I'm new at turning and for some time I've been looking for turning videos where they address the wobble that causes spirals when turning thin stock. I've tried sharpening, lighter pressure, adjusting the turning speed, but couldn't find a solution. It's like no one else had the problem. This is the first that spoke of a simple solution; supporting the back of the piece with your finger. Thank you!

Thanks Carl, I enjoy watching your videos and have recommended a number of them to AAW for their video site.

Very clear, thanks. I've been working on wands which are the same principle but longer and apparently that extra length is just enough that I've needed a steady rest to support it; my fingers behind are not enough. So frustrating to watch them snap! I liked how you did the fillets, and your clean parting off. Maybe I'll do hairpins instead of wands once I finish this commission! :)

I have both crown and sorby tools and see no difference in their spindle gouges- there are flute profile differences in their bowl gouges. I like the crown pm tools.

Great presentation and thank you for sharing! I’m working towards taking my Delta Rockwell 46-200 out for a spin. What speeds are you working with on this small spindle?

      I don’t know the exact speed - probably between 1500 and 2000.

Good Afternoon Mr. Wager.. Are you using Crown tool? I am also a wood turner and use Sorby Tools ... What is your tool of choice? Thank you ... Love the work. Keep the videos coming

Great teaching. Going on 72, looking for my first lathe. Budgeting for midi Rikon or Jet.

Can't go wrong with the jet - I have two of them and both are worth as much now than I paid for them 10 years ago.

The answer I had been looking for. Thank you Walter. Dusted off my 1927 Prairie de Chen grinder and re-edged some old lathe tools today.

Nice tutorial, but I couldn't hear you most of the time.

Can’t really see anything you’re doing because of the camera angle, just the back of your hand.

Sorry about that- maybe I’ll redo it. Thanks for the feedback.
