regardless of who did it better, im just happy and glad to see that f(x)’s songs are still being covered. f(x)’s concepts and songs are very hard to do a cover.
I think I watched this 3-4 times just to make sure I had seen what I saw. As much as I think the girls did well with the cover, you really can’t outdo the original (in my eyes). To me, the cover didn’t really give me as big of an impact as the original as it’s giving me very elegant and girly vibes when that isn’t what I picture with this song. I tend to associate Rum Pum Pum Pum with power/sharp moves, not so much elegance/softness. Maybe it’s my bias toward f(x) that’s making me think this way but I feel f(x) just gives me (and the song) something that the cover didn’t. The girls did well though despite the things that I didn’t feel/see. :)
Agreed! The girls did well with the cover, but as one of the fans who kept on repeating f(x)'s songs in their playist, the cover was really soft. It felt like something's missing in a sense?? Or maybe a bit awkward?? I don't really know how to describe the feeling.
Totally agree, the song was suppose to be performed with sharp choreo, and show maturity, and the 2021 version make it looks cute lol (except for Yeji that fit the concept very well)
no offense but f(x)'s performance is really entertaining, their expressions seem so lively, they might not have the sharpest dance moves but their stage seems so genuine, so clean and refreshing each time you watch it. the performance of other girls on other hand looks perfect, too perfect that it gets boring, as if it's fabricated, unnatural, too good. no life in their movements. thats only my opinion though
I honestly prefer the original. None of them except Yeji managed to capture the feel of the song. The girls were trying to sound so soft while the original's vocals are a lot sharper and stronger. I get that the new gen are trying to follow today's meta but if you're going to recreate something, don't make it lose it's entire feel. Rum pum pum pum is a strong-vocalled song. If they wanted the girls to follow today's meta for a recreation, they should've done Four Walls by f(x), it's has softer vocals and could easily fit all the girls as long as they know how to sing it sharply
F(X) was just really fucking cool like they give off an effortless vibe without needing to try, its hard to even compare these two performances cuz they may be doing the same choreo but it's completely different.
2021 cover made it more elegant and girly but f(x) is more cool and relaxed; f(x) emphasizes the dynamic aspects of the song while the cover girls emphasize the smooth/sultry aspects more, which i get... but it also feels like they're focusing way to much on looking pretty while performing
I miss f(x) so much, they have the best discography before. Im glad 4th gen idols got to cover this iconic song again. And also i like how holy i-trinity (ITZY, IZONE, IDLE) performed again in once stage. They also performed last year altogether but they didnt in 2019 because of iz controversy. I hope they can consider performing together on ever year end stages annually.
Of course the original will be the best second is the cover. Especially Yeji she did very well They did the song very cute where in fact it's not 😂 and the other girls where expressionless made it a little bit cringe to watch. Yeji's gaze made it more realistic
I cant believe RPP is turning 9 years old this year… i was at KCON in 2013 and fx performed this song live for the first time after the MV dropped! Definitely hits me in the feels, i think their Pink Tape album was inarguably their best OT5 album. It’s literally the definition of aesthetics.
feels like new gen worries too much about looking pretty rather than putting on a performance. The energy seems so lacking. All the unnecessary winking is kinda off putting.
ITZY(and (G)I-DLE before the Soojin scandal)actually are great performers in their own right, but I get what you mean. Good thing that for every "so-so" 5 or 10 groups we get one that seems promising.
I just commented the same. Their expressions are so bland, not sassy or expressive, they’re just looking very pretty. Yeji I must exclude in this, I thought she was great, like F(x) on the right
@Jisoo Kim it’s not the minority. Almost no group sings live these days, even when they look like they are, it’s always pre recorded, heavily back tracked and autotuned.
It’s a shame this group didn’t find the success they should have gained. They had almost everything. They had really good songs, each member had their unique flair and they were at the dawn of unique group aesthetics. If the group found their fame who knows how fast the Kpop wave would have reached international stage.
They were actually very successful in their era. They used to be only 2nd in physical sales right after the nation girlgroup, snsd. Their digital sales were also very good, they achieved so many allkills, it's just SM really likes to sabotage them by always give them long hiatuses, very slow at restocking album, VERY LATE at giving them first concert, fandom name, haven't give them official lightstick, very rarely let them promote on variety shows, etc
Their outfits are gorgeous!!! I love seeing 3 members from Izone and Yeji is my fave Itzy member so I love this. And I stan F(X) during my highschool days so I am soooo hype about thisss!!! Love love love!!!
