I think it has something to do with familiarity... as humans we recognise tiny little motions and facial expressions that can infer meaning. If something's even SLIGHTLY off, we really notice it. On an alien, our point of reference is skewed. We have an idea of how that species is supposed to look or feel, but that's all we've got, so that's all we know. Human faces are notoriously difficult to replicate. Even high budget films struggle with it. It always looks decent, but not quite there. Uncanny valley, sort of thing.
Yeah, between certain points, the more real animation gets, the more off it feels because it's just missing something. It's not recognizable on older animations because our mind is willing to fill the blanks if it's not too realistic. Strange human look might also be the partially fault of the engine, Frostbite is supposedly great for creating enviroments and unliving objects, not that great at human faces however.
I appreciate the honesty about the bugs. I understand that many may be resolved before launch, but it is a bit troubling with how close we are to that date. This time should be for regression testing, and not optimization.
Adam It's an older build - dev just said they fixed more than 100 bugs since that build was made, it didn't went gold yet, and there will be an one day patch. Don't worry that much.

Soldier was too bland for my taste in all of the ME games, the typical run and gun 3rd person shooter type. I countered the fast pace myself by playing almost exclusively adept and infiltrator. But yea, the repetitiveness was annoying.

Look, many of us have a limited amount of both time and money to put into gaming, so what we really want are totally honest reviews that give us a better idea of which games to sink our money into. I think what me and my friends are going to have to do is one person buy the game, and we all go to his house and play it to see for ourselves whether it is worth the money. Then just take turns who buys the first copy. It seems that is the only way we are going to get honesty.

I agree with your point about ME 1 having the best story of The Shepard Trilogy but disagree with you about it having the best customization. I preferred the Mix n' Match system in the second and third games, because in a series that's built on player agency, I love that I can personalize my Shepards.
And it's Native 4k on my 1070. I was debating which system to get it on but playing at native 4k at maxed settings is way better then on my upscaled Pro.

She feels part of a world cause if she didnt she would just say "on the ship" so the immersion part seems to be spot on
I love the Mass Effect series! Looking forward to the next installment. That being said it is annoying that they made the female main character uglier on purpose so the feminazis would leave them alone. Kinda defeats the purpose of having the model in the first place.
But then again she can be changed to look amazing, so it doesn't matter that she's ugly anymore. And at some angles she's not that ugly, she can look decent on one of the screenshots.

It sounds like an improved Dragon Age: Inquisition in space. Which isn't necessarily negative if it'll work, however the question is if Bioware streamlining two of it's main IPs into the - Space one and fantasy one, with identical game mechanics, is a good idea.
I'm playing through the DA series for the first time and am in DA:Origins now. Can confirm. Lots of hilarious banter between Mor and Alistair. Everytime it happens, I completely stop moving so I don't trigger some npc to start talking and messing it all up

