    I appreciate the insight and especially your attitude of comradare amongst the entire spectrum of our hobby. The truth is, whether we can spend $500 or $500,000 this is a luxury hobby and we all need to understand we're blessed if we can participate in it at all!

    • @Youthman

      That is certainly true. I’ve said many times we don’t need anything in this hobby. They are all truly “wants” and are indeed a luxury item.

    I thoroughly enjoyed your last Funko Pops home theater video, and I don't care how much the theater costs. I get excited by the owner's reactions, when their eyes light up, when I see a huge smile on their face. Why? Because I can relate. I get to relive my personal home theater experience. Whether the theater budget is limited or limitless, seeing the personal pride and joy of each person is worth the price of admission. Thank you for your content, and today's transparency.

    I think you have a really good mix, personally. I totally get why you cant do them all. I would call my system "mid/lower tier", maybe I have $5-7k invested. I have to agree with some other posts, i also get the most inspiration from budget tours. Those tours are my favorite part of the channel. And i have always gravitated toward/related to theaters with a lot of memorabilia and character.
    Ive also learned a lot from this channel too. But i can appreciate the cost and logistical challenges of tours, and how you cater content to all follower preferences. The channel has grown/evolved. I dont think it means you changed or roots changed. But range of content has. If a video isnt for someone, they just dont need to watch it.

    I love all the tours. My fav are the mid budget tours. Because like me when you only have so much to spend over time it makes you have to be creative. Whether that means going DIY, or being patient as a sniper and wait for that rare Youthman type deals to pop up and strike. lol That’s how I have had to be. I started back in 2020 because COVID shutdown my local theater, or go to karaoke. So I started down the rabbit hole. So now 4 years later and about $2000 worth or used gear I now have a 7.2.4 home theater that actually make me not go to the theater because it sounds waaayy better than my local theater. And unless it’s a must see in theater movie. I wait for RedBox. Now yes my speakers are 13-15 year old JBL Studio Series, but they still sound phenomenal. And my Sony STR-ZA5000ES is about 7 years old. But they were some of the top end for their time. But still do everything I need. Point being. You can get a mid to higher end set up if you save up your money and take your time. Journey not destination.

    I really like your videos, whether they are based on high ends or low ends. But, if you can convince the audio companies to sponsor the low-end setups, more people will aspire to try those setups. Corrolla is still the best-selling car in the world, regardless of the fact that it is one of Toyota's lower-tier products. Budget setups with their building cost, the story behind the journey, and the change after the experience can attract more consumers. Thank you for this video and the other ones. Wish you all the best.

    During the last 6 months I've been planning a home theater renovation and regardless of cost, I still watch high end videos as there's been times where I was able to take ideas from them to be applied on my entry level home theater. Some theaters that I've seen that cost hundreds of thousands, even if I had the money to spare I would never build simply because it isn't my style. My point is regardless of cost, sometimes you can find what you need to make your theater unique. Thanks Mike.

    I always follow you as I think you are a genuine person deep down inside and truly beleive this. I know a lot about home cinema, but being that youtube is monetised, nowadays no one will review budget gear anymore...reason is clear, budget does not make high profits so high end there are bigger margins and being a content creator you are after all selling these products and getting sponsors is part of the game. Only thing I hate about all this is that all the enthusiasts about this hobby will still dream that one day they will afford a trinnov, storm, perlisten, JTR etc etc because being a modest family man with a good job you cannot afford to have a mortgage, children, vehicle etc etc but dream to spend say 30k on a surround processor, even though you deeply know that high end is the best with most features it doesn't make sens that you have a family and earn 50k a year so basically will never afford a 30k processor, period. Anyways keep doing what is best for you, and as I always tell you I really wish one day I could travel to the US to visit mwave all the way back from the tiny Maltese island.

    • @Youthman

      I sincerely appreciate you sharing your thoughts. There are plenty of creators (including myself) who review budget gear. I have reviews on Klipsch, Monoprice, KLH, Polk Audio. I currently am reviewing three pair of headphones from Edifier. All of these companies are what I would consider affordable. Not saying they are cheap, but the average Joe can save up, sell something they aren't using etc to be able to afford their products.
      Hopefully this will help provide some perspective for you.
      I've reviewed products that cost $79 (remotes, UMIK-1, headphones) and I've reviewed speakers that cost $12,000 (Sonus Faber). Some of those products have affiliate links (ie Amazon), while others do not.
      I'm friends with most of the creators in our niche. We review gear either because we are personally interested in the product or we feel our audience might be interested in it. Our goal is to provide consumers enough information that they can make an informed decision whether a product meets their needs and fits within their budget.
      Products like the Sonus Faber Olympica Nova III that I reviewed cannot be purchased online. I made a whopping $143.64 in Adsense revenue (from the Google ads that appear in the video) for the 24,900 views it generated. That amounts to $11.97 each month in revenue that I made on that video. As you can see, unless you are getting hundreds of thousands of views on your video, you certainly are not getting rich off TH-cam.

