im confused if he went through to whole low side without skipping anything. is this a normal eaton pattern with reverse all the way up and to the left and low low low high under it, then a 4 speed? it isnt right? its like a horse shoe pattern like a 15 or something different? the shifter went straight to the right instead of up and right

Yes just the reverse
How does it switch from low range to high range?
Rear position is low, center position is high, and forward is the splits hig and low on a 18
