- Jamaican Sehan Thompson fell in love with a certain part of France but he had a rude awakening when he was physically assaulted for the color of his skin. This video we hear his account of the story in his own words. Let it be clear that we in no way support or encourage racism and we are doing this video to increase awareness, to increase vigilance for those who might be traveling or living abroad so as to keep people safe in their endeavors.

I travelled to France once many years ago & experienced racism while waiting to confirm my trip back to London..

I live in the UK. I have lots of family in France. I'm from Mauritius orinally. I've been to France numerous times. I felt the racial tension everytime. Not my kind of place.
I'm from South America and been living in the UK for over 20 years been to France over 5 times and I agree especially in Paris, the racial tension is high. I have black friends there too who are French and says they have to be careful and reserve even when they are right.
I felt in more in visiting London versus visiting Paris as a minority tourist from USA.
@@cjairo Do not disagree with you because the UK was very good at hiding their racism until Brexit and it peaked during the years of the referendum. But Paris takes the win for example I've never experienced or heard of night clubs in London having a limit of how many black people they allowed in or the police beating or ignoring black victims of crime or the lack urgency to provide support both in policing or medical.
@@jnrgrdn well to the contrary. We had witnessed better customer service in Paris. Did not notice any issues but maybe it was the diverse neighborhood our hotel was in. Also the night we went they played Afro beats and we went to tavern jazz club. London just felt dry and the service was underwhelming. Maybe it was more about being an American and visiting, but the train conductor was rude to us and said we smelled like democrats in London. Tour guide on the bus said he wished trump was their prime minister. This was in 2018. The tour bus was full of Mexican Americans and African Americans.

What you don't mention is that the black community in UK is always at war with itself . They are their own worse enemies. Chinese or Indians or Muslims or Jews and recently Polish all keep together. Our people don't. Very stupid. I married an immigrant who is Polish who even faced a lot of hostility from black women and they are immigrants themselves. They always late at work and when she spoke up as she's leaving late to take our kids to school they accused her of being racist even though she's married to a black man. 30 years ago, in university, I started to question the whys of Racism, did my HS in JA. Did BA in Canada then to to France, to become trilingual. I found out that Racism is alive and flourished well in Italy and France then. I realized also, that racism was oringinated in Europe; so what is the surprise now. Turkey was one of the few place that I didn’t encountered any level of disrespect when you follow, their level of decorum/ protocol.

I agree with you completely on this one. I also talk about this; for example, UK citizens can enter Jamaica visa-free, while we Jamaicans need a visa to enter their country. How does that make sense? All because the Jamaican government says they depend on tourism for income. It shouldn't be like that.

I felt very hated in France. And will only go back to see one museum, the Louve, for one day and get out. Our visit was on Tuesday when it was closed, unknowing to us. We had reservations in Cannes for Wednesday, so we had to leave Paris. It was all I really wanted to see
.They only like people from Europe. They HATE Americans regardless of race. My husband had an immigration officer pull a gun on him simply because he didn't understand her and the expectation. Ubers didn't pick us up. I witnessed them treating Africans who sell their goods in the park, less than dogs. The taxi drivers change the price after you arrive and add $20 or more dollars to the fare. The hotel staff is sacrcastic, disrespectful. They act like they dont soeak english, so they dont have to converse with you. They full weell speak english working at the American hotel. The staff will ignore you. The people roll their eyes. Only the Africans would help us with directions, etc... It's not a nice place

My friends and I went to France in 2001 and we faced racism, the taxi driver did not want to pick us up. They pretended as if they did not understand us. The one who finally picked us up, drove us like 2 to 3 times a journey in order for the meter to run so they could get more money, I was there last month. I just stayed a day so I really didn’t have much encounter with anyone. The few people I bought something from were friendly.

France was Jamaica first colonizer who lose it to the English and I think they were the first benefactors of our country. They should have educated their citizens about their past history.These colonists countries should not have been treating former colonies like they are today

You can always move to some African country, you'll be welcomed there, I just came back from Zanzibar, and was treated very well as a Jamaican, but on the other hand, you cannot blame the guy for seeking opportunities abroad, the only thing I didn't like is that he was assigned to help Ukrainian refugees to settle in...that's the irony because apparently he hadn't seen the video of how black people were treated in Ukraine during the first days of the war by refusing them to board trains to Poland, only Ukrainian women and children and dogs were allowed, black people including some Jamaican students had to walk in freezing cold to the border.Anyway i hope he'll get justice in some way, but living in Europe myself I doubt it 😮
