Hi Dan, My Hyundai i40 that my wife drives on short trips, always the oil is diluted, would it help if I did a manual regenerate once a week, how often does the do a regenerate automatically? Thanks.
No you don’t want to be doing manual regens that’s often as you will totally dilute the oil. Tbh if all the car does is short trips don’t definitely DO NOT want a diesel with a DPF. Doing short journeys it will probably never regen correctly, thus blocking the DPF and having loads of failed regens causing oil dilution / permanent engine damage
Hi mate. We tried to do a re-gen on my 2014 renault trafic this evening, it's said it was to blocked to do so, do you think the foam cleaner would sort it out?
Hi mate, I need some help here. I'm a mechanic and I have in my workshop a renault trafic, with that error. The van arrived with a clogged dpf, I remove it and cleaned it, I changed the oil and filter, did the service reset (manually in the dashboard) but that error, oil diluition reappears after I erase it. Dumb as I am I changed the oil level sensor, because in the dashboard the oil level appears in the middle (3 dots out of 5) but the oil really is at the max. Changed the oil level sensor and still the same problem. And the error P253F won't disappear. I even reset the dpf values after cleaning it. But the error won't come off
This might seam really daft, but are you definitely sure the service light is fully re setting? As sometimes they look like they have, but they haven’t. Thanks
Hi Same error I got yesterday + I have check engine + yellow spanner lights on dashboard. I did have service information too due 1000miles now it's 300 miles. So now I should : -change again the oil +filter ( I have changed oil 1 month ago) -Go on motorway drive on 4th gear to regen. Dpf for 7-10 miles -Then reset service information -Then erase ecu fault code It's that correct? Cheers
@@CarAddictGarageNE thanks for replying. Do you know which diagnostic tool (to buy on Amazon mabye ) can erase this ecu fault code about oil dilution, and also will be able to force DPF regeneration? Thanks
@conradcullen8029 Use Autel MK808BT but that’s rather expensive for personal use I would say. TopDon do some cracking kit for reasonable prices but to do special functions you will be paying £200+

Usually yes as a lot of vehicles will not carry out regen if glow plugs are not all working.

Hi
Same error I got yesterday + I have check engine + yellow spanner lights on dashboard.
I did have service information too due 1000miles now it's 300 miles.
So now I should :
-change again the oil +filter ( I have changed oil 1 month ago)
-Go on motorway drive on 4th gear to regen. Dpf for 7-10 miles
-Then reset service information
-Then erase ecu fault code
It's that correct?

Yes it should work, but some can be more difficult than others.

That’s how you regen the DPF
2500/3000rpm constantly for 5+miles
Will this work for a vauxhall zafira 1.6 dtci? Many thanks
No not the Zafira, only the vivaro as it’s based on the Renault Traffic
Hi, I have a Renault Clio 3 dci 2011, yesterday there was p253f29, nothing helps, you said "need reprogram DPF". How to do it? Thank you!
It’s under special functions, you reset to oil saturation levels.
But usually follow that order should work.
@@CarAddictGarageNE I think I'll go to the electrician tomorrow. I only have ELM and PyClip on phone. Thank you!

@@CarAddictGarageNE as you said, the problem was solved by "replacing the DPF" through diagnostics. The forced regeneration was also done.
Yes you have to do that, but usually simply re setting service light cures it after oil change
