Bjorn you are such a special and magnificent man. Your videos help validate our people and heritage. It confirms what many of us feel - all over the world. It’s your heart - your sharing - passion for “Gaia” - for shining a bright light on things beautiful and tragic. Than you my brother- you are one of the great ones.
Amazing video, thank you, Bjørn! The tour guide was very gracious, understanding and patient while you filmed all the details in Wolin - big props to them. I appreciate your attention to the history, the scenery, the animals and the trees. Interesting that the raven should watch over you while you were near the barrows. I love the footage at the end of your video, to see you standing there on the edge of the Baltic sea, with the forest behind you. Is it the modern age, the Viking age, or even before history? Though the clothes, and the equipment, may differ, it is simply a man and the sea - and the basics are all the same. The same wind, the same salt in the air, the same scents of the pine forest. Wonderful, like a universal truth about man and nature.
History is so fascinating. We can see the remnants of the past. We can experience the restorations of the homes and shops. We can imagine what it is like to live the way people in the pasted did. The one thing you can be assured of those of the past were people just like you and i are today. They had families, and their homes had the warmth of parents and children and maybe even pets. Though they worked differently, and may be could not read or write. Some could. But the artisans and the apprentices would learn complicated things. Many complicated things. Life depended on having many many skills. I hope your book tour is going well. Enjoy every where you go. thanks for sharing J..
This is a fascinating tour of a viking village in Poland. What a treat. Thanks for directing our attention to this video. It is something special seeing and watching you touch the authentic artifacts and such. Beautiful place, and Bjorn, what a privilege to have visited it in person.
How I miss and long to my forests in Poland. My heart is crying to see deers in the morning mist, to smell a bark on a pine tree, to taste a water from a spring. I am already dead without my land.
Exactly what I would have gone to see had I visited; the history, the historical detail and accuracy, the forest and the Baltic Sea. Restaurants and the night life can't in a million years give you the same sense of a place nor its feeling of timelessness.
Thank you for taking us to Wolin, I want to go there some day, preferably when they got the big gathering and battles but only watching from a safe distance, it can get a bit rough apparently. I think I do the same as you whenever I am in a historical place, I try to find some quiet and just “feel” the place, how it was, look at the landscape, get the “aroma”. I probably look like a “special” person who has lost his group. 😁 Anyway, I hope I find your latest book under the Christmas tree on the 24. God Jul!
I can imagine it must have felt very special to be in such a place full of history and to see how the Vikings have lived there.....!!!! Glad you’ve been there, now i know how it looks over there like you’ve written in your book!!!
There are differences between this place and my version, as both are only interpretations and guesswork of what it looked like etc. But yes, it does feel special.
Thanks again for great content Bjorn ! Wolin is one of the lands of my ancestors (I have many photos of their home and church in Wolin etcetc). My family are mixed blood of Slavic, Teutonic and Baltic and more recently Celtic/Welsh (Watkins) from my Mothers father since being in Australia. I have spent just over four years trying to trace my ancestry and so far revealed that my family tree emanate from the Baltic area Eastern Pomerania, Old Prussia and Götaland .. It's been rather difficult tracing ancestry due to the Baltics horrible history of violent power struggles. Very important advice for European diaspora trying to trace family/ancestry in the Baltic area ... ALWAYS start your enquiry using searches for the Kingdom of Prussia because it is very likely that if you've lost them completely then your family were likely NEVER defined as German, Polish or Lithuanian and perhaps like my family only ever consider themselves ""Prussian"" or Wendish. In my families case ""Pomeranian Prussian"" and left in the Wendish migration of the 1800s.
... and so unique, such a grand division of leaf and coniferous. Have you had a chance to look at the illustrated edition of 'The Hidden Life of Trees'? It is lovely. Just came upon that book a while ago. Such beautiful drone footage and music, you shared. Humbly, I say, I think the travelling is so 'very' worth it. 🌷 There is something about 'being' in a place. I've felt it quite strongly upon returning to my homeland. The Baltic sea ... yes, the hub of our Ancestors. :-) ... the main street of the town, so to speak.
I love the vikings my favourite people in history, my daughter had twin boys nearly two months ago their names Ivar & Odin . Thank you for this brilliant video Bjorn ❤❤
What an awesome village and forest, thank you for taking us along on your journey and sharing it with us. I wish we had this here in Australia as it’s something I would like to visit. Cheers from Australia
In an eerie way interesting to see this reconstruction of an old norse village with the back drop of a modern city in the background. The village was beautiful, very well constructed.
It's not a Norse village. It's Slavic. To be a viking was an occupation, not an ethnicity. There are some similarities between Norsemen and Slavs but clothing, textiles, weapons, fighting style, cusine, religion and architecture differed. :)
I can't believe I found this video Bjorn. I Live in the village on the oposite side of the bay (Zalew Szczecinski) where the Wolin Island is situated. Those places and forest you showed in this video look so familiar to me. Every time I walk in the forest and look at the Zalew Szczecinski Bay from the clifs, and especially when I see some boat passing by, thoughts about Vikings and ancient times come to my mind. I have this strange feelings when I realize that Viking and/or Slavs used to walk the same paths. Seriously. I Iam happy that you enjoyed trip to Wolin. Greetings from Poland.
That village was very cool and interesting, thanks for showing it to us. It was also interesting to see your research and your thought process. Cheers, Wade
thank you for making this video, I was there this last summer for the festival of the Vikings and Slavs and fought in the battles. I miss the place, I miss Poland.
Amazing place there in Poland … have to visit it some day. Thanks for sharing this with me. Hope you’ll have a wonderful new year together with your family Atb to you my friend 😉
Thanks Bjorn for the video. These videos gives me a look into different parts of the world and it is fascinating ! Thanks for the video and love the drone footage ! !
This is one of my favorite videos . The way you capture the moment and the music really adds to the moment and capture what it might have been like . Being that my ancestors are from Poland this is wonderful to see Thank you for this
Before I moved to Idaho, I lived in Michigan where I would walk on the beach of Lake Superior. The air, wind and the sound of the waves are so different from the Pacific Ocean. I have also walked on it's beach. So I can see and feel the difference like you can. Enjoy the beauty of the area, my friend.
Wow … just found this gem now… this is magnificent, Thankyou so much for sharing, I had no idea there was a Viking village in Poland… such resilient peoples…. So darn interesting.😊
The ancient steps you follow I can feel through this screen Bjorn! I can certainly see the importance of knowing the lands and places in your novels, which I can't wait until they come out in English. Thank You Very Much! And if you ever get to Pennsylvania, you have a place to stay here, in my woods! Peace and Safe Journeys! DaveyJO in Pa.
I didn't know you could have a breakdown bed in that time period how wonderful it would have been if your on ship or traveling on land and had a sound bed now matter where you go!! If you had the money
I enjoy your fascination with viking Heritage. People all over the world still live like this. Albeit with more sunshine. I'm looking forward to you directing a movie based on your book. Happy journeys to you in the future.
That was very interesting. I look forward to hopefully seeing your Jomsviking series published in English. I just signed the petition and signed up for email updates. In the meantime, keep up the good work! Thanks!
Thank you Bjorn for a very interesting video. The drone footage was exceptional. particularly the vertical shots of the woods. I have visited the Baltic once, at Loboe, near to Kiel, and I agree with you. A fascinating sea indeed.
Hi Bjorn , thanks for this one , i really wished i could be there with you , these places are magic , if you don't look too far it's a real throwback in time . the "real" world is too close to really "dive" in it but it's really nice to being able to see all of this . Once again a really good video . ; )
Wollin was neat, but the comments you made when you were walking along the strand on the Baltic resonated with me. I feel the same way when I visit Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. I just watch a video by a German guitarist I subscribe to (Van Vailia aka Böse Fuchs) that she did on the shores of the Baltic (Ostsee), and I get that same feeling just looking out onto it. A longing to set sail.
A Freshwater Sea is down the end of my street. Lake Superior. On the north shore ( Thunder Bay) It, too, has a storied past. You need to visit boreal forest areas of Canada.
Your videos always give us a different, more personal view of things. Much appreciated. On another note, I see you have the Peak Design Clip. Useful stuff.
Does it matter if it's in the forest or on the ocean . I am tranquil in both places this is why I love Viking so much the Scandinavian life you have a wonderful day and have a good trip
I read that germanic peoples are a mixture of farmers from Anatolia, hunter gatherers and people from the Pontic steppes. In Mecklenburg Vorpommern, during a few days in the bronze age period, their was a battle between two groups. One with stone weapons and one with bronze weapons. Skeletons were found in a river with skulls with holes in it.
Very nice and intresting video. Im very happy you quickly found yoursefl, like at home. I live in cqpital of my country but Wolin its one of best parts of Poland. Its magic place, it has that something. Nest regards and happy Jul.
Was that woods farmed in the past? Loved that beach area. Almost reminds me of some areas in New England. Very nice excursion and a beautiful world we have.
Fantastic video Bjørn, really fascinating look around. I love the wood work and the thatch rooftops. It is great that you take us with you on these journeys. I so look forward to the day your books are in English for those of us who only read in English, although I thought about learning Norwegian so I could read them ,however it might be years before I could read so I’ll hope on English translation 😉
I'm also getting started on learning Norwegian you can get in on your phone etc it's a learn while you sleep or just relaxing that's the one I'm going to be trying
Awesome, first time I heard about Jomsburg was from your book, I'm looking forward to the release of the Dutch translation of your second book in august

