Slightly off topic, but AlphaZero is also playing chess in a way that has the chess world in a tizzy. I think it's safe to say that is a very different beast than the previous AlphaGo versions.
AlphaZero is basically the exact same program as AlphaGo Zero, it was just fine-tuned for chess instead of go (for example, chess can end in a tie contrary to go).
Actually, AlphaZero is a bit different, it was presented only recently and learned to play go as well. AlphaZero, according to wiki, outplayed AlphaGo Zero in 100 matches with a score 60:40
"without even being fed hundreds of years of theory" ...in Go the AI (alphago zero) that wasn't fed on a diet of human tradition did better than the one that was (alphago master). I suppose the same would hold true for the more rudimentary game of chess.
at 18:30, can white get away with playing b6 to put pressure on the black group and be safe enough to live instead of being forced to take the 3 black stones?
I'd like to see similar reviews of AlphaZero Go vs. AlphaGo Zero! (the former won 60:40 apparently). Have those games been published? And don't the names suck? :)
So Michael and Chris, Do you have enough clout with the team at deepmind to present the moves that Michael seems to believe are better and see how the 2 programs would play them out? I think that'd be awesome.
31:13 "And if White makes something really [...], well, really bad in the center to make the ladder work..." "I liked your first word." I didn't get that word. :( It sounded like "discussive", but that doesn't seem to be a word. Any native speakers out there?
I'm very much a native speaker, and I couldn't understand the word. I think they were laughing about that fact, that a nonsense word came out somehow. :)
I keep hearing Michael mentioning how there’s a critical move that cost Master the game in these reviews. Would really like to see how Master would continue the games with Michael’s suggested moves… it almost feels like Zero isn’t really stronger, just more solid.
Dude you said that you have not even played a single game on a 19x19 board what makes you think that you are even close to being qualified for judging the strength of Master and Zero? typical case of Dunning-Kruger-Effekt sorry
I don't know which is stronger and which is more solid, but I agree that it would be interesting to see the continuation with Michael's proposed moves...
+KaiserAndFriends Are you stupid? I’m talking about what Michael is saying. I would have no idea on my own. He’s the one often saying Master is at an advantage, but then loses due to a crucial mistake.
I'm happy to have made this comment without having heard Michael's following commentary. I think C3 is better and more solid than B7 as it puts more pressure on white and almost forces him to take the two stones.
The way it trapped the queen was so masterfully done. You can see Stockfish squirm as it greedily gobbles up the pieces while AlphaZero gains positional advantage with each sacrifice, to the point where Stockfish has no good moves left.
chess was virtually solved with mini-max 30 years ago. it's a fairly simplistic game. Alpha zero beating chess is irrelevant imo, and it feels like it was done for publicity more than anything.
Please, chess may has it's quirks but remember that AGA means American Go Association. Main topic here is Go not chess, even further Micheal and Christ may not understand chess beyond the basics or so. I think some feedback or questions on the video would be more helpful. Be kind and don't ask for nonsenses.
A. curiosity or looking for similarities and differences.B you are thinking about playing Go. either way it is just fine.i don't play Chess but i love Pawn Sacrifice,End Game,Knights of the South Bronx and Searching for Bobby Fischer.
Thank you so much for these videos, Michael and Chris, and the AGA! You give a vivid impression of the depth and power of this technology.
Thank you for the great review! Your hard work is greatly appreciated.
great video! keep up the work

Андрей Черников wow, do you know the article?
Jon Hmm en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlphaZero
And the white paper on arxiv is referenced there

I'm not much of a go player, but I love watching these videos.
lol what do you get from this if your not a go player xd
KaiserAndFriends I said "not much of a go player", not "not a go player". I know the rules and play online sometimes, but I'm very bad.
Same. I’ve never played a game on 19×19, it looks way too daunting, but these professional explanations of amazing games are very interesting.
ALAKTORN Also I particularly like Michael 😁 other commentators are not as good for me.
Same! Michael is really good. Chris also works well with him.
Thanks a lot for the video! :)
"I don't know what's going on" hahahahhahaha
Me too!!!
Letting go of the group in the lower left seems like an example of Master's "bloodbath" strategy.
Question for Michael and Chris...which AG series do you enjoy reviewing more? The 50 AG ke jie version self play, or zero-master games?
Love it
Question, if the computer is choosing the optimum move each time, what prevents every game going the same way?

why b playes d6 and not invades the corner with c3?

"It was probably a clicko". LOL at an AI misclicking a move!
My experience is that happens all the time.
@@watchman835 Huh?

I am sure that Michael would as well. We will have to wait until the home version of Master comes out.
I think K6 is a heavy move untypical of Alphago. Better is to play C3, which solves for the good the problem of the middle left black group.
I'm happy to have made this comment without having heard Michael's following commentary. I think C3 is better and more solid than B7 as it puts more pressure on white and almost forces him to take the two stones.
AlphaZero vs Stockfish review when?

Why did I watch 20 minutes of this? I've never played Go in my life. I play chess.
