I get a big ol' grin seeing that dune buggy racer you finished up!
I can tell you that plastic specific paints exist, I stocked a LOT of it at Lowe's in my time, I think it was the Krylon brand, maybe Rustoleum.
My gut says not to use oil base paints unless you think four coats of primer will protect the plastic from those solvents/VOCs in the paint.
I hesitate to suggest water based paint because the last time you painted plastic with that, _you went and used the oven_ to cure the paint and ended up with a Shrinky-Dink car! 😂 "Paint's dry, boss! Going to lunch!" 😂
I think you were answering a bunch of your own questions here. Plastic pieces are a solid colour, every car with a plastic top has a metal base, etc. You know those Baja Bisons are all that way, plastic bodies, and folks painted those up at GTR.
I have to applaud you 👏 🙌 on giving that car four thin primer coats total with a rattle can and you still have all the details preserved like door seams and such!
Silver with black accents are my choices 💯😎🏁

I almost fell off my bar stool.
Still laughing about that. Paint's dry Boss...
Thanks for the comments. Eyes still wet from laughing. Going on vacation soon so I'm posting a lot of videos that are in the Cache. Posting part 2 now, and the spring update behind the scenes tomorrow. Thanks man.

Flat Grey primer works well on a lot of applications. That little mark will drive you crazy. You can use whatever color you want my friend. I don't hold patent on any of them. 😂 I do suggest waiting a couple of days before taping off the car. Paint hates bonding to plastic. (Before adding the next color) great video bud.

A black pearl with dual silver racing strips would be sweet. But I don't think that's inline with SST themes (fruity deserts).

Well your most usual colours for SST is Red White and blue.
Somehow I dont think you are a rainbow kind of guy!
    How about black and tangerine?
    Dune buggy looks good!
    Cheers

Well, Remember, this is an experiment. So I will see what colors I have, Take into consideration all suggestions, paint it, and put it in the car case.

not sure what you mean by "regular" primer?
I use Tamiya plastic model primer, 2X primer and sometimes chea pass automotive primer in white, black or grey... depending on what I can get at walmart or the auto parts store. I can say I am not a fan of the 2X as it goes wrinkly quite often and you never know when or why!

Primer that DOES NOT say for plastic. why do I need to buy that? Thanks.

@@sstdiecastracing2372 You do not specifically... we never had it growing uo and building models but often we chose the primer based on the top coat and not necessarily the substrate... here is a blurb from an article I found...
Tips For Choosing The Right Primer For Plastic Models
When selecting a primer for your plastic models, it's important to consider the specific characteristics of the plastic material and the desired finish. Here are some tips to help you choose the right primer:
      Choosing primer color:
Consider using a white or light gray primer for light-colored plastic models.
Use a black or dark gray primer for dark-colored plastic models.
If you're unsure, a neutral gray primer works well for most plastic models.
      Different types of primers available:
Acrylic primers: These are versatile, easy to use, and compatible with most plastic materials.
Enamel primers: These provide a durable finish but require longer drying times.
Lacquer primers: These dry quickly and provide excellent adhesion but require proper ventilation due to strong fumes.
Can I Use Regular Spray Paint As A Primer For Plastic Models?
Using regular spray paint as a primer for plastic models is an alternative priming method. Pros include convenience and a wide range of color options. Cons include potential compatibility issues and less durability compared to specialized primers.