2faced I started on 2 with the 360 then played 3. I finally bought the trilogy on PS3. By this time I finally played ME1. DenOfWhasps so not playing the first one first made it feel incomplete. I still don't understand what you mean by incomplete. Are you talking about gameplay mechanics, because it sure wasn't lacking in lore or story? As for The Witcher, it's not the best example, as The Witcher games are not a focused, tight trilogy. One doesn't need to play the first two games to play the third. This is not the case with Mass Effect, and I never understood people who skipped the first game. It's like watching Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi before A New Hope.
This game has elements of every game bioware has made. Seeing gameplay of Ryder walking through markets looks like knights of the old republic. Just like gta 5 driving feels like midnight club. They are taking all the things that made bioware games popular and implementing them into andromeda. Let's see how it all comes together. Either epic failure or amazing
Ano Niem im not sure if you are serious or not. But I do see bioware implementing a lot of things like crafting from the dragon age series. GTA 5 feels like every game they ever made put into 1 game. When you think about it like that. Then gta 5 is really the best game ever put together.
You don't have to claim ME:1 as your fav to be meta. That's actually a rather common play atm, a rather vast amount of people are claiming ME:1 is best to appear edgy, unique, and classic, but unfortunately that approach is sort of played out. Actually accepting ME:2 as the most well made game will be double-meta and will result in you becoming very popular in school and getting hella laid. Confirmed.
Honestly, I've noticed the back and forth between ME1 and ME2 boils down to RPG vs Shooter and Old BioWare vs New BioWare. Given my current age, I grew up on old BioWare games, like KotOR, so I'm much more interested in RPG mechanics and overall focused story, hence why ME1 has always been my favorite. I totally get why other gamers prefer the second game, and that's fine.
Ryan Francis Mass Effect 2 had a pretty great storyline. As for it being the best? Extremely hard to call. The first one is probably my favourite, as the story was phenomenal and it wasn't held back by it's gameplay as much as people claim. Mass Effect 2 had the worst gameplay of the series, in my honest opinion. ME1 was RPG, and 3 was a third person shooter/RPG. ME2 was caught painfully in between, and it shows. The gameplay suffers as a result in my opinion. Those god awful veins distorting half your field of view when you take too much damage were an awful design choice, and a nightmare on insanity. Going back to playing 2 from 3, the lack of an evasive dodge roll makes the combat feel slow and clunky by comparison.
Max Rz Oh yeah, for sure. But it's much more heavily RPG based than the others. There's shooting elements, but I wouldn't define Mass Effect 1 as a "Shooter." Especially considering you can play as an adept and have your only weapon proficiency be a pistol.
Lacuna Paradox Uh yeah, you can do that in the other two games as well. Pistol and biotics, go for it. Mass Effect 1 is still a "shooter" regardless of whether you're using a pistol or an assault rifle.
She's one of the only journalists I can stand to listen to at IGN. She is well-spoken, keeps it on the subject, and has a good blend of passionate and dispassionate, objective observations. She knows what she's talking about. Almost all of the others keeps going on and on with internal jokes and can't stay on the subject for more than 10 seconds at a time... Jose Otero is alright as well I guess
Mass Effect was easily my favorite. I agree that ME2 was really great, but ME1 had the "correct" feel for me. It had this sense of authentic feeling colonies and spaceflight where some things were hand-wavy, but most was explained and invested in. The story was archetypal but I enjoyed it and it felt even more well-written than ME2. IDK, I just liked the aesthetic, sound, locales, and writing even more from 1 than 2 and certainly more than 3. That being said, the whole series was great.

Did they inform you how early of a build you were playing on? I watched another video where they were informed they were giving these demos on months-old builds of the game.
Automatic cover? Did they not learn anything with Mass Effect? I can't even count the times I had to reload because of the stupid automatic cover kicked in at the wrong time and I got totally fragged. Hopefully it can be toggled on or off.
Let's be honest, pretty much all the custom made Shepard's looked like cartoonish mutants. So at worst, Andromeda is kind of on par with the trilogy so far.
Gotta agree with Ryan. Knew there was something about him I liked. Other than the Epic Suicide Mission ME2 disappointed environmentally. It was all corridors. Which it was my least favorite.
ME2 was very "corridor-y" but I still enjoyed it more that ME3. By the last installment, the game didn't even feel like a Mass Effect game anymore... at least from how the franchise was introduced in the first game. That said, speaking with Sovereign on Virmire is one of my favorite moments in gaming, as was speaking with Vigil on Ilos. Still get goosebumps, which is why ME1 will always be the best in the series
DenOfWhasps me1 truly had an amazing, thrilling storyline with a sense of mystery amd horror. it was amazing and the climax of the game (vigil to the end) had me on the edge of my seat.
Glad to see others agree with me. For the longest time almost everyone was saying ME2 was the best while very few of us were campaigning for the first game. Out of nowhere, I've noticed that most people in the past few weeks have been coming out and proclaiming ME1 as the best. While I agree wholeheartedly with this, I hope it's sincere and not people just jumping on the bandwagon.

I finished Mass Effect 1 yesterday for the first time (Normal difficulty, but i've played it on Hard before) and i just started Mass Effect 2 today (4 hours so far). I can't believe people actually say that ME 2 combats are better than in ME 1. Seriously ? ME1 combat has weaknesses but in ME2 it was dumbed down to ridiculous level ! It's really hard to know what your health status is, health comes back when you are in cover, less control of the squad, no more medi-gel, no more crouching, taking cover has become a chore, game changes your weapon on its own, and so on... ME2 is an upgrade in many ways but not in term of combat.
I've seen like 4-5 hours of mass effect andromeda video. I'm digging through everything I can find to just one more video, just one more! I want it so bad! I don't know how I'm going to make it through the work this week.
Mike Makes sense though. A generic cover shooter isn't hard to find these days, but an amazing story, deep dialogue and an immersive world are things that are always needed, and really make a game unique.
I'm happy they have gave us alot allot of class selection freedom but I hope it feels right when I'm playing. One of the reasons I played 2 and 3 a second and third time around was to try out a different classes.

