Idk if it makes sense but it reminds me of the Black Friday freestyle. Something about it being long a long verse where he changes cadence a lot and is going for it. Also not on an album and big moment
J. Cole is part of the big three, no one can replace Cole there, Kendrick better concept, Cole better lyrics, Drake better hit maker. Cole deserves more respect and love, people just hate him because they ignorant.
Nah there’s a bit a revisionism on Cole here tbh. It wasn’t suddenly in April that people decided he wasn’t that good. That’s been a conversation for a long time. Whether he belongs in the big 3 or not (personally I would say no), the debate didn’t just start this year.
I think he more means that it’s became a lot more popular and people were making less intelligent arguments for why Cole isn’t big 3 since April this year. But there definitely were some discussions beforehand, but every rapper has people that think are slightly overrated
I literally was arguing with my brother last night and he said that j. Cole "hot take" and I argued every single point you made. And I'm so glad somebody has a brain to put things in context cause recency bias from one beef is completely bias. If J. Cole drops a full project tomorrow people are gonna flock to it

Old Tyler hate is unfounded. Even in his early years he had a huge impact on the game, on Supreme as a brand, founded his own rap group and didn't have a single album that was below average. He produced for famous artists, produced all of his own music and had a completely unique style that no one else had. Has obviously collabed with very notable legends even in the early days. The only reason that critics like to hate his early work is because of his subject matter. That's why he was never able to get as popular as he should have. So the only thing he lacked was popularity.
Travis Scott is this generation’s Kanye. He has discovered don toliver, teezo touchdown, nav, and multiple rappers who are big today along with having top tier albums / mixtapes since owl pharaoh (aside from the quavo one which isn’t rlly his discography)

The college dropout and Ksg and late registration and YE are perfect. I don’t think Ye is 10/10 but there’s no skips on that album and it’s one of the most consistent listening experience on any project.
I’ve never looked at The Big 3 convo as “the three best rappers” or “the three best catalogues”. More so just a mix of everything. Mainstream appeal, catalogue, lyricisms, hits, etc. Because personally I think if we are basing the Big 3 of the 2010s simply on catalogue and substance I’d argue NOBODY is in the same convo as Kendrick.
Imo Travis is the only rapper you could swap J Cole for, but because he came up mid 2010s he probably doesn't qualify for big 3, even though he's massive, has 2 2010s classics and a legendary catalogue

He can switch between poems like sing about me, and has a great feature run like with baby keem, schoolboy Q, and tde Andre 3000- best group of all time, first and only rap album to win album of the year, 4th or 5th most Grammys from a rapper, amazing feature run since interlude by lil Wayne, very experimental with his jazz album that he dropped Nas- best rap album of all time, top tier flow, came up with biggie and Tupac, been rapping for 30 years and he’s still get nominated for Grammys, kings desease and magic series are great, his first 6 albums are amazing to perfect MF DOOM- most experimental artist of all time, second best rap album of all time (madvillainy) still going until he passed, mm… food and madvillainy being the most experimental albums of that era and you don’t see many people rapping like him anymore
SO VALID biggie and tupac are good but they don’t have the longevity of these rappers you listed since they are dead. if they were alive it would be different

I think the perfect and 10/10 argument can be divided between classic and perfect A classic album can’t have a song or two that misses or doesn’t change well but it doesn’t change how amazing the album is and what it does with impact and etc. but when we talk 10/10 or perfect, when curry shoots 7/9 that’s not perfect when he shoots 9/9 that’s perfect
College dropout, twisted fantasy and Yeezus are all perfect albums to me. I love new workout plan. Saying the second half of Fantasy drops off is insane bro, while technically true, it goes from a perfect ++ first half to a just perfect second half. Yeezus, is a tight conceptual project, absolutely trailblazing a new sound, sounding immaculate, and no fat to trim. Dude gold digger is an amazing song, I thought it aged amazing bro. Just a banger every time it comes on. It defined a pop era along with songs like stronger. Bro was running hip hop and pop at the same time don’t hate.
I think that future’s influence, consistency and cultural significance out weighs what cole has done. Future helped boost Atlanta into arguably the top 3 cities in the world for rap. He created his own sound and when everyone copied it, he kept evolving his sound which helped him become one of the most developed artists in the genre. And in terms of the sheer amount of good songs in a catalogue, you’d be hard pressed to find a rapper that would beat future.

You should check out his music if you like Earl Sweatshirt, Aesop Rock, JID, JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, Billy Woods, Kendrick Lamar and MF DOOM.

Death grips is better than any artist who started at the 2010s decade and the 2020s decade, also I'm saying this because Kendrick started in the 2000s

Idk if it makes sense but it reminds me of the Black Friday freestyle. Something about it being long a long verse where he changes cadence a lot and is going for it. Also not on an album and big moment

Rocky should be on the 2010s mount rushmore

I’ve never looked at The Big 3 convo as “the three best rappers” or “the three best catalogues”. More so just a mix of everything. Mainstream appeal, catalogue, lyricisms, hits, etc. Because personally I think if we are basing the Big 3 of the 2010s simply on catalogue and substance I’d argue NOBODY is in the same convo as Kendrick.
Kanye, Drake, Future, Thug, Uzi, and even Nicki with her trash discography is a contender cuz of her impact on all the new girls....
That T-shirt is hard af Lou, Reservoir dogs is top tier 🔥
Imo Travis is the only rapper you could swap J Cole for, but because he came up mid 2010s he probably doesn't qualify for big 3, even though he's massive, has 2 2010s classics and a legendary catalogue

im sick of people justifying carti by saying "rap has evolved". if this is what rap has evolved into rap is doomed

Listen to carti for the vibes and the energy
HIS MUSIC SOUNDS GOOD if you dont like it Thats fine But saying he is one of the worst rappers is crazy and i dont want to listen to crazy storytelling and quadruple entandras all the time.Carti makes great music and saying *HIs lYriCs aRe BaD* when his music has no focus on lyrics Thats just stupid
Rap shouldn't always be super lyrical. What makes Carti so talented is he makes his voice bounce on any beat and make it sound catchy
Carti listened to Thug and thought, "what if they understood me even less"
Hot take: biggie and Tupac aren’t top 5 (imo)
Tupac and biggie are just outside in my opinion but here’s why:
Kanye- best catalog of all time (we don’t talk about vultures) all time production, most (if not most then one of) the most marketable artist all time
Kendrick- having two top 5 rap albums of all time (good kid and tpab) and three great albums like damn, section 80 and mmatbs. He can switch between poems like sing about me, and has a great feature run like with baby keem, schoolboy Q, and tde
Andre 3000- best group of all time, first and only rap album to win album of the year, 4th or 5th most Grammys from a rapper, amazing feature run since interlude by lil Wayne, very experimental with his jazz album that he dropped
Nas- best rap album of all time, top tier flow, came up with biggie and Tupac, been rapping for 30 years and he’s still get nominated for Grammys, kings desease and magic series are great, his first 6 albums are amazing to perfect
MF DOOM- most experimental artist of all time, second best rap album of all time (madvillainy) still going until he passed, mm… food and madvillainy being the most experimental albums of that era and you don’t see many people rapping like him anymore
SO VALID biggie and tupac are good but they don’t have the longevity of these rappers you listed since they are dead. if they were alive it would be different

I think the perfect and 10/10 argument can be divided between classic and perfect
A classic album can’t have a song or two that misses or doesn’t change well but it doesn’t change how amazing the album is and what it does with impact and etc. but when we talk 10/10 or perfect, when curry shoots 7/9 that’s not perfect when he shoots 9/9 that’s perfect
