I guess the opening portion in the trailer is the climax where he (Ranbir Kapoor) realizes that his obsession to get his father's validation costed him a lot like it affected his relation with his wife so when everyone celebrates their victory of defeating bobby deol and Anil kapoor is now considering his (Ranbir's) decisions and giving him the value he wanted, he then questions Anil kapoor's validation as a father by reminiscing his past memories with his father by showing him how bad father he was. PS: These are just my speculations after I watched the trailer

It's just a feeling after I watched the first scene in the trailer, Anil Kapoor might be going through Alzheimer's and he just wants him to recollect how Anil used to be with him and he wants that attitude of Anil Kapoor back and he's trying to bring out from him to get back his old dad, his attitude, his love and everything.
After the Khans and may be after that Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan with grace marks I didn't feel any actors from bollywood to be a superstar. Don't misunderstand. I have seen great actors from bollywood like Vicky Kaushal after that, but I am not sure those actors can be good crowd pullers. But here he comes Ranbir Kapoor the next big thing. Genuinely good intense actor with good looks and everything what it takes to be a superstar.
Who else felt that the initial part of the trailer is highly inspired by the trailer of Joaquin Phoenix's "#Joker" !? The background music, the atmosphere, even the music beats. I won't say copied but definitely highly inspired!

He is chained in a cage with life imprisonment and calling his Papa with all of his obsession.
