The Rio Grande 5644 is a special model for me as I operated the real 5644 when it was owned by Glenn Monhart and leased to shortlines in Southern Wisconsin in the 1980's. I have both the powered A and B units and very pleased with them. Thanks for the great review James!!!
Great looking F-units, great review. I would love to own BLI sets like these. However, I drained my wallet and bank account recently buying four Overland Models lnc HO scale brass F-3 and F-7 A-B-A sets. I am very pleased to own these sets. I really admire the BLI models in this review, I won't be looking to add them to my train collection in the near future. My wallet and bank account are safe, for now. 😊
The forward roof panel was for the dynamic brake fan, the rear panel was for the steam generatior which heated passenger trains prior to HEP. A blank panel indicates the absence of such accessories.
That Rio Grande Unit looks fantastic. My problem with any of the "silver" F units in smaller scales is the paint. Those side panels were polished stainless. I get that replicating that is difficult in small scales. My CZ trainset is all painted silver. Instead of having the semi mirror finish.
Both A-B model sets look fabulous. I wouldn't mind owning a set from BLI. But, I already own the really expensive Overland Models HO brass versions. Actually, I own two "F-3" A-B-A sets and 1 "F-7" A-B-A set. Can't afford to go after the BLI models. But, I really enjoyed the review, though. 👍 Great review!

Rio grande F7 was definitely worth the wait and it looks amazing. Only regret I have is cheaping out and not getting the matching B unit
