i think that in here as well u are losing alot of power by placing the turbine on top. most of the potential energy goes to the ground instead of applying force on the blades. if u place the turbine on the bottom of the tube will have a high pressure system that can generate alot more power. but it does look cool as hell.

I've watched a bunch of this guys videos. He knows. And I don't think he speaks English all that well or doesn't care to explain himself but this is all just for fun.
Check out his channel. He builds a bunch of dams everywhere he can. Sometimes it looks like he uses the same area over and over again. These never power anything but themselves and are just him having some fun.
That said... I think he's got a good understanding of how this works and he's pretty good at it. He could make actually practically generate power with these things.

I agree with punicwars2, but I like the visual of the turbine at the top so how about using a smaller turbine at the top, maybe 50% reduction in size, and a large 95% width turbine at the bottom for max power extraction.

Not on that scale
Very possible. You would have to make sure your water supply could generate enough power for your particular needs. A mix of multiple types of natural energy converters (water, air, and sunlight) are ideal, in my opinion.