I’m glad to see lots of people noting how unique and special f(x) is. It’s not something you can TRY to be. The 4th gen girls did a good job but f(x) is unmatched, not because they are the original but they are f(x).
I'ts interesting to me how this video not only shows how the difference between idol performances now and then, but also highlights how much idols have visually changed. The 2021 girls are so much more perfect/ doll-like looking whereas F(x) look more mature and like people you could meet irl.
f(x) has this edginess that makes them eyecatching and different, even amongst recent groups. Their way of dancing is not conventionally girl groups, yet it's still girl group dance. It's hard to recreate as they always present things differently from standard girl group, with certain flair in their every move. This might be my bias talking, but as expected I like the original better. I'm thankful for the cover and effort though. f(x) is just the very definition of edgy.
The choreographies back then, although iconic, wasn’t so much emphasised but more to the idols stage presence. Nowadays, the choreos are a lot harder since they have to stand out so much more. I noticed this too when Kep1er was doing the SNSD Genie key point dance. I was like, I was used to them doing the most that a “simpler” choreo like that didn’t seem enough. If that make sense?
These comments are honestly annoying. You guys are aware this is a tribute, right? They’re not trying to be f(x). While I think no one can beat the orginal, the cover still isn’t bad. But because you don’t like it, or they didn’t do everything perfectly doesn’t mean it’s bad. This is a new generation of idols doing a song that wasn’t written for them. What do you really expect? There’s no need to compare and be toxic. Just say the original was unbeatable and move on.
The cover looks too cute and delicate when it's supposed to be cool, energetic with sharpie moves. I think Yeji and Yujin (if I'm not wrong) bring a little of the vibe of f(x). And I hope the fans of Wonyoung don't hate me for this, but wth with her overreacting faces and kind of seductive voice for a song like this 😶
I wonder what changed in between these years, you can see the lighting in newer kpop stages Vs old ones make them look so different. Now they focus on making them look pale and bright, in years before that wasn't the priority.
lol majority of 4th gen groups are like that, they are too pre-occupied with their looks that they don't actually pay much attention to their performance
Why is no one talking about Minju and the EFFORT she put on doing Sulli's lines just like her. It's obvious that she studied her expression and I'm so grateful for that. I literally cried and got so emotional PD: a cover is always a cover, stop comparing you're making MeUs look ungrateful and stupid
Man, f(x)'s strange fashion, strange but alluring concept, naturally quirky without seeming like a 'im not like other girls' theme more like 'im doing my own thing and rocking it'. The girls on the left did well, but the vibes just aren't right for the song. f(x) was really smn else
I like how F(x) look cool and powerful and the cover group look soft and and gentle. I love the different feelings. Trying to be “exactly” like the Original group may sometimes bring so much pressure and ends up ruining the performances. Like comparing ain’t it. Each group brings their own vibes. If they tried to do the same thing same ppl would complain how they brought nothing new.
I really like the previous gens of K-pop. Their Choreography are not so hard but still captivating. New Gens focuses more on hard and complicated choreos. Some are still charismatic like Itzy. But others are so boring like no facial expressions, complicated choreos and bad ass concept but still showing cutesy cutesy face. Concept is like this and that but this showing cutesy cutesy face. Hahaha. Too afraid to look crazy or weird. Same facial expressions every song cutesy cutesy.
The fact that whenever I'd see that red green flannels all I could ever remember is this song. It really became a trademark in my mind and I've been looking for any flannel of the same color ever since because of the song too😍💖 I don't really know why but I just somehow loved it when I saw Krystal and sulli in their fits the first time I saw their live performance and mv
you can really see here SM's preference in looks. Not always the korean standard (except visuals) but more like a face easily recognizable and a face that'll get better over time like wine
The thing is that F(x) knew they are already pretty and spits aesthetically over the top stage presence. They only need to perform whole heartedly. Not saying that the cover is not great. They are already good looking. They didn't need to keep themselves pretty while performing.
As a MeU myself, only Yeji and Miyeon got almost the actual vibe of the song imo. Others were good but they outmood the song and cared nothing but their visual on stage literally gave zero energy to the choreo, esp Wonyoung.

