This needs to be focused on way more, I have played at a fairly high level for a long time however the shift back I just did and had best round all year. This is very important if you fight a long over swing. Thanks for sharing!
What a coincidence! Just last week, this is what I've noticed in the driving range. I do a 3/4 swing and everything feels so pure at contact. It's actually confusing at first and I know a lot of high-handicap players will have this dilemma. Which is to shorten the swing correctly, because in our mind, we think winding-up as much as we can, leads to more distance. But the reality is it just creates more problems. More power to you guys! I know a lot of Filipinos watch your videos 👍🏽😀
You nailed it, Ryan. The feeling of more distance vs what really creates distance are usually two very different things for most golfers. The "pure" you described should always be the first goal👊
This video together with your “right arm bend, pros v ams” video nail the transition I want. Ive learned that keeping the right arm straighter and in front create a much bigger shoulder turn with less arm movement. And at the top it pushes your weight onto the left foot, starting the downswing. For me it’s the feeling of the right arm reaching resistance in the shoulder structure, first pushing the right shoulder past 90, then reaching a harder resistance that can move your upper body left, and/or down into the left knee. Hope this works for your subscribers.
Always enjoy your videos, so good to learn from evidence-based teaching. I'm in my late 50's and returning to golf after taking time away whilst raising a family. For decades was a mid single cap but better ball striker than that (but worse short game haha). Took this teaching to the range today, working hard on keeping in sync and had my best and longest ball striking experience ever. Tighter at the top and really compressing the ball, so much fun. It is a smashing one off product for discovering how to revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my buddy got cool success with it.
I'm a 67 year old low handicap golfer that's been playing golf for 55 years. I was a 1 to 3 handicap for over 30 years. As I've gotten older and less supple, I've lost some distance and accuracy. Since I've joined your site, I'm now finding that I'm much more consistent, MUCH more longer with every club. I'm striking the ball, the best I've ever have - all due to your excellent and profoundly easy to understand instruction. Thank you so very very much! This shortened back swing, dynamic pressure shift is what has been the primary reason. I can not wait to see how much more I improve as I complete your training videos.
I was watching Porzak Golf and this is also what he preaches. I completely agree. Shortening by reducing runoff makes it feel like im doing a half swing. But i am way more consistent and am still able to hit the distances i get when i hit the occasional great swing with a runoff. definitely the key for me to be more consistent.
Thank you guys for this video. Very informative and food for thought. I've always had a long backswing( see the club at the corner of my left eye) which gets longer with the driver and although I have a swing speed of 115mph I can't control a two way miss, more hook than slice. My practice swing is great, so my friends say, just replicate that swing, however when the ball is in front of me, my instinct is to hit hard. I've tried to slow it down, used the body more, but it still gets long and I feel that given that I have been blessed with natural speed, why should I sacrifice it by hitting it at 105mph which feels like a tickle. I spoke to a Challenge tour pro friend who confirmed what you said that in order to shorten the swing, you have to change direction, or re centre early so that the club naturally wants to drop and shallow. I think, some of us amateurs who try to apply tips and fixes from TH-cam which work one day and then not, are guilty of not bedding it in properly with discipline and commitment (we have to work). I'm going to focus on this actual video as a template for my sequencing and swing pattern. Thank you kindly

Great lesson I suffered from an over swing and this led to the yips with my tee shots, took two years of hard work but now keep a short swing by utilising a Full shoulder turn. Occasionally my yips come back but now I know the cure many thanks for this reminder.
Mike/Shaun, your explanation of how to sync the back swing helped clear things up. The down swing happens much faster, but also needs to be done in sync. In the down swing my arms tend to move ahead of my hip turn, so I hang on to lag and hit the ball thin. Can you discuss the down swing after re-centering. Thanks.
That is so great. I tried this move and hit the ball really far but I dipped my left shoulder over my left foot on the through swing. I like your concept of having the left shoulder center back on the through swing.
This video complements the other videos on the backswing so well and gave me the missing piece by pointing out how the right shoulder moves making me understand the repositioning of the body. I'm sure you said said it before but for dense people like me it was worth hearing again. Getting that right shoulder going towards the target at the end of the backswing helps to re-center. To me, it almost feels automatic instead of "making it happen."
Hi guys greetings from the other side of the pond, to introduce myself I was a golfer that played off of 11.6 and I firmly believe that had I have kept playing I would have been off of single figures. Unfortunately work commitments dictated that I didn't play for 13 years, you wont be surprised to learn that the game and swing was not what it once was. I watched this video last week, I took these lessons to the range on Friday night prior to playing on Saturday. I couldn't believe the results, on the range in a short space of time my 7 iron went from 145 to 150 to 160 to 165 this was the trend throughout the bag. (Exept driver but that's another issue) Since starting playing again I have an handicap of 18.0, on Saturday i took my newly gained skills and confidence to the first tee. 18 holes later i walked of with 11 pars and had shot 80 gross (par 72) returning 10 under par. Needless to say I had a spring in my step and felt I could have gone round again. I would like to thank you guys for the time and effort you go to in order to post these videos on a public forum. I noticed towards the end of hitting balls at the range recently that once I saw a decent shot from me doing a short backswing I thought I'd find a youtube video promoting this method, and I did. Will work at application now: not only on the range, but on the track as well.