It goes without saying but.... PC=Whatever the heck you want it to be, depending on your hardware. I use Nvidia DSR to boost to multiples of native display res and get noticeably clearer image quality.
i still think it's going to be a little bit of a missed opportunity not being able to engage in combat while driving the Nomad and i know everybody would rather them focus on more important aspects of the game at this point instead but after playing Arkham knight and mass effect 1 i cant help but think having a Nomad to go up against a Mech or some giant feral alien species would only add more excitement to the exploration obviously they could make tweaks to the vehicular combat so as to not give you invincibility ..idk it just feels like not having a armed vehicle would be like Skyrim before horse combat.
ME1 represents the end of an era in AAA console games that could be as open and nonlinear as KOTOR while still trying to be action/shooters. After that, games became more linear to bring in the popular audience, and ME3 represents the worst of the easy-mode linearization and day-1 DLC that followed it. ME2 is a nice balance between the two, and that's why it's the best in the series IMHO.
Have they ever played dragon age? Because to me this sounds like the system in dragon age 2 where if you played a sarcastic hawke they would be quite silly even if you didnt control him. That being said this system is a lot of fun c:

You can see bugs even in gameplay videos. I saw 2 bugs - ragdoll model bug and animation bug (character wasn't walking, he was sliding).
its still a month away and patches fix bugs. look at fallout and skyrim on launch I'm not worried if the game is good.

Playing Mass Effect 1 on Easy. That made my day.
I'm shocked that everyone seems to not like 2. That was my favorite one. One felt incomplete and 3 felt like a rush job.
theyre saying 2 was narrow and led you right through rather than encouraging exploration.. I'm new to ME and like homie on the vid I have about half of ppl saying 2 is the best and half saying play it first cause if you play it after 1 youll be mad.. my brother played 1 a lot, looked great at the time, but never even seen GP from 2, ill start on 1 cause that's how I am but this is what ppl tell me
2 would probably be my overall favorite, but 1 has such a great vibe to it that I can never replay 2 without starting back with 1. I'm just replaying it again now. Picked it up just to play a little one night and now I'm completely addicted again.
What exactly was incomplete about ME1? If anything, it had the most focused story of the entire trilogy. I do agree that ME3 was an overall letdown.

I started on 2 with the 360 then played 3. I finally bought the trilogy on PS3. By this time I finally played ME1. DenOfWhasps so not playing the first one first made it feel incomplete. I can imagine going back to Witcher 1 and being like WTH is this mess. So I'd say I'm wrong on that one because of its age.
I still don't understand what you mean by incomplete. Are you talking about gameplay mechanics, because it sure wasn't lacking in lore or story?
As for The Witcher, it's not the best example, as The Witcher games are not a focused, tight trilogy. One doesn't need to play the first two games to play the third. This is not the case with Mass Effect, and I never understood people who skipped the first game. It's like watching Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi before A New Hope.

This game has elements of every game bioware has made. Seeing gameplay of Ryder walking through markets looks like knights of the old republic. Just like gta 5 driving feels like midnight club. They are taking all the things that made bioware games popular and implementing them into andromeda. Let's see how it all comes together. Either epic failure or amazing
Ano Niem im not sure if you are serious or not. But I do see bioware implementing a lot of things like crafting from the dragon age series. GTA 5 feels like every game they ever made put into 1 game. When you think about it like that. Then gta 5 is really the best game ever put together.
You don't have to claim ME:1 as your fav to be meta. That's actually a rather common play atm, a rather vast amount of people are claiming ME:1 is best to appear edgy, unique, and classic, but unfortunately that approach is sort of played out. Actually accepting ME:2 as the most well made game will be double-meta and will result in you becoming very popular in school and getting hella laid. Confirmed.
Honestly, I've noticed the back and forth between ME1 and ME2 boils down to RPG vs Shooter and Old BioWare vs New BioWare. Given my current age, I grew up on old BioWare games, like KotOR, so I'm much more interested in RPG mechanics and overall focused story, hence why ME1 has always been my favorite. I totally get why other gamers prefer the second game, and that's fine.
Ryan Francis Mass Effect 2 had a pretty great storyline. As for it being the best? Extremely hard to call. The first one is probably my favourite, as the story was phenomenal and it wasn't held back by it's gameplay as much as people claim. Mass Effect 2 had the worst gameplay of the series, in my honest opinion. ME1 was RPG, and 3 was a third person shooter/RPG. ME2 was caught painfully in between, and it shows. The gameplay suffers as a result in my opinion. Those god awful veins distorting half your field of view when you take too much damage were an awful design choice, and a nightmare on insanity. Going back to playing 2 from 3, the lack of an evasive dodge roll makes the combat feel slow and clunky by comparison.
Lacuna Paradox, ME1 is also a shooter/rpg, just like ME2 and ME3. The shooting and cover mechanics are different but it's still a shooter.
Max Rz Oh yeah, for sure. But it's much more heavily RPG based than the others. There's shooting elements, but I wouldn't define Mass Effect 1 as a "Shooter." Especially considering you can play as an adept and have your only weapon proficiency be a pistol.
Lacuna Paradox Uh yeah, you can do that in the other two games as well. Pistol and biotics, go for it. Mass Effect 1 is still a "shooter" regardless of whether you're using a pistol or an assault rifle.

