I had a party come to Krezk with Van Richten once. The moment they came through the gates, he split off from the group to go inquire about the village. They later met up and he filled them in about most of the village lore, one part of which was the Abbot being immortal. Later, while they were talking with the Abbot, under the guise of Rictavio, Van Richten first pretended to sneeze into his arm, letting off a small cloud of powdered garlic. Seeing that that didn't do anything, he poured holy water on his arm behind his back and stepped forward like a klutz, shaking the abbots hand. To which the abbot awkwardly responded with "My, what wet hands you have.", before continuing his speech about the abbey. He kept going for a bit longer after that, trying to prove the Abbot was a vampire, all while my party struggled to keep a straight face. To this day, that moment is the only time I managed to break a serious character like Van Richten away into something funny as well as in character.
First time running curse of strahd (I'm the DM), our fated ally is vasilka and they're prolly gonna find esmeralda here as well. I love this location and the abbot storyline. Great video.
I’m starting my second session of Curse of Strahd and I’m very new to DMing. I decided to start near Krezk instead of Barovia because I liked the wizards of winery quest as a starter. This helped immensely with hooking the players into getting them into the abbey! Lemme know if you want to know more about my campaign!
Ofcourse I need to watch your abbey video aswell, after watching Krezk and Krezk Special Events :D Edit: The session today went smoothly, we had a lot of fun. Krezk is a cool mysterious town, with the abbey on top of the mountain. My players delivered 2 barrells of wine and had an interesting encounter with the Burgomaster. Later they went up to the abbey. The Barbarian-Player made a race against Otto and lost. He was so angry, that he punched the wall at the garden gate and hurt himself a bit. :D (Note: The barbarian is like a athletic guy who likes to compete with others. But he is a sore loser (in-character flaw, the player liked to roleplay. it was hilarious :D ...))
Really cool stuff as always! What do you think about the Vasili(Strahd) and The Abbot relationship? And will The Abbot be open about who the bride is for? If Vasili is with the characters (they don’t know who he is) would Abbot blow his cover? Or would the bride actually be for Vasili (The Abbot knows who he is but would he still call him by that name he used when they met)
I believe the abbot would be open about the bride. I usually wouldnt have Vasili go outside of Vallaki because most commoners wouldnt go out, but that could prove to be a very interesting and tense scene. Perhaps the Abbot is about to say something, then Strahd does something to interupt it, then talk to the abbot alone. That could be a blast!
i plan that if they somehow release the mongrel folk, should they ever return the mongrels have take over, however most of them have starved to death due to mismanagement and its a big shit show and i hope they feel bad :D also since magic works weird in borovia, what if the heroes feast is really macabre, like mongrel pig meat n such.
No mention of the Island of Dr. Moreau?
"Are we not men?"
"Not to go on all fours, that is the law!?"
As a relatively new DM taking on CoS as a first large campaign, your videos have been SO HELPFUL dude - thank you!
thank you so much!

If your players are murder hobos they should be cursed for killing the raven
What kind of voice did people use for the Abbott?
i have a whole video on voicing the abbot!