Wow! Such a magical place.

Thank you. This has to be the best comment I've read in a very long time.

Excellent video! I have been to Szczenin - nice place. If I ever go back, I will now visit Wolin. Thanks for taking us along.
You should go there, my friend. Very fascinating place! But if I should choose, I would go there during summer or spring.
Bjorn you are a very special soul. We love you and the way you shed light on our Nordic indigenous heritage.
Nordic culture never ceases to amaze me.
How I miss and long to my forests in Poland. My heart is crying to see deers in the morning mist, to smell a bark on a pine tree, to taste a water from a spring. I am already dead without my land.
May you find yourself again for the ache in your spirit, you can remember.
Bjorn - Dennis & Marlene are from New Zealand. Your philosophy is like a soothing balm to our soul. Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful journey Bjorn! You live my dream
Exactly what I would have gone to see had I visited; the history, the historical detail and accuracy, the forest and the Baltic Sea. Restaurants and the night life can't in a million years give you the same sense of a place nor its feeling of timelessness.
I love Watching this guy listening to his voice is so therapeutic he’s super laid-back and you can tell he’s super passionate about what he’s into

Hej Björn från Sverige. This camp reminds me so much of the viking winter camp in Repton in England in 873.
I can imagine it must have felt very special to be in such a place full of history and to see how the Vikings have lived there.....!!!! Glad you’ve been there, now i know how it looks over there like you’ve written in your book!!!
