I believed I found the one video on my channel that is causing the issue. On September 6th, 7th and 8th, it had several large spikes in views. When I check the source of these videos, almost 50% of them are coming from "TH-cam Advertising." Which I am told could be other sites using my video for ads. My channel had a sharp decline in revenue on September 10th, just two days after these spikes in views from this video. I have since made the video private as well as checked the box that prevents others from using my videos unless they are linked. Hoping this helps!
Many many TH-camrs got hit with the invalid traffic bug all at the same time. The invalid traffic bug for someone else that I follow started August 31st and ended on September 27th. They didn't do anything on their end. TH-cam simply restored everything back to normal. So you're probably fine to republish the videos that you had unlisted.
Same- it hit me from August-September then went back up. Then hit in December. Then went back up. Now since March it’s plummeted again except for occasional bounces of 1-2 days.
I just got hit today with this. I've known about this for months and hoped I wouldn't be. I took it a step further and deleted any suspicious ones. I found one where Gmail was 83% of my views on 47k views. I've been going out this for hours now. Also removing the embedding on every single video.
I'm currently dealing with the same issue, and I swear I was crying, almost having a complete breakdown because Adsense is my only income these days. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I do find it sad how TH-cam is no help with this issue, especially for us small creators. Thank you so much for this video! Oh and have you seen a change since you unlisted your those particular videos?

I'm so happy that you got your revenue back!!! I've had a channel for awhile but have just been using it for my clients. However, I'm about to switch focus and will be uploading my first video soon for a new audience with the goal of monetization. This invalid traffic issue has caused me great concern regarding any possible reliable future as a TH-cam content creator. I've watched many videos on this subject, and you are THE ONLY person who actually had *Valid* information to share. Thank you for sharing :) I hope those who have been affected will find this info and hopefully it'll be applicable for their resolution.
Great tips! But in my case, I have more than 600 videos on my channel. What seems to work for me is that I turned off the EMBED option on all my TH-cam videos. My thought was that if someone is doing this, they are not sending fake traffic directly to the TH-cam platform but instead to websites with embedded content so they can monetize through Adsense. I've already seen this kind of tool.
Creators should be able to prevent certain countries from viewing content. It seems like every time I hear about scams it originates from 3 locales. You mentioned 2 I think.
Watching a number of videos on this subject. One common factor I noticed was the traffic that came from the Philippians. I wonder if there was a malicious program set out from the Philippians that affected various creator sites? Just wondering. I think you’re idea of deleting those two videos to stop traffic was a good one. I hope that resolution continues to work for you. I also hope other creators are able to find your channel to share in your insights. I’m a new creator myself and also had a big spike in views in August, however after checking all the things you mentioned I think I’m in the clear. Most of my viewers came from the U.S. But, after listening to your points I too will keep an eye on things.
This is wild, the video I watched before this had the same issue with the Philippines… there’s definitely something going on over there. I do not have any traffic from there tho. I investigated my analytics heavy and I found nothing. I literally just turned on monetization last week.. this is unbelievable. Thank you for making this video! It was really good and insightful.
I'm happy for you and thanks for the useful info. I think my invalid traffic problem is similar but I need to do a different solution. I have a video with over 2 million views that has continuing traffic and generates more than $200 a month in ad revenue (before the invalid traffic issue it was around $500 a month). It has majority traffic from English speaking countries like the US and Canada, but significant traffic also from the Philippines and India plus also Malaysia, Pakistan, etc. Like you, I think it is these developing countries that are the source of the problem. But I cant just delete a video that makes $200 a month even with the invalid traffic issue. I have other videos with less traffic and making less money each month but also still earning good money. I am going on vacation shortly, but after I return I am going to go to TH-cam and see if I cant just block 4 or 5 of these developing nation traffic sources. My RPM from the English speaking countries I think is fine but I suspect that the RPM for the developing nations is very low. I'm hoping that if I can block them, it will resolve my problem.
Interesting. Sorin from Electronics Repair School channel said he correlated the Invalid Traffic on his channel with people using adblockers while viewing his content. He asked people to stop using adblockers for his channel and the problem went away. What might be happening on your channel is that the people from India and Philippines might be using adblockers, that might explain why the RPM is low but the views are high. TH-cam has been cracking down on the use of Adblockers and as a result their algorithm is getting more aggressive with detecting "invalid traffic". Thanks for making this video.
But why is that being counted as invalid traffic? I still don't get what the issue is. If they watch and use adblockers, they wont see any ads to click.
@@siriusjones956 TH-cam loses money when people use adblockers and don't watch ads. TH-cam has made it very clear that they don't want people using adblockers. This is how they detect adblockers in the algorithm. They can call it whatever they want, but they want to call it invalid traffic.

