I'm someone who grew up with an ipod and use one to this day. I can see spotify as way to listen to music hassle free without commitment, but I don't like the ads, the subscription for the benefits, or just the general lack of availibilty of certain music you may not find. It feels hostile and the amount of crap I get for not using it astounds me. I refuse to pay $9.99+ dollars to keep a sub like that on. It's a waste of my money with what i've accumulated over the years. I still go through the extra tedious effort on getting my songs on my ipod than use spotify, whether by purchasing CDs and ripping them or just buying the one song and then dance around the locked file system so that I can play it without account locks on a new computer. Certain songs you couldn't even purchase on a cd or even the single song so you had to rely on downloading (covers of songs, one-off promotional songs the artist would drop on an exclusive cd that wasn't available, live concert versions that you might prefer the instrumentation that was recorded by someone with a really good seat, etc). I don't mind the process, but it can be a challenge with the current internet landscape of today. In my opinion, streaming services like spotify just feel too limited in the experience of listening to music for me to really utilize it. I still begrudgingly use youtube from time to time on the road, but only for songs that I have yet to add to the ipod that I'm in the mood for.
This is what I used Apple Music for for a few years. Tbh I might switch back to Apple Music cuz Spotify is kinda bad. I've also been using iPods and listening to MP3s and CDs so streaming music has become less prevalent for me
Almost all their ads in their Free version are those "Boo-hoo, Ads are so baad, better buy Spotify Premium if you don't want to hear this message after 3 songs anymore :)" A blend between Adware and Nagware, gee
one huge problem ive encountered alot too in spotify is people impersonating as an artist who doesn't have their stuff on spotify, either they pulled all of their stuff out from there at some point or just never intended to stream their music there, overall ive also seen just some artist stealing eachothers songs too
Streaming music may be the way things are now but I still don't use it or like it. Maybe if I had of grown up streaming I would, but music files and physical copies on vinyl and cd are how I consume music. I find streaming to be annoying, I know i'm in the minority on this one.
After finishing the video I must say two things. Thank you for explaining things without bias. Secondly, Spotify is a solid solution to the problem of piracy. I understand the premium price is not great and Spotify could compensate artists better and leaves artists with little choice (since Spotify is strong as a company and many people use it including me) but that is how things are right now, it just works out. And your conclusion is perfect; many people desire to listen to music without the inconvenience of long download times, paying too much money or getting a virus on your device
I hate them for paying almost nothing to the artists, yet they can pay $100 million+ for a podcast that the majority of Spotify users don't actually listen to. Their sound quality also sucks, even at its highest quality.
Time for a grumpy old man comment..... Have you ever wondered why it costs $400 to go to a concert? Tickets used to be cheap. Spotify doesn't pay the artists anything. Musician's have to give away their music. They make all of their money from ticket sales. It used to be the other way round.
I'm so glad I stumbled across this channel, every video is an absolute banger! I cant believe you guys are under 100k subs, im sure thats gunna climb quickly though
But what about Spotify's stranglehold on the Billboard charts here in America? Thanks to that, an artist's whole album can chart in the singles chart - even the filler material and b-sides! There's barely any one-hit wonders that deserve the title, since they can get another hit single thanks to Spotify; or, as I like to call it: digital payola!
Spotify is the perfect app for listeners. For musicians it's a knife in the stomach. You are forced to be on it because that is were the listeners are.. but i can promise you that not a single artist on Spotify is happy with their earnings. They have raised the price of the app for consumers without increasing our payout once. It was shit 10 years ago but the payout hasn't increased for inflation at all so we are basically losing 4-9% of our income every year. At this point the only person making money of my musical rights is Daniel.
I love Spotify. I don't care if multimillionaire artists are mad that they don't get millions from it. I'm sure they'll live. I also would never listen to Taylor Swift anyway

Spotify couldnt care less about current users. It keeps removing features and then forcing others that no one wants. You constantly end up listening to the same songs regardless of the playlist. Then they send out surveys that are only about plans and how much would you pay. They don't care what you think about ther service itself. I've been getting more and more sick of them and have been considering jumping ship finally.
I only use spotify to give a artist a listen to see if I like them or not if I do like them I will buy the cd and also for recommendations but I mainly use cds cause better sound, retroactive censorship, supports the artists better, and cool artwork and liner notes, (for example the liner notes for the first screaming jets album they give special thanks to the baby animals and mortal sin )

Something very important about Spotify has that no one has considered in this video. Before streaming or downloading music, there was very few access to music. In 1995 you had to really what the cd store was selling which was limited. Now you have a huge library of music from artists and albums that are accessible now, lot of underground music that has a new audience
Little detail, during the early years of Spotify, it was completely free where there was no song time limits, no ads between songs and didn't need an account to play music. L That's what attracted to me till they did all that and I gave up on it, and that was like 2014?
Music being free and music being valueless can be mutually exclusive. Swift is saying she thinks music should have a monetary value. Music intrinsically has value, as it's one of the main methods people have used to pass down knowledge or entertain each other since we lived in huts. If music had no value, the industry wouldn't be as big as it is today. Spotify could certainly stand to compensate their artists better (the whole industry needs to treat their artists better), but let's not pretend making music free makes it valueless.