The thing about f(x) - considering production companies in the music industry do pre-production and planning for albums, singles and releases in general years in advance, I wasn't suprised when I heard some of Red Velvet's post-2016 B sides (and even A sides in some cases - "Look" for example) sounding EXACTLY like f(x) songs, but it DID make me HELLA sad and mad @ sm for wasting the potential of one group and neglecting them over another when they both could've been such powerhouses and even collabed. I'm glad to see the f(x) legacy live on though and I'm happy that ***possibly*** their sound and style lives on through some of the Red Velvet songs. Additionally, to see that rum pum pum pum still sounds current in 2021 solidifies my anger issues on the matter even more lmao. Anyways long live f(x). Long live Red Velvet. ♡
F(x) is unbeatable. People can do covers but will never ever come close to the original. I truly feel that in the cover version, the girls seem like they are more interested in looking pretty more than anything else. Whereas The f(x) members are so unique, you can see their individuality shine through every time they perform!
To those who don't know what to feel about the cover.. Of course you can't expect the cover to be as good as the original because those who covered it practiced it only for a short time unlike those who did it originally that probably practiced for a month.. Anyways, all girls did great 💯
💯 The cover group of course did great, but yeah it's undeniable the original by f(x) was a whole comeback so of course they spent much longer perfecting their performance.
The cover was horrible.. Like if you can't do a cover properly don't do it, their voices did not suit the song at all and they put little to no effort in their dancing it was all kind of just winking at the camera and making weird hand movements

Yeji's the only one who justified the energy f(x) gave
I hope they can consider performing together on ever year end stages annually.
realized i stared at f(x) the whole time
Of course the original will be the best second is the cover. Especially Yeji she did very well
They did the song very cute where in fact it's not 😂 and the other girls where expressionless made it a little bit cringe to watch.
Pink tape was one of the best album in kpop history!!!
So lucky you saw them!
so lucky 😭
feels like new gen worries too much about looking pretty rather than putting on a performance. The energy seems so lacking. All the unnecessary winking is kinda off putting.
I realize this too ..
Finally someone said it 😭
ITZY(and (G)I-DLE before the Soojin scandal)actually are great performers in their own right, but I get what you mean.
What I've learned. SM harmonies are just on a different level. Everytime.
These days idol just want to look pretty and handsome on stage. The dedication their seniors had paved their way rn
It’s a shame this group didn’t find the success they should have gained. They had almost everything. They had really good songs, each member had their unique flair and they were at the dawn of unique group aesthetics. If the group found their fame who knows how fast the Kpop wave would have reached international stage.
They were incredibly successful. Every mini album, full album, and single they released hit #1 or #2 on the charts. *Every one.*
Yup they were beyond their time.
@@csy897 they were right on time. Sm just didn’t treat them right.
But they so famous in sk
Their outfits are gorgeous!!! I love seeing 3 members from Izone and Yeji is my fave Itzy member so I love this. And I stan F(X) during my highschool days so I am soooo hype about thisss!!! Love love love!!!
F(x) the most unique group in Kpop
its nct
them and orange caramel for me.
I MISS F(X)! their unique concept are the best!
Amber stands out so much. No one could come close to her energy right here
I’m glad to see lots of people noting how unique and special f(x) is. It’s not something you can TRY to be. The 4th gen girls did a good job but f(x) is unmatched, not because they are the original but they are f(x).
Yeji and Miyeon are best!!
Yeji carried this performance for me
I'ts interesting to me how this video not only shows how the difference between idol performances now and then, but also highlights how much idols have visually changed. The 2021 girls are so much more perfect/ doll-like looking whereas F(x) look more mature and like people you could meet irl.
Yeah, having Amber's rap done by a conventionally pretty girl with long hair just doesn't quite fit.
f(x) has this edginess that makes them eyecatching and different, even amongst recent groups. Their way of dancing is not conventionally girl groups, yet it's still girl group dance. It's hard to recreate as they always present things differently from standard girl group, with certain flair in their every move. This might be my bias talking, but as expected I like the original better. I'm thankful for the cover and effort though. f(x) is just the very definition of edgy.
im so over 4th gen idols sacrificing the quality of performance for looks. F(x) truly are queens
No cover will ever replace f(x) in my heart. I miss that group everyday. ♥️
Wow YEJI copió cada detalle de la coreo y gestos de Krystal... La felicito!! Hermoso
Yeji- Krystal
Miyeon- Luna
Minju- Sulli ❤️
Yujin- Amber
WY- Victoria
These comments are honestly annoying. You guys are aware this is a tribute, right? They’re not trying to be f(x). While I think no one can beat the orginal, the cover still isn’t bad. But because you don’t like it, or they didn’t do everything perfectly doesn’t mean it’s bad. This is a new generation of idols doing a song that wasn’t written for them. What do you really expect? There’s no need to compare and be toxic. Just say the original was unbeatable and move on.
nowadays kpop relies on the beauty of people now their voices, I really miss old kpop
All we need is for SM to bring back the Og sound and everyone will follow
你会发现以前她们少了对镜头各种挤眉弄眼但却也魅力无穷♡
F(x) was much more sharper with the choreography. Honestly, they embody this song. The cover lacks energy.
