They never did a paternity test when Janet was pregnant. They believed that Jack was the father because when they did the ultrasound, the fetus appeared to be too small/young for the baby to be Dusty's so they assumed it was Jack's. But at the time, Janet had been so worried about Liberty's leukemia. Because Janet was so worried, she wasn't eating or sleeping very much. Not taking care of yourself can make the baby smaller than it's supposed to be. Also Janet gave birth to the baby roughly 9 months after the night she and Dusty slept together. They slept together on New Year's Eve and this is September. I was glad that Dusty turned out to be the father after all. Dusty has always gotten himself involved in other people's business and I think it's because Dusty's a lonely man. He has no siblings or relatives and both his parents are dead. He needs a family of his own and now he finally has one!