Growing up I stuck with cd's (including portable cd-players) all the way up until roughly 2006, by which time I briefly switched for the simple mp3-player. I was averse to Apple products right from the start, so I never had itunes or any other of their products (except for that brief time I had an iphone 3, which I thoroughly hated.) By that time I already had a huge cd collection with not nearly as big a need to buy more music, so it was easier and much cheaper for me back then to just upload my cd's onto my computer and put them into my mp3-player. Then in 2009 was the year I got Spotify. Being a Swede, it was available much sooner here in Sweden, and that was when my music listening habits became truly digital. Since then, I still use only Spotify. And I guess I can't claim to hate it since I've been loyal to it for what is it... 14 years? The ever-changing features can be kinda annoying at times though. And the fact that it took them a really long time to offer a "repeat one song" feature was kinda frustrating (as most mp3-players and cd-players had that feature) although not impossible to get around, as I would create playlists with just one song added five times.
Honestly I prefer Apple Music to Spotify and if I'm truly a fan of an artist I will go out of my way to either pay for a download or physical media. I don't know whether it's because Apple Music streams lossless but the audio quality on Apple Music is WAY better than Spotify's. I bet it's the same way for Tidal and Quobuz. Spotify just sounds way too compressed for my ears and honestly sometimes sounds like the music is distant or even muffled. And this doesn't even get into the ethical side of what Spotify has done to the economics of the music business. So yeah I'm not a fan of Spotify as I value audio quality very highly if I plan to use a streaming service. And when something sometimes sounds like your listening to music through a drain at the bottom of a sink, then I won't be a fan.
Well, I don't have a portable device to play CDs or records anymore so idk what else I'm supposed to use lmao If I can't play it on my phone, I can't play it. My computer has a CD drive that's never been used ever and will continue to not be used because I can't carry my PC around and listen to my music, you know. I started on Rhapsody, if anyone remembers that. I think Spotify actually bought them, which is why I ended up with it in the end. So, in short, how else am I supposed to find out music even exists if I don't stream it? Physical copies are great and all if you can actually play them, but I don't have that functionality. I don't have money to buy every album every artist ever releases just to listen to a few of the songs I actually like, but I can spare $12 a month on a general service to get all I need. Yes, I suppose we're all spoiled from the modern era, but it's an adapt-or-die situation. I literally can't listen to music any other way and money is tight. I hate TH-cam, if I'm honest, but here I am. It's free. So is my adblocker. Where else am I supposed to watch videos from actual people, ie not movies or shows? If everyone boycotted TH-cam tomorrow, where would this channel be? Out of business? Homeless? Hoping another platform pops up that people find out about and start using and find them there? There are, like, three or four places music from the artists I like are streamed; spotify is one of them --- always. I only learn about new releases because Spotify told me a new album dropped. I only hear new music because Spotify put it on a playlist their algorithm matched to what I've been listening to this month. I don't social media. I don't have friends. So, there goes word of mouth, huh? I'd never know about certain artists or that my favorite artists released a new record after four years if I didn't have Spotify. I wish they compensated artists better but I have no arms in this battle; without Spotify I basically don't have music. Adapt or die.
I had the zune and the zune software and it was a cheaper alternative to Spotify. $69.99 a year with unlimited music downloads and unlimited music streaming (if you had fast enough Internet). Zune Pass disagrees
Spotify is the best the only thing is that begind is a man that doesn't lesent to us the users.
Spotify have all the music that i lisent to. Not like Pandora that dosent have all my fav artist
Pheuk Taylor Swift and her so called music!😮
Apple Music will always be SUPERIOR.
💀
Lool, who even buys music? Why would you ever use this hunk of junk of this app? 😂 just download whatever you listen to and you wouldn't need a constant internet connection.
TH-cam music is BETTER
What’s up with the fake vocal fry and uptalk?
All this music player app nonsense and lawsuits when you could just make aTH-cam playlist or download the songs to a flashdrive/your computer.
Or just apk the damn app you bozo
If low quality is your thing, then keep doing that
@@sirdorkster Some sites can download TH-cam at 320 kbps, which is excellent sounding. Even 128 kbps still sounds fine. We really take for granted how good modern music compression is
@@ambiarock590128 kps 😮
As an avid juice wrld unreleased fan, I can't use Spotify cuz they don't have any of them, plus Musi is way better.
because they are unreleased so why would spotify add them
@@torontobluejays6668 ik thats why I don't use Spotify
@@sriavula If you really support the artist, you'll buy their music
@@sirdorkster I support juice not the label
@@sriavula Ik
Many of us are making a decent living on Spotify.
Artists make money by PERFORMING, not selling copies of their music.
These days
Japan proves that you can actually legislate away from piracy.
Oh no the people with no real jobs and should grateful they get any money for their art might have to go do shows for extra income which is what all artists have done up til now boohoo
You suffer from envy
Still an iTunes guy in 2023
💀
I use Spotify to listen to podcasts only and not all the podcasts play at all trust me I hate the app
