Vanessa Bayer is awesome for not breaking her character when everyone else did
She actually did, but they were quite small.
She's got this ability to smile right through breaking so you don't notice so much. Except for that ride sketch, I think.
She was on a probation period at the time of this sketch. She was trying her hardest to stay in character during her first days at SNL
To be fair, she was pretty bummed out about not winning the showcase.
She’s good at hiding it even in other skits
And after all that, Vanessa STILL didn't break!! She's incredible!
i think it's even funnier because she totally stayed in character while everyone else was dying
At 2:15 she breaks
It's because it was her first season and she was terrified of being fired. None of them break in their first couple of seasons. They are all scared of lorne

When Maya said "tickle tickle" at 2:37 Kristen's face was like "why'd you have to go and say that, I'm barely keeping it together here" then proceeds to absolutely lose it

I love how Kristen just couldnt hold her laugh mainly because of Maya's funny accent..
Just after Maya goes "tickle tickle!" and tickles the chicken Kristen shoots her a look like, "oh great, how am I supposed to hold it together now?"

Well, Maya kept changing her accent every time she opened her mouth. No wonder Kristen lost it!
THANK YOU for relieving my distress. I couldn't believe Kate was ever this bad. Knowing it was Kristen totally explains why this bit isn't funny. So glad she's off the show. All those years, all that disproportionate screen time, so few laughs.

RIGHT? I was waiting for that the whole skit! The only thing I could think of is "neuf is french for what?" because neuf is french for nine, while boeuf is french for beef.
The joke is (and I can't believe I'm explaining this) that the contestant is very stupid. The question might have been "How many muses are there in Greek mythology?". The correct answer is "nine", the contestant guessed "beef".

I think it's the only time SNL sktches are actually funny, when they break character. But this one in particular was funny.

Especially when they don't often crack. It does get old when they break often, like Jimmy Fallon.

If people like Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolf are breaking character, it's gonna be an epic sketch. Its also why SNL has been on the air for so long. It's the only show thats actually LIVE. This is comedy at its finest. We _know_ they're having fun.

You must be on more drugs than the original cast. Kristen was one of the least talented performers they ever had, yet they gave her more screen time than anybody for years. Good riddance.
This might be my favorite Maya Rudolph sketch ever. When she yells, "FORE!" with that accent-- too hilarious.

Still one of the top 5 sketches EVER. Vanessa, who NEVER broke - like, ever - almost lost it. I don't know how she looked at Bill Hader when HE was losing it and she STILL didn't break - smiled, but didn't break. And with all that commotion, she deserved an Emmy for _not_ losing it!
It almost looks like Maya's "Tickle tickle!" was ad-libbed, because Wiig almost broke and looked surprised when she said it.
It had to be cause she still had another line and Kristen looked at her like she was about to break
How is it that Vanessa Meyer didn't laugh in this sketch. She's the only one into character and good at staying in character without laughing.
because it was her first season and she was too terrified to break in case she'd be fired. The others knew they were set for life there so were more chilled out. Plus Kristen Wiig rarely ever broke. Hader constantly broke.

to this day i still don't know if the crashing into the backdrop was actually part of the sketch or not.
It broke too easily for it not to have been planned.
@@davidsinnott1894 they're props, they're not supposed to be especially sturdy, so of course they'll fall apart easily. But the big giveaway is when Bill said right after the backdrop crash, "Well THAT wasn't supposed to happen." So no, the crash was not planned.... 🤣

I wonder, too, because of Maya's face when she hits. It's clearly a spontaneous "OMG" reaction. But unless the dialogue was ad libbed after (which it actually could have been, or altered) I suspect *something* was supposed to happen there, just not maybe that. I do know Maya wasn't supposed to be chasing her around for the clock, based on what I understood Bill and Seth talking about on Seth's show.

i love how if this had been done without laughing it would have just gotten mild laughs but the audience died cause of how 3/4 actors lost it 😂😂

Vanessa is such a champ. Everyone else loses it at some point, and she keeps it together. You see just the slight hint of her breaking, but I love that she always stays in character, even when everyone else gets sloppy.

Luggage Guy, Chicken Man, Golf Club Guy and Clockenfrau are all now multi-billion dollar global companies owned by Shonda. Vonda’s head is preserved in a sealed jar of formaldehyde and adorns the lobby at Pebble Beach Resort.

In the beginning, Kristens character was Vanda, but in the end, Maya called her Shanda, they swapped names! xD
I seriously doubt, that this sketch passed the dress rehearsal without crack ups.
And a big compliment to Vanessa, she hold it.
Vanessa didn't break because this was her first season and she was terrified in case she was fired. Maya, Kristen, Bill know they were never gonna be fired so could relax a bit more
+jumpforjoy6 I think a big part of it is how well you know people too. I think I could do that pretty easily with an acquaintance, but with a close friend, fuggeddaboutit
+jumpforjoy6 This aired in 2012. Bayer joined SNL in 2010. Some people may be a lot better at holding it in that others, like Will Ferrell for instance.

I've watched this one so many times and I still come back to relive it and die of laughter.
Every time someone says "beef" "years after years" "golf" "clock" "chicken" "luggage" I automatically hear this sketch!
It makes day to day life difficult when I'm around people that haven't seen this!
