The style is Tommys style, there is no one like him! He has never been trained ever! It just comes naturally to him! One of my favorite singers, if not my favorite of all time ❤
Many of us Swedes are very fond of both this "unschooled" and Jussi Björling's "schooled" version! Different styles, different moods, but equally enjoyable
To think that Tommy was 70 when he sang this! It's incredible! He's been world class all his career! One of the best singers of his generation and one of the best male swedish singers ever!
"Stad i ljus" is one of the classics by Körberg. We always end a party with karaoke to that song 🙈

He hasn't had any voice training he is self taught and he sing in what ever genre he wants. I remember him singing with Celine Dion and he pulled a prank on her 😂. They were singing beauty and the beast and in rehearsal Tommy didn't sing his powerful self so in their preforming the song he gave his all and Celine looked in disbelief on him so he took out a rose and gave her.
Love him and Celine as well...isn't it "Beauty and the Beast" where he "prankes" her...think she's invited to Sweden close to the Disney versions release...then he's invited to sing alongside her...since he was the (singing) voice in the Swedish version!?

Anthem was written for specifically Körberg.
So many singers that have lost their ability to sing good when they reach his age but he is still going strong.
Found your channel today. I love watching your reaction to our swedish singers. Tommy is a national treasure. He is the swedish voice for the Beast in Beauty and the Beast (there is an amazing video of him impressing Celine Dion -if what I heard is true he held back during rehearsals and then just gave his all during their live performance) . You need to hear him sing Anthem from Chess. And Stad i Ljus which orginally was not a Christmas song but has become a swedish Christmas tradition.
I love Tommy so much and has had the pleasure to see him live once when a friend of mine performed with him.

I love how Tommy always sounds like every word and note he sings come straight from his heart. It is such a warm, natural sound for lack of a better word, and therefore moves me a lot more that than many other singers.

Tommy is a very good singer and I saw someone recommend the Anthem from Chess, Tommy was the original singer to that. His O helga natt is really good, but Pavarotti once said that Jussi Björling was his idol. There is simply no way one can compare.
Tommy is over 70 years old(I think 73yo), pretty good for that age!
He automaticly have his soft calming voice and can easily hit the high tones with a natural power. And he sings the song as it should be .Not an americanised version🙂 He have sunng a lot of great songs..He was a lead singer in the Swedish original musical CHESS And is a well known soloartist in our country..He can sing the phonebook and get it to be a beautiful song..
I have the biggest respect for Björn Skifs. Normally associated with schlagers but he is a enormous skilled singer. I still remember him from a SVT talk show doing Beatles cover in jazz beat. Also, his song on the princess wedding is deep in my mind.
Maybe some one can point me in the correct directions for those songs.

He was a drummer iirc that got fed up with the singers in His bands fucking about.
Tommy was on a Swedish radio talk show where they took one quick question (there were many who wanted to ask so) from listeners. I got in so I asked if he ever had taken any singing lessons and nope. He's totally self learned! He's my favourite Swedish singer of all time.

Hi there!
I noticed you struggling a little with the pronunciation of Tommy's last name. It's really simple: Just pronounce the first part "Kör-" as "sher" in sherbert, and the rest is easy: "berg" like in Bergman, Ingrid or Ingmar, take your pick! (Berg in Swedish is actually pronounced differently than in English, but that's okay.)
So, Körberg almost becomes sherbert, only the last consonant is different: g instead of t.

Oh, and Tommy's performance of "Stad i ljus" (City in Light) is worth listening to, as well. Preferably an earlier recording, when he was a bit younger. I hope you can find the lyrics to that song. They are exceptionally good, in my opinion.

Körberg had a relationship with Anki Lidén in the seventies, when they had a son, Anton Körberg.
Much later, 1988, Anki Lidén married Klas Bergling, and their son Tim (Avicii) was born in September 1989.
Tommy Körberg's son and Avicii was halfbrothers, sharing mother.
Avicii had his own father, his parents are still married.