Thanks for breaking this down. This fly fishing move is exactly what I’ve been struggling with. For me, the result can a straight shot, a sharp hook or even a push. Very unpredictable.
Great video gents thank you. I have struggled for years with arms leading the turn, the consequence being they get stuck and I then find myself lifting the arms up and over swinging but then having significantly lower club head speed coming into the ball than I feel I am capable of which is immensely frustrating and inconsistent definitely in pressure situations. I will certainly practice the moves described in the video. The annoying thing for me is that on bc the few occasions I swing more akin to the way you teach then the call goes 20% farther for what appears to be half the effort.
This makes perfect sense. However, can you relate this concept to the video where you discuss the hips to start the transition shortly after you start the back swing. There seems to be a contradiction or more likely a nuance I am missing. Thanks.

In my humble opinion,,, Keep the weight on the front foot throughout the swing, with IRONS, Old school preaches weight transfer in the back swing. Fine if you have a long backswing. Not if your downswing is like P3. Please comment....

You guys are great! I have found this out myself. Getting onto the lead side without a big slide was impossible before now it's simple. Plus I had terrible cupping of the left wrist. That caused the extra club movement. I was watching your video on the lead wrist and found that when I used reverse overlap grip it solved the cupping and shortened the back swing. Try It! Again you guys are the best.
Really enjoyed the video. I assume the takeaway video where the backswing starts with some club and arm movement applies here as well. I have tried this kind of backswing ratio before but never really stuck with it. it felt a little less powerful than normal in the backswing in the beginning, but generally more powerful in general in the downswing and with no over fun in the backswing. The trick seems to be sticking with it long enough to get completely used to it. Really like the re-centering part too. Seems like the re-centering would occur later in the backswing, and not too early?
I’ve been working on this, I’m better at shorting up the swing with shorter clubs. For some reason with me the longer the club the more difficult it is to shorten it up. Especially driver and 3 wood
I’m a bit confused regarding the dynamic final shift back, as referred to in the video from the right back to the center. I didn’t notice any reference or the need by you in the downswing sequence to rotate the lead hip back to create space for the club to come through. By this final move back to center some weight will transfer to the left side making it more difficult to clear or rotate the lead hip out of the way. Please help me understand the relationship with the lead hip and the shift back to center. Thanks Dave
With the shortened backswing, will the wrists still need to shallow the club in transition as much? It would seem that the club stops on the way back in a more shallow/laid off than a longer swing.
What do you guys think about the concept of extensor action, where the lead arm is a piece of rope and the trail arm supplies the structure throughout the swing?
Former baseball player turned golfer after college baseball. Started out as a big fade hitter trying to break 100. Now 10 years later I’m a bigger draw hitter breaking 80 during my better rounds, live around low 80s. And my buddy makes me play tips, no mullies. I’ve gotten to the point where i cannot stop hitting big draws. Distance is good, just 20-40 yards left. Then i try to compensate by aiming right, then it goes straight when aiming right. How to find the happy medium?
Sounds like you've just gotten too draw biased... happens to many who used to slice when they picked up the game. Take a look at our fade video and do those drills. They'll start to bring you back more to neutral👍
If you could please show us after the one piece take-away what the next movement “exactly” to the the top with how the wrists cock .. in detail please .. as with the one piece take-away one can still go inside to the top .. so one has to lift the arms and cock the wrists in a certain way to be on plane at the top. At the 6:50 mark when you talk about "re-centering", the video shows your head moving forward (likely in front of the ball). Is that move okay? Or should we try to keep the head back?
The killer move I used to do ( I am working on it and it’s only occasional now ) is releasing the butt at the top and regripping. It was all to get that longer backswing I believe.
I watch a lot of TH-cam from George Gangkas. He often shows his students paused at the top. How do you reconcile what he is doing with the pressure shifting to the front leg before the finish of the backswing?
2:55 the club does NOT stop when the body stops in the backswing. No idea why he thinks it does. Simply watch a slow motion of any pro golfer ever. The shoulders/torso stop 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up, then the arms keep moving and rising to the top. Watch a tiger woods slomo. His torso and shoulders are at 90 degrees very early in the swing, then it’s just the arms that keep going to complete the backswing.
I have been working on shortening my swing on and off for a long time. I hope the dynamic move does the trick. After trying it my good swings are very good, my power on solid strikes very good. That said, my consistency is pretty bad. I am outta synch at impact too much, I am sliding, sometimes and featuring dead pulls. Any tips on syncing up my swing because it is shorter.
I'm 71 years old and I've seen this at the top break down in so many videos it's embarrassing. Left arm breaks down and club across the line with cupped wrist. Ugly ugly ugly! This is the first clear instruction I've seen with regard to that specific problem and the solution. Great timing. I'll be working those drills hard. Headed for Sedona Arizona Friday with my 31 year old son who's a single digit handicap. Hoping to get a stroke a hole and take some of his money.
My driver swing is too long yet my practice swing length is just right ? When it’s time to hit a real shot muscle memory takes over and I can’t seem to shorten it. I only encounter this problem only with Driver and 3 Wood and typically when ball is tee’d up. Any advice is welcome.
@@user-mx1ij3ze9v meaning everything finished the backswing at the same time... instead, there should be a sequence to the downswing that starts well before the club reaches the top.
That’s a fantastic drill. I’m guessing that shit to the left side as you finish that last 1/4 turn of your shoulder will help eliminate early extension
This did not work for me at all. My best drives are when I have a full shoulder and hip turn while maintaining the 7 shape of the club to chest, then I just murder the ball from that position. I stay slow and quiet in the back swing and the club never goes off plane with a natural wrist hinge and the 7 integrity keeps from over swinging - much simpler and very effective