The cover is focused on looks not Choreography 🤣🤣
Our lovely f(x)
the cover be like.... go girls give us nothing
Especially the ones doing luna and victoria. Which unfortunately were the dancers of f(x)
@@dafihale7139 Miyeon who did Luna was never a strong dancer at all. Even during her performance with her group she is not the best with choreography.
@@dafihale7139 krystal Too
The cover looks too cute and delicate when it's supposed to be cool, energetic with sharpie moves.
Is it me or the cover group seems only care the way they look instead of sing & dance properly.....
Obviously f(x) just killing it ...
Yes it is only you:)
They clearly did a great job and They singed and Danced well so yeass
No your right they all went for cutesy rather than Edgy that F(x) was.
nah i completely agree with you. they were trying too hard with the pretty and rather less of the charisma and the performance
lol majority of 4th gen groups are like that, they are too pre-occupied with their looks that they don't actually pay much attention to their performance
Why is no one talking about Minju and the EFFORT she put on doing Sulli's lines just like her. It's obvious that she studied her expression and I'm so grateful for that. I literally cried and got so emotional
PD: a cover is always a cover, stop comparing you're making MeUs look ungrateful and stupid
Sulli is my ultimate and i approve this comment
Man, f(x)'s strange fashion, strange but alluring concept, naturally quirky without seeming like a 'im not like other girls' theme more like 'im doing my own thing and rocking it'. The girls on the left did well, but the vibes just aren't right for the song. f(x) was really smn else
other than yeji no one was giving the right energy. f(x) really were that group
I’m atleast glad to see people covering their songs. They’re so underrated
Same facial expressions every song cutesy cutesy.
the energy from f(x) is insane
Nobody can do fx like fx. But im glad their legacy lives through ages
f(x) really has that unique vibe to them .. visual-wise (the variety of members' personalities and vibes), concept-wise, discography-wise
The new one feels more focused on being pretty and on posing. The original seems genuinely carefree and fun
크리스탈은 케이팝 레전드임
The fact that whenever I'd see that red green flannels all I could ever remember is this song. It really became a trademark in my mind and I've been looking for any flannel of the same color ever since because of the song too😍💖 I don't really know why but I just somehow loved it when I saw Krystal and sulli in their fits the first time I saw their live performance and mv
you can really see here SM's preference in looks. Not always the korean standard (except visuals) but more like a face easily recognizable and a face that'll get better over time like wine
Minju --> Sulli
Wonyoung --> Victoria
Yujin--> Amber
Yeiji --> Krystal
Miyeon --> Luna
Don't know if it's my problem but whenever I look at the video, my eyes just automatically glued to the right side of the screen
Same like Brown Eyed Girl, F(X) have such distinct musicality and vocals, which make them unique
F(X) Will always be legendau
The thing is that F(x) knew they are already pretty and spits aesthetically over the top stage presence. They only need to perform whole heartedly.
Not saying that the cover is not great. They are already good looking. They didn't need to keep themselves pretty while performing.
I'm glad that girls from the 4th gem took the time to rehearsal and pull off this cover, they used to have such an original concept
As a MeU myself, only Yeji and Miyeon got almost the actual vibe of the song imo. Others were good but they outmood the song and cared nothing but their visual on stage literally gave zero energy to the choreo, esp Wonyoung.
f(x) was my first ever group back in 2012 ... i really miss them ... I'm still mad what netizens did to Sulli, RIP my beutiful angel ... To The Beautiful You was my first ever K-Drama because of her ...
Yeji, Yujin and Miyeon did good but a Yeji definitely ate the cover. Everyone else made little mistakes it seems.
Miyeon messed up the choreography a bit. The others did not from my observation.
And noticed something bout the camera work here.
In the past, the camera work was just enough, in today kpop, oh my...
Quick cut, quick Transition, edgy angles...