Good video! However I think it may have just been a coincidence in this case... here's why: I noticed the same pattern on a couple of my older videos as you have just pointed out, and unlisted them. (this was about 4 weeks ago, a few weeks into my own Invalid Traffic issue). Nothing happened. Then, weeks later, on the same date you saw your revenue start to rise again, so did mine. But I hadn't done anything for weeks to try and fix it. There seems to be a pattern with this whole invalid traffic issue, where by a lot of creators seems to be affected on the same date, and have their channel recover at a similar time frame. I personally think that either YT are dealing with it in 'batches' of creators at a time, which explains why there seems to be clusters of users that share often the exact same time frame as others, when it comes to the problem either starting, or recovering. Glad it has turned around for you! :
Thank you for sharing the video. But one question: The unlisted videos will be remain unlisted or you are going to publish them again? My channel has the issue but with lots of efforts so far nothing changed :(
I plan to keep them unlisted. They were older videos that had very very low RPM anyways, so I think i'd do better if I just filmed them to my current quality standards.
From your explanation , I think youtube should truly come and explain such. Let's remember youtube isn't only made for Americans !! It's a global portal where anyone from every where could watch. Probably the algorithm started pushing your videos to the Asian world because they watched it a lot based on those videos and there's nothing wrong with that. Other than TH-cam now coming up with a bias system of format, I stand to be corrected . But technically you are rather being punished for people from Asia watching your videos. There is a bias somewhere that TH-cam truly needs to investigate rather than lowering Adsense. Creators have no hand in who watches their video . These disadvantaged pegs should be clearly addressed by TH-cam. Just see the RPM in the United States compared to the ones in Asia. Yet still TH-cam will be running ads saying Say no to racism. Well, let me go back to my motorcycles.

good video @madeonsundays and great detective work in identifying a possible source of the invalid traffic. My channel also has 1 video with a huge spike in views from Phillippines and my ban lasted 3 - 4 months and then went back to normal
If they gas light you and tell you to fix your own invalid traffic even though they are still running adds and making money, just simply shut down all your videos so they can not make money while stealing your commission. If enough creators do this, you tube will have no choice but to stop stealing your hard earned commissions.
Although this is helpful, there is no reason why you should have to unlist your videos for traffic you are not responsible for. I'm going through the same thing right now and it's infuriating that it is the creator's problem to somehow control traffic from invalid sources. I'm one person sitting on my computer with no possible means of control ... TH-cam is the video host with billions of dollars and thousands of employees... perhaps if they can detect invalid traffic then they can also determine the problem and clearly see that it is not the creator driving this nonsense traffic. They can remove that traffic and allow the creator to keep their hard earned revenue without punishment. For them it's just easier to lay the blame on the creator and then continue to roll ads and they keep all of the revenue.
I watch a bunch of channels from guys who retired to the Philippines and live there now, and weirdly enough not a single one of them has reported this bug.
If you understand this i speak tagalog Philippine language, mas masakit ang nangyari sa youtube channel ko.
Good video but I think you missed the point: it’s not the rpm or the country where the traffic come from to define as a red flag. Simply what you treated in the video is a topic that is searched in emergent countries like India and Philippines and for this reason they have a low rpm. And this is absolutely not a red flag. About the weird website yes, I can agree with you and maybe was stopping the traffic from that websites that has helped you to recover your revenue.

oh man... I have 600+ videos on my channel. :(
yeah i’ve noticed certain viewers like to post my videos on their website i wish there was a way to block it from happening but anyway great video 👍🏾
Any updates? Has your channel had any issues since then?
Also thank you for making this video and speaking out! I’ve been hit by the same issue and it’s super frustrating.
I was actually hit with the bug again about a month ago, but used the same technique here again and it was restored a few days later.
Do they provide a way to restrict traffic to US. Maybe this way you would not have to monitor all your video traffic sources...
I had this issue granted im a smaller channel still an just recently got monetized, but had invalid traffic an i didn't know where it was coming from but i tried this we'll see if my revenue is fixed youtube told me it takes up to 7 days for them to lift the flag.
Thank you, for this very helpful I have the same problem but I also have over 3,500 videos.
good video @madeonsundays and great detective work in identifying a possible source of the invalid traffic.
You fix them by unlisting those videos?
I watch a bunch of channels from guys who retired to the Philippines and live there now, and weirdly enough not a single one of them has reported this bug.
This doesn’t matter. It’s not where you are located but where your traffic come from that matters.
How do I know when invalid traffic is resolve on my channel?
Did you check the videos that you unlisted, get back to their normal revenue?
It's unlisted...so there's no traffic going to those videos anymore
thank you. i tried this and worked ✨✨✨✨🙏🙏
Great information! 👍
It’s been 8 days with no revenue for me messaged TH-cam they say I just have to wait but for how long
so sorry to hear that! That's sucks. Mine stopped for about a month
Thanks it’s so annoying
Did You Received Your Old Payments
Why is your rpm so high?
What about popular videos that this is happening too. Enlisting destroys the algorithm
hi, so how much are making money now from ads? :)
That is great news you can't trust anything especially online congratulations...
If you understand this i speak tagalog Philippine language, mas masakit ang nangyari sa youtube channel ko.
So not your fault. The ads they put on your video is attracting a lot of views, therefore it’s their responsibility why you are getting traffic.
Good video but I think you missed the point: it’s not the rpm or the country where the traffic come from to define as a red flag. Simply what you treated in the video is a topic that is searched in emergent countries like India and Philippines and for this reason they have a low rpm. And this is absolutely not a red flag.
About the weird website yes, I can agree with you and maybe was stopping the traffic from that websites that has helped you to recover your revenue.
thank you very much
can you cut the yapping please
so i watch someone elses channel to much i can destroy them? like i wanted to, wtf is that xD
unlist video, how can others see your video? How can you make money if you can't see the video?
Are you pinay ? Can u understand tagalog languages thank you
I’m real lol
Hey @nicknimnin does turn on this protect my channel from invalid traffic
So happy to hear you fixed this issue - it's wild that you had to go through all of this investigation yourself and that YT wasn't able to support with this. Would you mind sharing which camera you use? I love the crystal clear and crisp look! 🤎
Thank you ! I film with the Sony ZV-E10