Athletic Motion Golf none of Kutcher’s putting stats put him in the top 50, his scrambling inside 20 yards is not as good as his scrambling outside 20yards, so it must be his full swings that are his scoring clubs. This lesson is promoting a 45* hip turn and 90* shoulder turn, right? All I’m asking is this: if hacks like me are supposed to get to these angles because that’s what pros do, then how does Kutcher succeed when it APPEARS that he doesn’t get to those angles that are promoted in this vid?
@@stevenielsen5217 No, this video isn't promoting a 45/90 turn. I'm not sure what in this video has given you that impression. Matt is successful on tour because he can score. That is THE definition of success in pro golf, not turn numbers.
Soon after reading these golf swing strategies , Jοmtοnο Naha (Go ogle it) and exercising the drills as I read, I went out and also shot a seventy three. Another accomplishment I have made is hitting 13 of 18 greens in regulation. On the other 5 holes, I got close to striking five to ten yards with the green. 73s isn`t a natural thing for me since I have a handicap of 9. When I think about it, I haven’t experienced an outstanding round for years.
@@robmatthews4680 Why would have hurt my feelings? I have no idea what your interaction with amateur golfers is on a regular basis, so I asked. We do as well, and we measure their later movement doing this drill. Too much sway is not a problem.

Also low handicaper, trust me. I am playing 3 hcp but my goal is to improve the quality of my bad shots and that is the only way.

The main difference would be shaft lean. With putter and driver, there's basically no lean but there will be for just about everything else.

I’m a bit confused regarding the dynamic final shift back, as referred to in the video from the right back to the center. I didn’t notice any reference or the need by you in the downswing sequence to rotate the lead hip back to create space for the club to come through. By this final move back to center some weight will transfer to the left side making it more difficult to clear or rotate the lead hip out of the way. Please help me understand the relationship with the lead hip and the shift back to center. Thanks Dave
With the shortened backswing, will the wrists still need to shallow the club in transition as much? It would seem that the club stops on the way back in a more shallow/laid off than a longer swing.
What do you guys think about the concept of extensor action, where the lead arm is a piece of rope and the trail arm supplies the structure throughout the swing?
Former baseball player turned golfer after college baseball. Started out as a big fade hitter trying to break 100. Now 10 years later I’m a bigger draw hitter breaking 80 during my better rounds, live around low 80s. And my buddy makes me play tips, no mullies. I’ve gotten to the point where i cannot stop hitting big draws. Distance is good, just 20-40 yards left. Then i try to compensate by aiming right, then it goes straight when aiming right. How to find the happy medium?
Sounds like you've just gotten too draw biased... happens to many who used to slice when they picked up the game. Take a look at our fade video and do those drills. They'll start to bring you back more to neutral👍

If you could please show us after the one piece take-away what the next movement “exactly” to the the top with how the wrists cock .. in detail please .. as with the one piece take-away one can still go inside to the top .. so one has to lift the arms and cock the wrists in a certain way to be on plane at the top. At the 6:50 mark when you talk about "re-centering", the video shows your head moving forward (likely in front of the ball). Is that move okay? Or should we try to keep the head back?