    This video title scared me , after watching the last tour, I thought maybe feedback was bad and you decided the small tours weren't good for your channel or the owners. Glad it was just an explanation of why high end gets featured more from a logistics point. I'd love to have you out, I am proud of my theatre and think I did a lot for a guy who did it all himself and watched a few videos from creators like you, but I understand I'm in Michigan, almost 2 hours from Detroit airport. That's not going to happen, unless you are in town for other reasons, and that's cool. I was wondering if you considered virtual tours over video conference with submitted video b-roll, but the production value wouldn't really be there, and you wouldn't get to experience the room, which is kind of a bummer, so I get that too. Keep up the good work though celebrating it all is the way to go.

    I think budget is a bit of a loaded word. What’s “budget” to one person is vastly different to another. I’ve gone from 80$ used paradigm speakers to brand new svs ultras. Biggest difference was clarity at higher volume and the ability to play louder cleaner. Once I went with sound panels the sound stage, center channel clarity and surround effects really improved. I stared with a paradigm pdr10 and thought it was the bees knees, loved it for years. I agree with you it’s all about enjoying the journey and hobby. You’ll go crazy trying to keep up with the joneses.

To be honest, i don't think i'll experience a true home theatre now anyway as all the potential rooms were taken after our three children were born, not that i'd change that for anything. I have an 83 inch tv mounted to the wall in an open living room. Im hoping to get some kind of sound system set up eventually. Im no expert and ill be honest, a lot of your technical talk relating to amps and speakers goes over my head. However. It's a 7.2.2 system with 120" screen. It's gets a lot of wow's from friends who see it for the first time. Biggest lesson LEARNED during this process is if you journey down this road do your flooring first before you load the room. I'm still dealing with that.

    In contrast to the other comment I left, there was a home theater tour a few years ago where a guy had a nice room, but decided to put a long TV stand with a black glass top (that was like a mirror) directly under his projection screen, and myself and about a hundred other guys commented telling him to put black velvet on the top of that TV stand to get rid of the massive reflection it was putting off. In this situation the people commenting were just trying to help the guy get better results in his room, and in the end he was appreciative of the advice and actually bought some velvet and agreed that getting rid of that reflection was an improvement! So there is one example of when pointing out a flaw led to a positive outcome.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nulls are caused by room interaction. You either have to move the sub to a different location, or add multiple subs and time align them to help smooth out the response.
      After calibration, my dual subs are relatively flat down to 5Hz in my room.
      But to get rid of the nulls, I had to create a house curve at the lowest part of the null.
      But even doing that I have WAY more than enough output in my room do to the massive amount of headroom these subs have.

I upgraded from two DIY full marties to two 4cuf heavy sealed boxes with matrix and a Q of 0.8. Drivers are um18-22. The issue is, it sounds better but I have lost the visceral low 20hz airy bass. I am currently building a 21 in a 6cuf box to try and get it back but now I'm thinking I need a lot more power. How many power amps does Johnathan have? Your JTRs are 4000w if memory serves me correct. You have 2x4000w your mate has 5x 4000w and Johnathon has 8 18s. I have 3000w running at the moment and my area is slightly larger than yours. For me, I prefer to stay away from watching high-end home theater tours that are very exotic such as an Imperial home theater, but that's just me. Of course, as you mentioned, it's all about the passion and the journey. Perhaps I will get there in the future by having high-end components with room acoustics and simplistic room design and simply film my own home theater tour myself.
    And hey, I'm not sure if I've mentioned to you but I have just replaced my Velodyne VRP-12 with Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-1000SW and I loved my subwoofer a lot. My old subwoofer had ringing issues around 72Hz and distortion around 80Hz at high volume. I'm going to go all out on Klipsch RP line of speakers and go with separates such as a Tone Winner AT-300 and Tone Winner AD-8300 11-channel amplifier. Sure, it's a little pricey, but I will get there. It's part of my journey! :)

    Just an idea what if when you do a big sponsored video maybe post the city and area that you will be in so that people can submit the theaters that are extremely close to you while you are there anyways , kinda killing two birds with one plane ticket although I realize that might make a long day for you 😅, but might be at least a viable solution as I have noticed that seems with big budget more time is spent on equipment and showing off the theater as with DIY and budget , more time is spent on the journey and story and creation both entertaining and inspiring in there own ways , the only thing that keeps me from submitting my theater is I feel like there is no way you’d ever spend the time to come out here but that’s just me projecting * pun intended * but I love this channel and what you do for everyone keep it up !

