I cannot tell you how perfect this timing is! This video was released while me and my co-teacher for our Rhetoric students are discussing how best to implement "Socratic Discussion" in our Seminar class. You answered all of my questions!
Thanks for this discussion! I'd recommend checking out street epistemology, which involves asking thoughtful questions about the reasons behind a person's beliefs and the methods they used to form those beliefs, with the goal of encouraging critical thinking and self-reflection. It's a form of questioning that helps people see why they believe the things they do.
Martin, I appreciate your comments on the value of reading good book reviews. I particularly enjoy reading the 'Claremont Review of Books' and 'The New Criterion.' There is not enough time to read all the great books, but a really good review can help get to the meat of a book's ideas.
Read, if you dare " The Fundamental Concepts of Metaphysics; World, Finitude, Individuation by Martin Heidegger " : he is the master of engagement through questioning.

Shall we consider a transition to the Fab Five?

I wish you guys had a list on Amazon with all the books you are reading 🤣 it would make me so happy
We need a movie on Socrates
Getting frustrated with the amount of times that Mitchell is interrupted by others at the table.
Same!

He was literally a Nazi who rooted for the Reich.
Would it be fair to call Socrates a deconstructionist?