Mass Effect was easily my favorite. I agree that ME2 was really great, but ME1 had the "correct" feel for me. It had this sense of authentic feeling colonies and spaceflight where some things were hand-wavy, but most was explained and invested in. The story was archetypal but I enjoyed it and it felt even more well-written than ME2. IDK, I just liked the aesthetic, sound, locales, and writing even more from 1 than 2 and certainly more than 3.
That being said, the whole series was great.

Did they inform you how early of a build you were playing on? I watched another video where they were informed they were giving these demos on months-old builds of the game.
Automatic cover? Did they not learn anything with Mass Effect? I can't even count the times I had to reload because of the stupid automatic cover kicked in at the wrong time and I got totally fragged.
Hopefully it can be toggled on or off.
Let's be honest, pretty much all the custom made Shepard's looked like cartoonish mutants. So at worst, Andromeda is kind of on par with the trilogy so far.
Gotta agree with Ryan. Knew there was something about him I liked. Other than the Epic Suicide Mission ME2 disappointed environmentally. It was all corridors. Which it was my least favorite.
ME2 was very "corridor-y" but I still enjoyed it more that ME3. By the last installment, the game didn't even feel like a Mass Effect game anymore... at least from how the franchise was introduced in the first game.
That said, speaking with Sovereign on Virmire is one of my favorite moments in gaming, as was speaking with Vigil on Ilos. Still get goosebumps, which is why ME1 will always be the best in the series
DenOfWhasps me1 truly had an amazing, thrilling storyline with a sense of mystery amd horror. it was amazing and the climax of the game (vigil to the end) had me on the edge of my seat.
Glad to see others agree with me. For the longest time almost everyone was saying ME2 was the best while very few of us were campaigning for the first game. Out of nowhere, I've noticed that most people in the past few weeks have been coming out and proclaiming ME1 as the best. While I agree wholeheartedly with this, I hope it's sincere and not people just jumping on the bandwagon.

I finished Mass Effect 1 yesterday for the first time (Normal difficulty, but i've played it on Hard before) and i just started Mass Effect 2 today (4 hours so far). I can't believe people actually say that ME 2 combats are better than in ME 1. Seriously ? ME1 combat has weaknesses but in ME2 it was dumbed down to ridiculous level ! It's really hard to know what your health status is, health comes back when you are in cover, less control of the squad, no more medi-gel, no more crouching, taking cover has become a chore, game changes your weapon on its own, and so on...
ME2 is an upgrade in many ways but not in term of combat.

I've seen like 4-5 hours of mass effect andromeda video. I'm digging through everything I can find to just one more video, just one more! I want it so bad! I don't know how I'm going to make it through the work this week.
So basically people are complaining that the game actually has good combat now and a shit story.
Mike Makes sense though. A generic cover shooter isn't hard to find these days, but an amazing story, deep dialogue and an immersive world are things that are always needed, and really make a game unique.

Complete ME trilogy replay. ME 2 three times, and ME 3 twice. I'm so ready for this game.
i still think it's going to be a little bit of a missed opportunity not being able to engage in combat while driving the Nomad and i know everybody would rather them focus on more important aspects of the game at this point instead but after playing Arkham knight and mass effect 1 i cant help but think having a Nomad to go up against a Mech or some giant feral alien species would only add more excitement to the exploration obviously they could make tweaks to the vehicular combat so as to not give you invincibility ..idk it just feels like not having a armed vehicle would be like Skyrim before horse combat.

ME1 represents the end of an era in AAA console games that could be as open and nonlinear as KOTOR while still trying to be action/shooters. After that, games became more linear to bring in the popular audience, and ME3 represents the worst of the easy-mode linearization and day-1 DLC that followed it. ME2 is a nice balance between the two, and that's why it's the best in the series IMHO.