    I know you take pride in the Production of your own videos, and it shows... But you could let the budget to mid tier systems come to You via their own videos sent into your channel ... " A people's show case " type section 🤔 I would like to also add that the problem I find with " high end type systems" is that they are very predictable in that it's almost always a Kaleidoscape, Trinnov, Mad VR, Velaencia and JVC/Sony type system... At least with the mid/ low price systems you'll never know what your going to get... there is much more diversity and room for "out of the box thinking" with the lower tiers due to financial restraints...🤔💭

      I appreciate the suggestion echo. I shared in another comment below that there’s several considerations. And only is the production and style of video that I provide, but there’s also logistics that make that type of video more complex, like file type, transferring their video to me, likely a huge amount of communication, but the biggest part is not being there personally to experience, and share my thoughts and have the Interaction between myself and the homeowner

    Yes, it is kind of fun to look at stuff you are never gonna buy.
    I’ve talked to a couple of my small business owner friends, around 2 to 3 million net worth. They seem to be happy in the 15 to 20,000 dollar range for a home theater. I am a disabled vet, kinda poor and runs a DJ charity, i have about 10 grand worth of equipment, pulling double and triple duty.
    I can see the economics of going out to high end theaters cuz sponsors want to sell that 5,0000 dollar screen( when a 500 dollar one is basically made of the same materials).
    My question to you mr Youthman is although high end setups are very profitable to manufacturers due to diminishing returns, what percentage of theaters in use(100 inch and over at least 5.1) are in the high end? And what percentage are in the 2,000 to 20,000 low to low mid range?
    I am just curious if anyone knows how it is spread out.

      I have no way of knowing how much each person chooses to spend on their Home Theater. I do know that 2/3 of my audience have a TV and not a projector as most do not have a dedicated room in their home.

    • @retrorick5722
      @retrorick5722 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Youthman Yes that makes sense. I have issues being older, with eye fatigue, and just flat out prefer a projector(plus watching movies on one is cool). The only data i could find myself is that spending is supposed to go up 14.5 percent in the next 8 years for home theater equipment. Many people are, or are saying they wish to abandon the theater.
      Honestly, a lot of the modern movies out there I absolutely do not like the themes, people, and politics in them.
      My nephews and friends have a wonderful backlog of old movies. There is no reason to watch the awful “Rings of Power”, when the Rankin/Bass hobbit and Peter Jackson trilogy are available.
      I can watch the marx brothers and three stooges, instead of ghostbusters 2016 also. Etc etc.
      I just ordered a copy of 1970s Catch-22, should be good.
      Anything nice in your backlog, mr. Youthman?

  • @GunnyPhillips
    @GunnyPhillips 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Let me start by saying, if I'm misinterpreting anything you've said, please forgive and correct me.
    It sounds like you're simply saying "out of state theater tours must be sponsored and higher end setups are more likely to attract sponsors." Completely understandable, but If that is the case, it might be worth mentioning up front on your web form so people don't go through the trouble of submitting when they have little chance of being selected. I went through the process twice.
    Also, "budget" vs "high end" is a very relative and subjective consideration. My theater includes a Marantz AV10, a JVC NZ8 and Legacy Audio LCR's. My room isn't a showcase like some of the really cool ones out there because, when I planned it, I visited commercial theaters and learned the best thing a room can do in a proper theater design is disappear. I'm not telling others how to build out their rooms as we should all spend our money however we choose but that's how I designed mine.
    Your passion for the hobby is evident, which is why other enthusiasts like myself want to interact with you.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Gunny, thank you for the feedback. Before you complete the form on the website, hometheatertours.com/home-theater-submit/ it says the following:
      "If you would like to have your Home Theater featured on Home Theater Tours and the Youthman TH-cam channel, please complete the submission form below. Due to travel and the amount of time it takes to shoot and edit a home theater tour, if your theater is chosen, we will reply to your submission and begin to reach out to brands to see if they would be interested in sponsoring the video."
      It's pretty clearly stated up front that due to travel, it is likely that we will need to secure a sponsor to make it feasible. Keep in mind, I receive a lot of submissions. It's simply impossible to obtain a sponsor for each Home Theater that is submitted. Also, this is my full-time business. Unfortunately, I simply cannot travel around the world without the help of sponsors.
      You have a fantastic room. I have reached out to Legacy Audio many times over the past 5 years and they have declined every opportunity I have presented to them.

    • @GunnyPhillips
      @GunnyPhillips 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Youthman Thanks for taking the time to reply. I understand what you're saying and the real-life decisions you must make as you grow your business. It just seems, in many cases, people with the most passion for our hobby are left out of the spotlight while others with more expensive, flashy setups are featured. You said as much and explained why.
      In many (not all) cases, they paid others to build their theaters and lack in depth knowledge or true passion for Home Theater.
      I actually could afford such a room and even fill it with the likes of Wisdom Audio and Trinnov gear but have decided it wouldn't represent a good value proposition for me. I enjoy building out and improving my room at least as much as I enjoy using it and I rarely have more than a few close friends or family as guests.
      Thanks for what you do, Youthman. I do see a disturbing trend in Home Theater but it's certainly not your fault.

    I'm definitely on a budget. But, honestly, I don't want to see budget builds. I want to see how the folks with money do it because I know they are wanting it done right. From there, I can figure out how to get as close to that as possible within my budget. I've also noticed that a lot of the money that goes into the high end builds is spent on things that don't really matter. I can save a ton of money by not theming the room or buying genuine Saskatchewan sealskin upholstery.
    Now, budget gear reviews or tech tips are always welcome.