Make me confused..
Woo young and minju expressions doesn’t match with the song’s energy
Who ever styled them deserved a raise
I think shows 4th Gen's weakness. Prioritising visuals and style over performance they don't even sing anymore
Why are the movements so soft and why are they doing aegyo ㅠㅠ the charm of the song is heavily reliant on the song’s mystique and the sharp choreography, tbh the stage could’ve been a lot better ㅠㅠ
They’re not doing aegyo….
yes the girls slayed but i dont think no one can really do it like fx, IM so proud the girls did their assignment very well
F(x) will always be a precious part of SM
This legendary hit song literally makes my eyes teary. 😭 I miss them so much as f(X) but I will always support their individual activities. I miss Sulli a lot 😭
Just Yeji doing justice to this
Yeji!!!
Hm. Not sure how I felt about the cover. 😕
와.... 과거도 미래도.......
지금 오늘봐도 미쳤다 진짜 이건.....
F(x) is unbeatable. People can do covers but will never ever come close to the original. I truly feel that in the cover version, the girls seem like they are more interested in looking pretty more than anything else. Whereas The f(x) members are so unique, you can see their individuality shine through every time they perform!
A cover meant to reminisce and respect their senior… it’s not a replacement or a competition ❤️
Yeji♥🔥️🔥️🔥
왜 2세대가 레전든지 말해주는 영상
We’re the new gen singing live..?? Cause they lacked some much needed feeling and heart hitting in the moves 😂.
To those who don't know what to feel about the cover.. Of course you can't expect the cover to be as good as the original because those who covered it practiced it only for a short time unlike those who did it originally that probably practiced for a month.. Anyways, all girls did great 💯
Facts
💯 The cover group of course did great, but yeah it's undeniable the original by f(x) was a whole comeback so of course they spent much longer perfecting their performance.
But for me, key in this song too low for yeji & miyeon. Maybe for make same with the others. Make sense..
I'm glad they did it because it may attract new kpopers to fx music
The cover was horrible.. Like if you can't do a cover properly don't do it, their voices did not suit the song at all and they put little to no effort in their dancing it was all kind of just winking at the camera and making weird hand movements
f(x) had a solid discography and fan base, watching sm trying to erase such a uniquely talented group of kpop hurts
how is sm trying to erase f(x), im not an sm stan but ive noticed f(x) is underrated compared to other sm gg's. im genuinely curious.
@@ninetine3052 SM has always done the bare minimum with f(x). No proper promotions for them.Solo concert and fandom name after 7 years.Do you know how SM is known for their experimental music? Well, f(x) were the ones who started it, and they weren't acknowledged at all. It's disrespectful to them. F(x) were abandoned by them.
I couldn't stop watching the right stage
Really miss F(x)
f(x) were singing live, you can still hear it a bit here bec of overlapping audio but try to watch the original performance. Too bad the cover doesn't include vocals since f(x) is an amazing group to embody.
No hate but what happend to Wonyoung eye? I mean I noticed she did the wink thingy whenever the camera pan at her. Hope she will improve with her facial expression in the future.
I know I’m gonna get hate but...
New girl groups don’t have facial expressions. They’re prettier, but more bland, like perfect little dolls. Compare the expressions on the right and on the left, you’ll see what I mean. The only exception was Yeji, she had the same liveliness/sassiness as F(x).
This coming from someone that didn’t stan F(x) btw
You’re joking right? Charisma never went away in kpop.
@@Kae_la clearly it did. I find this to watching the SM collab girl group stages, Boa is by far the best and most expressive. Karina and winter are like perfect dolls. It’s different vibes
@@PiggiesInTheRain you’re using the example of two idols from a group known for their lack of live performance value. Off the hand I can make 20 idols that are beyond engaging in their abilities. Mia, soyeon, yeji, soojin, Ruyjin, onda, all of dreamcatcher. The list is long.
@@Kae_la ah sure. But I picked some of the most famous/prominent 4th gen groups/people. Didn’t say they’re ALL like this. Just a trend VS older idols
@@PiggiesInTheRain you said “new girls groups”. Gidle, and everglow are some of the biggest for this generation. Itzy tops all 4th Gen gg, and even their member with the least stage presence (lia) has 10x that of any Aespa member. You just applied their lack of stage preformance to all of 4th Gen ggs. When 90% of them are at the same level, in their own respective ways for their generation, as their predecessors.
They should give yeji that iconic big barret tho
