It might not be for everyone but nothing gets me more excited to write in my fancy notebook than a fancy fountain pen.

Multiple Notebooks! I have a cheap composition notebook that I use to outline what I want to journal about. I put the topic/prompt at the top of the page and then make a rough outline or just bullet points as a guide. Then, when I am free from distractions, and have access to a comfortable writing place, I switch to a "fancy" journal (and a great fountain pen with a fun color of ink in it) to write my personal essay. I find that if my journal entries are better planned or re-written after creating some form of rough draft to organize my thoughts, I produce a better, more complete and reflective journal entry. The cheap notebook will often get tossed after it is full, unless it contains topics I haven't covered yet, and then I flip through it for ideas when I have the right environment to focus on writing, which doesn't happen every day.

I have been thinking about a common place journal. Some of things you mentioned are some ideas to put in a common place journal. Have you ever thought about doing that also?

Sure have, but so far I’ve been able to get everything into my planner/journal/notebook. Would like to do a separate one for wisdom collections though!

I keep a personal journal…stuff I do or feel, places I visit, a brain dump place, ect. And I’ve just started a commonplace book…poems, quotes, book narratives, ect. The commonplace is all information with occasional opinion of my own in the margin. I wonder should I date my commonplace too? I do date my personal journal. But I didn’t date the commonplace yet, as it is information that almost anybody can find if they look for it.
