What is engine protection history and why is it important

One of the most important sections of ecm history is engine protection.
What is "engine protection data" and how would I use it to make a decision about a vehicle i was looking to buy. How would i use it when evualating what happened to an engine that had a major failure. Get the facts here.

Is there a way I can find the mileage on a engine that has been pulled out before I buy it I’m looking at L5P engines

I am not sure what an L5P is but if it has an ecm most will keep a record of at least hours. Ask for a trip print out from the engines ecm. You also can make a fault by powering up the ecm and unplugging sensors and usually faults have a total time stamp with them. figure 50 miles equals the equivalent of one hour.
