I am an Australian and I had never heard about about this movie. In my opinion, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I'm a Canuck and have been binge watching B roll war movies on TH-cam lately(It rains a lot on Vancouver Island in December), this is by far the best one I've watched.

Found this movie by pure accident, I'd never heard of it, it's now ended up on my favourites list and I've recommended it to others, this one definitely snuck under the radar in Australia.
This should be regarded as a classic movie. A must watch.

Never in my long memory can I recall such an artistically satisfying and thematically uplifting film as William Kelly's War. Most unusual of all is perhaps its profound vision of good and evil, a discernment about life which is simply beyond compare.

Is this based on.a true story? It would have been quite a well known horror story, the farmer his wife n son being killed(?) Somehow its not quite believable...

This has left me emotionally drained. I can only think what suffering and sorrow has been in this world. I don’t know how anyone can dispute, the good vs evil. The good, is so very good and the evil so very evil
You are very correct about the Evil being so very Evil and it sometimes deceives the good.
And you will do bad stuff without knowing it as well because you don’t know any better that is utterly the truth as well you only know bad or good the longer you live or knowing the word of God

Importantly, most Australian recipients have been awarded the medal posthumously.

The MoH and VC might be the highest award for valour in both systems, but they are not the same. Compare the number of serving soldiers in the British Empire and Wars and conflicts that they fought in compared to the USA forces and it shows the Victoria Cross is to not given out as easily or often. That said, anyone with a VC or MoH have done something amazing, may no future service people be put in positions where they get nominated for either.

@@Kitiwake yes Kelly is an Irish name. Irish were among the first settlers here .mostly as convicts . The most famous outlaw in Australian history is Ned Kelly .Some great movies have been made about his life . In fact Mick Jagger (rolling stone's) played him in a film . Look it up great story

The Rifles used at the beginning of the Film were they the Breech Loading Martin Henry Rifles used by the British Army in Africa against the Zulu's & in the Boer War?

I have a 1918 Primus stove that I bought via mail from Sydney. A friend in Scotland, opined that it had been brought home by a military officer, from WWI. This movie was amazing. I think I'll make Tea on my Primus.

Very Good WWI Movie mixed in with a good ol Aussie Western. Plenty of action mixed in with a good storyline. Well worth the watch. 8.5 outta 10 stars.
