    Don't thin metallics. Use old brushes with metallics. No one told me that stuff until I heard Vince say it on his channel and so many things suddenly made sense.

    I began painting a lot since I picked up some T'au for KillTeam. I've kept a very loose idea for my eventual 40k army that I developed for my KillTeam. It had to be something I would be motivated to finish dozens of models, something I could creatively enjoy and rework over the many units. So I chose a loose ideal instead of a strict pallet. Boba Fett. Paint every unit as if it's Boba Fett. Everything comes out so beautiful and I love it :)

    About the last tip, i think a lot of people, even some of those just getting into it, probably do see their hobby as a form of artistic expression to some extent. Not to state the obvious, but there can be plenty of expression in hobbies of this nature(not even just warhammer) and thats just great too. Whether your painting as an ends to a means or not, either is good, just do what makes you happy

    I generally lay down a coat of either black or gray primer, then white primer over that when zenithal priming, but I confess that the white ink route is something I'd look into, especially since I now I have an airbrush and need to learn how to use the thing...

  • @Bealzabub

    The only time I recommend a tiny brush is painting eyes on minis, but honestly using a fine tipped artist marker like a micron is a million times more reliable than that even.
    I also really second the humidifier tip if you're in a dry climate! Up here in Nevada it can get to 0% humidity sometimes and even the thickest paint will dry almost immediately without it.

      Not always possible, depending on the gun. One trick you can use if the barell is too thin to drill is to paint the tip black and then let the barrel color overlap onto the plack, which gives the illusion of some kind of thickness.

    When I decided to start my Ork hoard a few months ago I planned that they would be on something like a mountain gravel path. So grey texture paint shaded and highlighted with snow added in random patches. At least two models from the same mob have a skull on the base or random bones so when all together the green tide is on a uniform grey and snow base. I used Rhinox Hide to paint the rim of the base as it went well with the gravel and did not be a huge feature of the models.

    Do not use a drybrush to drybrush, I know it is in the name, but makeup brushes are softer and will give you a much less chalky end result.
    Keep a large makeup brush, toothbrush or similar to hand to clean away plastic dust and debris after removing mould lines or drilling barrels. You can get an anti-static brush for this from Tamiya, but most of the time these cheaper alternatives are just as good and far less expensive.
    Save the runners/frames your miniatures come with, chop them up into small pieces, place those pieces into glass paint pots like Tamiya's or Mr Hobby's and then pour in Tamiya plastic cement and leave overnight to create a liquid plastic resin you can use to fill holes or gaps on your plastic miniatures with the exact material they are made from. Apply with modelling tools like those used to work on small clay and green stuff sculpts. Allow to dry and cure, then simply cut or sand away any excess.
    If you are struggling to get your acryllic colours down in the limited window of working time, or want more working time to do things like blends, invest in a liquid acryllic retarder additive from somewhere like AK Interactive. A drop on your palette or wet palette can be picked up by your brush and added to your globs of paint to give you more time to apply or work the paint on the miniature. Avoid using Vallejo's retarder though, as it is a thicker glossy material that will in turn thicken your paint or leave unsightly globs and patterns on your painting surface as it dries.

  • @rustedbeetle
    @rustedbeetle 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI, not all mold dies are two part construction. More complicated shapes can be made with multi-part sliding mold dies. For example, th-cam.com/video/c-J-SJAhVJE/w-d-xo.html shows a part made from a sliding die which allows a part to be made from injected plastic with a more complex shape than just a two surface plane. These dies are expensive, so many manufacturers will not opt for them, but for companies like GW who are making some fantastically molded models, slide dies offer a way to make much more dynamic minis than the basic two part dies can make.
    This means mold lines may not only follow the same plane as the sprue. It depends on how the die was made and how it operates during the molding and injection stages.

    The others though is suuper tryhard. Unless youre not selling painted minis like cocaine on a friday , you wont be needing most of them. However i also understand this is Mniature Maniac , so thats also logical. For example , if im painting one day, ill be using all the paint ive deployed on the pallet. I use very little paint at a time , and for details i even use toothpicks like a fucking pleb. If the mini looks relatively dandy , it's finee :P