The killer move I used to do ( I am working on it and it’s only occasional now ) is releasing the butt at the top and regripping. It was all to get that longer backswing I believe.

I watch a lot of TH-cam from George Gangkas. He often shows his students paused at the top. How do you reconcile what he is doing with the pressure shifting to the front leg before the finish of the backswing?

That's an excellent Tip ..that's my natural swing but didn't know so I tried to length it my handicap went up to 12 ....
2:55 the club does NOT stop when the body stops in the backswing. No idea why he thinks it does. Simply watch a slow motion of any pro golfer ever. The shoulders/torso stop 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up, then the arms keep moving and rising to the top. Watch a tiger woods slomo. His torso and shoulders are at 90 degrees very early in the swing, then it’s just the arms that keep going to complete the backswing.

I have been working on shortening my swing on and off for a long time. I hope the dynamic move does the trick. After trying it my good swings are very good, my power on solid strikes very good. That said, my consistency is pretty bad. I am outta synch at impact too much, I am sliding, sometimes and featuring dead pulls. Any tips on syncing up my swing because it is shorter.
Yep, you gotta start re-synching painfully slow to get the timing of the other movements onboard with where the club is now.
I'm 71 years old and I've seen this at the top break down in so many videos it's embarrassing. Left arm breaks down and club across the line with cupped wrist. Ugly ugly ugly! This is the first clear instruction I've seen with regard to that specific problem and the solution. Great timing. I'll be working those drills hard. Headed for Sedona Arizona Friday with my 31 year old son who's a single digit handicap. Hoping to get a stroke a hole and take some of his money.

This is exactly what I'm working on now! Played baseball and softball and always had this problem in the swing. YT even knows my golf reality...scary.
My driver swing is too long yet my practice swing length is just right ?
When it’s time to hit a real shot muscle memory takes over and I can’t seem to shorten it.
I only encounter this problem only with Driver and 3 Wood and typically when ball is tee’d up.
Any advice is welcome.

Yep, do the drills in this video😊 You're used to going to the end of range of motion because nothing is else is starting that downswing.

Golfers who don’t set the club well with their wrists will do it with their elbow. Lots of run off when that happens.

This did not work for me at all. My best drives are when I have a full shoulder and hip turn while maintaining the 7 shape of the club to chest, then I just murder the ball from that position. I stay slow and quiet in the back swing and the club never goes off plane with a natural wrist hinge and the 7 integrity keeps from over swinging - much simpler and very effective
Can you explain why Kutcher looks like his hip doesn’t go 45* and his shoulders don’t look like they go 90*, yet he hangs with he pros that do.

Athletic Motion Golf none of Kutcher’s putting stats put him in the top 50, his scrambling inside 20 yards is not as good as his scrambling outside 20yards, so it must be his full swings that are his scoring clubs. This lesson is promoting a 45* hip turn and 90* shoulder turn, right? All I’m asking is this: if hacks like me are supposed to get to these angles because that’s what pros do, then how does Kutcher succeed when it APPEARS that he doesn’t get to those angles that are promoted in this vid?
@@stevenielsen5217 No, this video isn't promoting a 45/90 turn. I'm not sure what in this video has given you that impression. Matt is successful on tour because he can score. That is THE definition of success in pro golf, not turn numbers.

Soon after reading these golf swing strategies , Jοmtοnο Naha (Go ogle it) and exercising the drills as I read, I went out and also shot a seventy three. Another accomplishment I have made is hitting 13 of 18 greens in regulation. On the other 5 holes, I got close to striking five to ten yards with the green. 73s isn`t a natural thing for me since I have a handicap of 9. When I think about it, I haven’t experienced an outstanding round for years.
Your second drill is going to encourage way too much sway for the amateur golfer.
Do you work with a lot of amateurs on a daily basis?

@@robmatthews4680 Why would have hurt my feelings? I have no idea what your interaction with amateur golfers is on a regular basis, so I asked. We do as well, and we measure their later movement doing this drill. Too much sway is not a problem.
