Chris, this sounds really nice! I have two of these Proto S-1s that'll get DCC and sound eventually. Is this an old Life-Like Proto 2000 or a newer Walthers version?
@@thecnwmondovilinepaulscota7304 Definitely - the Scale Sound Speakers are specifically designed for specific locos and fit perfectly. However, if I were to do this install again (and didn't have a v5 micro on-hand), I'd ***DEFINITELY*** use SSS' new shorter speaker for this loco along with the new ESU drop-in board with built-in capacitors (#58921). If you still need to purchase components to convert your P2k S-1s to sound, be sure to consider the shorter speaker (LLPR-S13S-RC1) and the ESU 58921 board. And if you do, let me know how easy it is!
@@TheValleyLocal Well, first on the list are a pair of Proto 2000 SW600s, which were thee exact locos (1280 & 1281) that ran on the Mondovi Line. Then a pair of S1s, a single S2, an SW1200, and even an RS-1 just because I love ALCOs.
@@TheValleyLocal I already bought one of the SSS short speakers to replace the iPhone speaker I originally used, but this is the first I've heard about the ESU 58921. I used an ESU micro without a keep alive. I'll have to take a look at the new decoder.
Sounds like an Alco :)
Sounds great!

Thanks! This is the older Proto 2000 model. Pretty straightforward install after you isolate the motor.
@@TheValleyLocal All mine are old-school Proto as well. Good to know they can get sound.
